Oh, casting carousel, how you constantly spin.
My good friend Kate Stanhope at TV Guide is reporting that a casting call has gone out for a new series regular to join the existing foursome of Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. Kate tells us that "According to the official casting call, the character will be somewhere in his or her late 20s to early 30s, a wise-cracking, multilingual Asia expert recruited into the CIA right out of Harvard. The new addition also has a deep-rooted connection to McGarrett, having taken a bullet for him years ago. And it's still there, lodged next to the spine."
They're looking for the character to debut in the seventeenth episode this season (to give you an idea, episode ten aired last week - the show was in a rerun this week).
I find it kind of amusing that the show isn't out of the first season yet and they're already adding regulars, but for me, it's going to come down to who they cast in the role. The description doesn't move me either way, so I'll be waiting to see who brings it to life and what they do with it before I pass judgment. (My casting suggestion would've been to bring back Max Martini, but obviously that wouldn't work.)
Hopefully, this new regular will see more screen time than Taryn Manning, who's been sitting on the sidelines for the most part since making her much-hyped debut as Steve's sister Mary Ann. Manning hasn't been seen since Mary Ann walked into Steve's girlfriend(?) Cat Rollins (Michelle Borth) a few episodes back.
What do you think? Ready for the Five-O team to literally become five?
UPDATE: Furthermore, TVG says in their weekly spoiler column that "we will meet Chin's ex-fiancee, a beautiful doctor who helps solve one of the team's cases by identifying a dead body. Naturally, the couple has lots of unfinished business, which might be why the good doctor still wears Chin's engagement ring around her neck." So there won't be just one new face coming up...
