Hello, I hope you are ready, for tomorrow is Jules' 42nd birthday. As we all know, the world (or at least Cougar Town) revolves around Jules. This is why she also has the power of decision. If she says something is true, than this is how it is. Well, at least if its about Grayson that is. As she decides Grayson is now 43 (although he is really 40). And although he may not agree he is 43, everyone else accepts it as it was written on stone. More than that, they are all (by all I mean Ellie, Laurie and Grayson) breaking their heads on giving Jules the best present ever so that she'll love them forever and ever (until next year) and pick them as winners. First though, Jules must decide what to do.
Laurie suggests that they'll all go shoot some children in her cousin's gun range/home, but Jules passes. Andy, however, wants to go dancing at the plaza and tries to persuade Jules by showing her his dance move but she, in response sprays him with an imaginary spray thingy one uses when one defends themselves from scary people. Ellie responds to that by bitch slapping (metaphorically) him and making him go sulk in the corner. However Jules thinks that it is not the way to behave to someone as sweet and sensitive as Andy. She is sure that she would be a better wife to him than Ellie, and Ellie encourages her to try.
Meanwhile, back to the race of the birthday gifts. After Jules seats them all down to tell them what they shouldn't give her (anything that isn't materialistic), Ellie, Laurie and Grayson find themselves in the bar. Ellie reminds them in a very smug white rap that she wins every year, so Laurie suggests that she and Grayson should join together and form team Laurson in order to beat her. Grayson refuses at first, but soon enough he understands that his gift sucks and he gives in to Laurie.
The only people who are not worried about Jules' birthday are Bobby and Travis, who we see at first at Travis college room. We then learn, that Travis' roommate maybe makes him self conscience whenever he raps, but is for some reason always there. Which make us believe Travis' roommate has no life and is secretly in love with Bobby (aren't we all though?). We also learn, that Bobby has a cold. Travis suggests that Bobby will try to put a tea pot kind of thing that you use to pour a fluid from one nostril and make it come out from the other. Bobby refuses at first saying that it is a fancy college thing that he doesn't understand. He is correct. Soon afterwards, he tries it and gets all the fluid in his lungs and almost drowns, this is causing him to have fluids constantly pouring out of his nose. Like the tea pot he used to begin with.
However, Bobby Cobb doesn't give up. He admits to be worried about losing his connection with Travis, as he will move on in life and learn all the “sophisticated college things”, and therefore tries the tea pot again. This time, succeeding with only damaging his hearing. A small price to pay for a better connection with his son.
Not like his best bud Bobby, Andy motives aren't so clear and clean as he manipulates Jules to think she said she doesn't see Andy as one of her best friends, all so he could have time alone with her to manipulate her some more to agree to go dancing. An evil genius. This is how his cunning plan works: See Jules sitting with Andy in a cafe. See Andy saving Jules from Barb. See Jules grateful for the save. See Andy skipping. See Andy pretending to fall and spraying his ankle. See Jules thinking that now Andy can't go dancing. See Andy making up a heartbreaking story about some aunt or grandma who was poor and came to the country and all she had was dance. See flash dance (or any other movie that is about dance and stories with overcoming poverty etc). See Jules falling in Andy's trap and agreeing to go dancing (which actually showed that Jules indeed didn't know Andy very well, she never saw his manipulative side before).
Lastly, see Ellie tell Jules she was played, see Jules confronts Andy, and see Jules played once more.
We move forward on to Jules' birthday. Everyone is there but Andy, all hyped for the gift giving ceremony. After approving of Travis' and Bobby's gifts, it's time to see what Ellie came up with. But she was played by team Laurson, to believe that Jules was interested in eastern art, and gave her an ancient chinese gong which Jules hated. Then it was time for the cooking gift of said team Laurson. Only, she hated it too. That wasn't all. Grayson too, was played: By Laurie, who gave Jules the charm bracelet Grayson suggested in the first place.
Insert scary music here. Then insert some moving music (there was a lot of music in this episode). Then the devil showed up. Walking, and ready to dance, giving Jules some very dirty dancing times.
This is just goes to prove, that Andy is as evil (if not more so) than Ellie and therefore deserves her, much to the relief of the rest of the planet.
