LOS ANGELES, CA (October 6, 2010) – SHOWTIME has announced the second season pick-up of its groundbreaking lesbian reality series THE REAL L WORD. Season two will consist of nine episodes and follow a group of intriguing women – some returning and some new – as they share their personal stories at work and play, in the Los Angeles lesbian scene – all uncut and uncensored. Casting for the new members is set to begin this week and production will begin later this year.

“I'm thrilled and truly excited by the support from SHOWTIME and their desire to really bust it out in the second season. We’re looking to tell deeper stories about some of the cast members whom we got to know in season one, and to meet some new women whose lives reflect additional facets of lesbian life and experience,” says executive producer Ilene Chaiken, who also served as one of the executive producers of the long-running SHOWTIME drama series, THE L WORD®.

Along with Chaiken, the series will continue to be executive produced by reality producers Magical Elves (Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz) who recently garnered the Emmy® Award for “Outstanding Reality Program or Competition” for the hit reality competition series Top Chef. Season one of THE REAL L WORD, viewed by more than one million viewers each week, is the first gay-themed reality series on premium cable.
