How I Met Your Mother - Episode 6.08 - Natural History – Review

This week’s How I Met Your Mother was one of my favorite episodes of all time. I really enjoyed every thing that happened within the episodes and it didn’t loose my attention at all. It also psyched me out more for future episodes.

The episode begins with Ted being upset that Zoey called him a fat cat in an article she wrote, and he had to see and deal with the article, because it was near his Saturday crossword puzzle. It pans over to Marshall and Barney in tuxes pretending to be elitist and fat cats, because they have all been invited to a big gallery opening because of Goliath National Bank.

There were 3 major events in last night’s episode, which are all at fault for me liking the episode so much.

Firstly, we see a different side of Zoey. As Ted is panning the room looking at people, he finds Zoey all dolled up looking like one of society’s elitists. He walks over to her and teases her a bit, and we meet The Captain AKA Kyle, Zoey’s husband. The Captain seemed like a pretty cool guy and I really liked his character. I also liked Zoey’s character a little bit more last night. Between her scheming to get Ted to trash GNB on tape, but then promising not to use after hearing him stick up for a little, she really became easier to sympathize with even though her two lifestyles seem kind of hypocritical.

The second major event was Marshal finally being honest with Lily. He tells her that he had been asked to sign a 5-year contract, and Lilly is laughing and trashing it, but he admits that he wants to take it. She is a bit shocked and asked her how long he’s felt this way, and he admits that he’s felt like it since his first day at GNB. He has given up on his dream of “saving the world” for more money. Lily becomes really upset with him, and basically tells him she’s not the Marshall she fell in love with. Although, I side with Lily and even college-Lily and college-Marshall on calling him a sellout, Marshall does make a great case in the end. Lily realizes he’s changed his career, but he’s still the same Marshall, and Marshall tells her that he knows she’d love him if they were poor and he was saving the world, but he hopes she could love him if he used all his money to spoil her and their future child. I thought that was a really sweet sentiment.

Lastly, we have a major event with Barney. At the beginning of the episode, Barney tells the gang about a story where he knocked down a whale, when he was a kid, in the same museum they were to visit that night. The gang doesn’t believe him, and we believe it to be the end of that. When they arrive Barney and Robin venture off on their own trying to defy every “do not touch” sign in the museum. They’re having a lot of fun, but they finally get caught when they both wear things from the exhibits. The officer begins to tell them about a story about a kid who dropped a whale—Barney’s story—he reveals that the child is Barney and says that he was with his father. Barney says it has to be some sort of mistake because it was his Uncle Jerry. The officer tells him that he had indeed said he was his father. Barney accepts that his Uncle Jerry is probably his father, but when Robin asks him what he plans to do, he says he says he doesn’t plan to do anything and that he doesn’t want anyone else to find out.

I really hope Barney eventually decided to seek out his father. He seemed to have a good relationship with him when he was a kid, but the day of the museum was the last day he saw him, because his mother was upset that he let Barney destroy the whale. I can’t wait to see the episodes to come that deal with this matter and with Ted and Zoey.
