Ed proves he can be considerate and sensitive to his family.
When Vince and Bonnie find out that they are not legally married, they plan on having a second wedding at Ed's house. This time, Bonnie wanted her dad Terry (Ed Begley Jr.) to walk her down the aisle.
Ed has issues with the man. He reminded Vince the reason he missed their wedding the last time. The man is unreliable and dishonest. That doesn't matter. “People love their fathers no matter how terrible they are to them.”
Despite what Vince and Bonnie might think of Terry, Ed's opinion of the man doesn't change. When he found out that Bonnie let Terry leave the house with her money, Ed did everything he could to make sure Terry would shows up at his daughter's wedding this time, for Bonnie's sake.
When it becomes obvious that Terry was not going to show up again, Bonnie looks into Ed's eyes and says, “My dad is going to walk me down the aisle" Aw! "If you are willing.”
“Of course.” It certainly made Vince very happy to watch them bond. “You're family.”
Bonnie reminded him that it kinda goes against his definition of family. “A man can change.”
Comments:
This show is succeeding because it's not just about the jokes anymore. In some ways, Ed Goodson kind of reminds me of Archie Bunker.
