Nikita - Episode 1.08 - Phoenix - Review

'Phoenix' was yet another awesome episode from the freshman drama Nikita last night.

In the episode, we saw Thom graduate as an agent for Division as he kills a woman named Anna Harcourt. As the episode progresses, we find out that Anna was actually a spy working for Gogol. She has had an affair with a US Senator. Division do a deal to kill Anna providing the Senator continues his funding for Division.

It's a race between Nikita and Division. Nikita wants to leak the truth about the Senator and of course, Division need to stop this from happening. Nikita pays a visit to Anna's parents, only to discover that they are not really her parents and is taken hostage. A visit from the head of Gogol puts Nikita in a tricky situation as she is given a lethal toxin which will eventually kill her. She will only be able to get the antidote if she follows Gogol's orders and kills the US Senator.

I loved this part of the episode. The fight scene between Nikita and Anna's handlers was pretty spectacular and even though I'm on Nikita's side, it's nice to see that she is still vulnerable and she does sometimes lose. It keeps the show grounded and realistic. I wasn't so impressed with how simple it was for Alex to get the antidote though. Once she had made her way to the medical room, it was a little too easy for her to find. Although, I did think at one point she was going to get caught while she was in the medicine cabinet.

By the end of the episode, Nikita had managed to win again. She had found the antidote herself so there was no need for her to kill the Senator. She leaked his affair to the media and he was forced to resign. I was a bit disappointed with the fight Division put up at the party. It seemed a little too easy for Nikita to get away and I was expecting some huge fight. At the end of the episode, Gogol reveals he knows about the black boxes and he wants Nikita to work for him. I'm glad she chose to walk away, Nikita's independence is what makes the show so brilliant for me. I would like to see Gogol return though, which I am sure they will.

Overall, 'Phoenix' was another exciting and suspenseful episode. This show has quickly become one of my favourite shows to watch and I can't wait to see what happens in the next few weeks. Now Thom is an agent, is this going to cause issues between Nikita and Alex? Percy was again suspicious about how Nikita new about Anna, is he going to find out it's Alex, or will he suspect Michael? From the promo for next week, it looks like Michael and Nikita are working together, will Michael cross over and help Nikita? There are just so many awesome story lines going on at the minute and I really can't wait to find out what happens!
