CANNES -- One of the Mouse House's better performing freshmen series on ABC, "No Ordinary Family," has inked key international licensing deals here at MIPCOM.
Among the takers are paybox UKTV in Britain, Cuatro in Spain, Mediaset in Italy and Sony Entertainment TV across Latin America. Several Asian broadcasters have also inked for the series.
Exec producer Greg Berlanti was on hand Monday to tub-thumb the Michael Chiklis family-targeted show, before rushing back to LA for the opening of his upcoming movie this weekend and the shooting of the eighth episode of the series.
"The U.S. performance and the universal appeal of its characters and storytelling is driving further interest and sales of 'Family' among global partners," Ben Pyne, president of Global Distribution for Disney Media Networks, said.
Pyne also unveiled several unrelated deals during a press lunch Monday:
Spain's Antena 3 will be the new free TV home of Disney movies -- from "Bolt" to "Tron" to "Alice in Wonderland" -- starting in 2011.
Shanghai Media will renew a localized "Amazing Race" called "China Rush" for a second season.
Fox International Channels in Asia has extended its long-term relationship with the Mouse House and will air Disney movies on its various platforms in that region.
And finally the Mouse House is beginning to get its arms around the Marvel TV product which that newly acquired unit is bringing into the Disney fold. Mouse House mavens are selling here a Marvel TV series based on "The Avengers" and teasing another one called "Ultimate Spider-Man," which will be ready in the run-up to the release of the latest installment of the eponymous Sony movie.
