Last night saw the return of Nikita after a long break with the episode "Free".
The episode saw Alex return to the outside world after being promoted to an agent by Division. Michael escorts Alex to her new apartment, gives her the keys to her new car, and reminds her that Division have inserted a tracking device so they can locate her at any time around the globe. When Alex meets up with Nikita, Nikita soon realises that this is no ordinary tracking device . It is in fact a kill chip and Division have the power to kill Alex at any time.
Nikita works with Ryan to kidnap Birkhoff while Alex implants a virus into Division's computer framework. Nikita is able to intercept Alex's chip location and re-route it so Nikita has full control over the appearance of Alex's location. I'm not really entirely sure how that will work though, if Alex is out on a mission but the chip shows she is somewhere else surely Division will become suspicious? Nikita also manages to hack into Division and give a little speech to the trainees - awesome moment.
We also saw Amanda remind Alex that her outside life is only a cover-up for her job as an agent after Amanda saw that she had been spending some time in her neighbour's flat. I am interested to see what happens between Alex and her neighbour Nathan. There is definitely a spark between them but will Nikita stop Alex so she doesn't have to go through what Nikita did with her partner?
It was a bit of a slow episode but after a run of tension filled episodes and a long hiatus, it was nice to have a slower episode setting up the course for the remainder of the season. I have always liked Alex but she really shined for me last night. Nikita gave her the option to run, but she chose to stay in order to get revenge on Division for killing her parents. I am also really fond of the relationship between Nikita and Alex right now. Nikita genuinely cares for Alex and I think this really shone last night. They make a great duo!
Overall, a great return for the freshman show! I liked that the episode focused mainly on Alex and her passion for getting revenge on Division. I keep wondering if she's going to jump sides but she seems determined to bring Division down. Also, a quick note, I wish Michael and Nikita would just get together already! There is so much tension between them especially during the fight scene. Although we saw a random kiss scene between Nikita and Ryan, I still hope for some more Michael and Nikita scenes to try and break this tension.
