Showrunner Veena Sud has revealed details of forthcoming AMC mystery drama The Killing.
The series, based on Danish show Forbrydelsen, was picked up for a full run in August.
Sud told reporters at the TCA press tour: "[The show is] slow-burn storytelling in a sense that... we don't have to prettify or gloss over [things] or make something necessarily easy to digest [and] that we're able to go to all sorts of places that are honest, and dark, and beautiful, and tragic. In a way, that is how a story should be told."
She also refused to confirm whether the show's central mystery of teenager Rosie Larsen's murder will be resolved in the initial 13-episode run.
"Every episode is one day in the life of this investigation," she explained. "At this point, we're going to organically follow the story, and whether or not it gets solved at the end of the season is a mystery."
Sud suggested that The Killing will likely deviate from the original Danish source material.
"We're creating our own world," she announced. "We are using the Danish series as a blueprint, but we are kind of diverging and creating our own world, our [own] suspects and, potentially, ultimately who killed Rosie Larsen."
