-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remains the network to beat on Friday, but just 8.84 million viewers and a 1.6 rating/6 share, on average, is certainly nothing worth crowing about. Second in both categories was NBC, followed by ABC, and Fox and The CW tied for the No. 4 and 5 spot. Early into the 2010-11 season, Fox is riddled with holes aplenty.
CBS’ relocated Medium won the 8 p.m. hour, with 5.93 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/5 share among adults 18-49. But one year earlier, former inhabitant Ghost Whisperer was noticeably stronger at 7.62 million viewers and a 1.7/ 7 in the demo on Oct. 2, 2009. At 9 p.m. on CBS, relocated CSI: NY is down, as expected, by double-digit percentages from it’s year-ago performance as the Wednesday 10 p.m. occupant. But 9.67 million viewers and a 1.7/ 6 among adults 18-49, first in both categories, is a vast improvement from lead-in Medium and year-ago occupant Medium (Viewers: 7.84 million; A18-49: 1.9/ 6 on Oct. 2, 2009). Consider CSI: NY on Friday a “winner.” Week two of Blue Bloods at 10 p.m. remained the top-rated show of the evening, with 11.21 million viewers and a 2.0/ 7 among adults 18-49. One week earlier, Blue Bloods launched with 13.01 million viewers and a 2.2/ 7 in the demo on Sept. 24.
On NBC, a two hour edition of Dateline averaged 6.16 million viewers and a 1.3/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:
Dateline (NBC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.34 million (#2), A18-49: 1.0/ 4 (#2t)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.89 million (#2), A18-49: 1.2/ 5 (#1t)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.48 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 5 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.91 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#2)
Keep in mind that upcoming inspirational reality hour School Pride will open on NBC on Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. At 10 p.m., new legal drama Outlaw was a bust with just 4.70 million viewers (#2) and a 1.0/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. (#2, tied with ABC’s 20/20). One week earlier, Outlaw debuted in the time period with an almost identical 4.89 million viewers and a 1.1/ 4 in the demo on Sept. 24.
ABC, which remains mum on when Friday 8-10 p.m. occupants Secret Millionaire and Body of Proof will premiere, filled the 8-10 p.m. block with repeats of Modern Family (Viewers: #3, 3.98 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.0/ 4), Better with You (Viewers: #3, 3.18 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3) and No Ordinary Family (Viewers: #3, 4.14 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5). At 10 p.m., veteran 20/20 did not impress with just 4.54 million viewers (#3) and a 1.0/ 4 in the demo (#2, tied with NBC’s Outlaw).
With Human Target moving to Wednesday at 8 p.m. in November, Fox’s filled the Friday 8 p.m. hour this week with a repeat of fading House (Viewers: #4, 2.57 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3). That led into The Good Guys at a losing 2.51 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 0.7/ 3 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m.
The CW capped off the evening with almost identical performances for Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.36 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 4) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.35 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/. 4).
