I was thinking about writing this for quite some time, but never got to do it, and thought that it was too late. But now that the show's postponed, I guess I have the time.
Let's all agree that Supernatural did a 180 this season. There were quite a few big changes. It was still good though, but different. I understand that maybe they wanted to change the formula a bit after Sam went to hell, but there are some things I hope they wouldn't have messed with. So, here's a few things I wanna see back in this half of the season:
1) RockN'Roll ain't noise pollution- I don't know about you, but was looking forward to a bad-ass The Road So Far clip with some AC\DC in the season premiere. Not only was there no such clip (Which Could be forgiven thanks to the nice new life montage), but there was no rock what so ever in the entire episode (That and other things made the premiere my least favorite episode in the season, with "All Dogs Go to Heaven" close behind).
Rock and Supernatural go hand-in-hand. I mean, who didn't have that "HELL YEAH" feeling in the end of episode 2, when Dean unveiled the Impala to the sound of Smoke On The Water?
I hope part 2 of the season kicks off with a good ol' recap clip.
2) Touchy-Feely crap- As much as I love Supernatural for the action and humor, I also love the little bonding talk the brothers have at the end of each episode. Recently, thanks to Sam's lack of soul, we didn't get to see that. Every talk was like "We'll help you find it", "Do you even want it back?", "I don't want it back" etc. I think a symbolic moment of that change was when he refused the beer in the end of episode 9.
Now that his soul IS back, I hope to see some brotherly love. Obviously Dean will be suspicious at first, 'Cause Death told him the soul thing isn't 100% stable, but it'll be nice to see them talking like brothers again.
3) Angels in America- I love the angels. All of them. I think they're all awesome, even the bad ones (Zacharia is my favorite after Cas). I loved to see Raphael again, and Balthazar. What I didn't like was the Cas treatment. He had major time screen in a few episodes, but in most of the rest he just popped up for a few minutes.
I get it- The apocalypse is over, war in heaven, ok, so his role isn't that big now. But it's frustrating to see a Misha Collins credit at the start and be happy that Cas is in, only for him to give Dean some weird advice and zap back to heaven. I really love Cas, but either bring him for something meaningful, or don't show him at all. I always said it would be nice- since he always talks abou the war in heaven- to do an ep where Sam and Dean die and go to heaven again, so we can actually see some that action. Anyway, hope to see more of him and some other angels.
4) Big Baddy- We've always had a major big baddy that the boys were going after. In seasons 1&2 it was Azazel, 3&4 had Lilith, and 5 had Lucifer. So far, besides the soul-searching, we didn't see any major baddie. And no, Crowley doesn't count. They were working for him, not trying to gank him. I saw quite a few teases about the next BB being introduced in the coming episode, and that he's really a guy you don't wanna meet in a dark ally (Like all the previous ones are). Hope he/she/it will live up to the hype.
5) Campbell\Braeden wrap-up- I think the Campbell story is pretty much over. Most of them are dead, and there's no more Crowley to bring Mary back for Grandpa Creepy, so... Where is there more to go with them? They're not like Sam and Dean, they're more cold-hearted. I hope they'll get a proper departure, and go back where they came from.
Same for Lisa&Ben. Dean admitted what we already knew in episode 6- He's not father. His own father raised him to be a hunter, not a family man. All that time he's with Lisa and Ben is just wishful thinking that he can be something he's not. And he's just putting them in danger every second he's with them. They should have a nice, little break-up, possibly with tears, and have them move again, this time without Dean.
That's it, that's a few changes I would like to see. And so I won't end this in a rant-ish mood, here's a few pinpoints of things I did like this season:
-RoboSam (Yeah, he needs his soul back, but his lack of empathy was mostly hillarious)
-The Humor (Fairy episode had me grinning all the time)
-Like I said, Angels ("I think we could rule Moses out as a suspect", "Look at my junk")
-Bobby and Rufus ("Grumpiest Old Men", anyone?)
So there you go. Hope we have an awesome rest-of-season. Oh, and #CWSucks.
