What if the client you are defending is lying to you?
Nick responded to a call to help a former client, Mike Wayne, accused of sexual assault. When confronted, Mike was desperate, saying police made a mistake. In an already tense arrest, Nick wrestled the gun from Mike and made sure he didn't do anything stupid.
Mike claimed to have been with his mother all night until he went out to see a friend. Unfortunately, with positive victim ID, dead witness alibi, as Lisa said, they were screwed. Their weak case was looking weaker by the minute. “If we were on a mountaintop, with a telescope, we couldn't see the light from screwed.”
Meanwhile, Pete wasn't too happy to be selected as a juror on a case. Cole, the DA on the case, enjoyed every moment of his discomfort. Hoping he will convict. “And when you do, a little piece of you will die inside.”
A complication in Nick's case arises when Nick realized that Mike had been lying to them all along. Angry and frustrated for discrediting the victim's testimony, he had no choice but to continue with the defense and let the truth speak for itself. Justice prevailed when the jury found Mike guilty.
On his case, Pete helped to uncover a juror who had been bribed to hold out on a guilty verdict.
Comments:
It looked like Morelli & Kaczmarek earned a little respect in this episode, by taking the side of the prosecution.
Loved seeing Nick getting violently aggressive with Mike for betraying his trust.
Journee Smollett really stood out in this too. You could tell that Lisa was particularly affected by the victim's plight. Could it be a little too personal?
The light moment was woven well into the plot. Using the corporate credit card for personal expenses and linking it to how Al Capone was brought down by tax evasion.
