Psych 5.10- Extradition II- Recap

First of all, let me say- PSYCH IS BACK! That said, let's begin the recapping:

We Meet Again

The episode begins with a quick recap of the previous Extradition episode, featuring Despereaux (Though if need the recap, meaning you haven't seen it, you should be ashamed of yourself) and the long-awaited kiss of Shawn and Jules.

We learned that the elegant Pierre Despereaux invited Shawn and Gus to visit him in prison, and funded the entire trip. Shawn stops by for some small talk with Henry ("I'm not gonna bail you out this time"- Continuity!) about his feelings for Jules. He then stops by the police station and pours his heart to Buzz as well, and learns she updated her passport. After all those arrangements, the duo finally flies away to Canada. They enter the minimum security prison and wait for iiiiit....

Welcome back, Cary Elwes! I loved this guy since Princess Bride. I think he's awesome, and apparently Shawn agrees:

"You genuinely wanted me to be the greatest thief that ever lived."
-"You know that's right"

Followed by this hillarious exchange betwenn Despereaux and Gus:

"You don't need to prove to us that you're a great criminal"
-"I want to"
"You shouldn't"
-"But I will"

The face Despereaux made at that last line had me cracking up. Reminded me of Alice's Cheshire Cat. Again, Cary Elwes is awesome. Anyway, Shawn and Gus drive back from the prison, only to find out the guy they just visited slipped into their car, and then he steals it.

"I don't love you anymore"

The duo go to see Mackintosh, the cop that helped them last time, who tells them most of the froce are investigating the murder of one of the detectives. He hesitates about helping them with Despereaux, mainly because last time it cost him his job, but believes them that he broke out of prison once he hears a call on the police radio about and art theft. The team goes to the scene and find missing art peices, Despereaux's signature cigarette, and...a body? It appears Despereaux not only stole stuff, but also killed the house's owner, the city's crown prosecutor.

The gang returns to the prison only to find....that Despereaux is there. He gloats about his latest theft, and thanks Shawn and Gus for their "help". Although when Shawn is angry with him for killing the prosecutor, he claims that he's innocent and was set up. They leave the visiting room, and find out that Lassie and Jules also traveled North, in order to extradite Despereaux (Which is why Jules had her passport updated, and not because her trip with Declan. Nice red herring try, show). Shawn walks up to Jules (I love how he acts like a 16 year-old near her) and they schedule a talk later about their lip-lock.

The guys drive to their hotel, and right after accidentaly tips the bellboy with a Peppermint Patty ("That was way too generous"), they are surrounded by the cops, only to find out the bellboy they just "tipped" unconscious in the trunk. They go back to the police station, where they tell the chief, Ed, that Despereaux paid for their entire trip. Shawn tells him he cought Despereaux before, and he will catch him again and tie him to the murder case,IF he infact commited it.

And back to the crime scene. Shawn and Gus meet Despereaux there again, who says he escaped to find out who framed him. They try to get him captured, but he's better than that. Then They talk with the Prosecutor's wife, who says the safe was open, but nothing was stolen from it.

He gets them at the Gotham Toys R' Us, obviously

Shawn and Gus go to their hotel room, only to bump into Despereaux again, only this time he has a girl with him. After she leaves, Jules arrives, and due to the situation, Shawn ends up unwillingly offending her, and she leaves. Despereaux tells them the art theft was a job he got in prison from a guy called Marty. They say they'll help him find the guy, and leave the room ("And don't have sex in our beds").

They find Marty, and after some interrogation by Despereaux (not so elegant anymore, huh?) he tells him the job was ordered by Frank Crossley, a big crime boss. The police arrives (not so clear how they knew to go there), and Despereaux escapes with a Batman-esque grapple gun ("Where does he get those wonderful toys?").

Back at the police station, Ed shows Shawn a list that seemingly means that Crossley is innocent. Shawn finds a courier card on the dead detective's desk, with the same logo that he saw on a package at the Prosecutor's house.

The team goes to Crossley's house, where Shawn recaps the case for them- The detective found out something big about Crossley. He feared that it will get him killed, so he shared his founding with the prosecutor. Crossley found out about it, and killed them both to cut the loose ends, framing Despereaux for the prosecutor's murder, becase Despereaux was having an affair with his wife (hotel chick). They go to Crossley's house, and.... find him dead in the pool. Oops.

On the way back, Shawn and Gus find Despereaux at gun point by...Crossley's wife! Shawn re-recaps the case, only this time putting Crossley's wife in his role, revealing she was the mastermind behind it all. They run to a nearby cabin (Yes, the one we saw in the previous episode. strange how the same cabin is in a forest near Santa Barbara and a forest in Canda. Unless it's a TELEPORTING CABIN! :O). Despereaux takes a "leap of faith" and steps outside, but unfortunately getting shot for it. Good thing he distracted the woman, and Shawn smacks her from behind, knocking her out. Oh, and Gus runs for his life, of course.

PDA Overdose

Lassiter escorts Despereaux from prison (not before he schedules a lunch with Shawn). Shawn goes to Juliet, and finally pours his heart to the right person. They start making out in various places, and so begins the romace most viewers waited 5 and a half seasons for. The End.

All in all, this epidose was awesome. Although I was dissappointed by 2 things:

1. No flashbacks. They were shown every week once, but seems like they're starting to fade away. So what if Liam doesn't wanna do it anymore, the new kid isn't that bad. Hope we'll get to see more of them.

2. As awesome as Cary Elwes is, it seems all the other characters except S&G were pushed aside to give him more screen time. Henry only had a brief scene with Shawn, Lassie also wasn't there that much, and Jules was shown only to advance the romace plot.

I get it that they have cool guests, but the show's heart is its main characters, and their chemistry. I have no problem with the guests, the more the marrier, but you can shorten their screen time and still get a great result.

Again, this was an amazing return-from-hiatus ep, but bringing back some good ol' Psych stuff we got used to will make this half of the season even better.

I give Extradition II 4.75 Grapple Guns out of 5. Hope we have a great second-half-of-season, and who knows, maybe we'll see Despereaux again sometime.
