Nikita returned for its sixth episode, ‘Resistance’ last night after taking a break last week.
Unlike previous episodes, ‘Resistance’ didn’t focus on Nikita and Division completing a mission but focused on Alex and her past with Nikita. This episode was extremely well written and was easily one of the best episodes of the series so far.
The flashbacks this episode went back to when Nikita revealed to Alex why she chose to help her. We discover that Nikita saved Alex the night her parents were killed by Division. Nikita then handed Alex over to a family friend who then sold her. In an emotional scene, Nikita told Alex she came back to find Alex so she could see that she had done some good in her time at Division. I found this scene very touching. Maggie Q is an extremely talented actress and she did not hold back in this scene.
In the present, the majority of the episode focused on Alex and her evaluation at Division. We see Alex being told that she has to interrogate a member of a terrorist group and she will be evaluated on this. Alex doesn’t do too well in the room and the terrorist manages to escape from the chair he is tied too and attacks Alex.
Alex and the other recruits are then taken to a location away from Division to continue with their evaluation. However, the blacked out bus is targeted by the group of terrorists and the recruits are taken. Alex wakes up tied to a chair and attacked to an electric shock device. A man who claims to be the brother of the man she interrogated earlier starts to interrogate her. It is then revealed to the viewers that this is actually part of the evaluation. Michael, Percy and Amanda are all watching Alex being interrogated.
After being shocked numerous times, Alex reveals to the man that the name of the organisation who has his brother is Division. She then reveals that she is “not one of them”. My stomach turned at this point. I was so worried she was going to reveal all her secrets on camera. Fortunately, she didn’t. Alex manages to escape from the chair and shoots the man interrogating her. She runs five miles to a local truck station and phones Nikita who comes to fetch her. As Nikita arrives, so does Michael. Nikita manages to hide and is not seen by Michael. Michael tells Alex he won’t let anything happen to her and she agrees to go back to Division with him.
Back at Division, Michael tells security to take Alex away to be cancelled but is stopped by Percy who reveals Michael was also being evaluated today and has passed, for now. Back in Alex’s room, Michael tells her that he knew he was being evaluated which is why he had to tell the guards to cancel her but he wouldn’t have let anything happen to her. There was some excellent acting from Lyndsy during these scenes.
The episode also looked at Nikita and Owen. It is clear Owen is not willing to work with Nikita to bring down Division. We later on discover that Owen is the person who killed Daniel, Nikita’s boyfriend. This scene again had some amazing acting in from Maggie Q. While Nikita had gone to see Alex, Owen had managed to escape and go and retrieve the black box in Montreal.
I hope people enjoyed this episode as much as me. We certainly made some big developments in the storyline. It will be interesting to see if Nikita and Owen manage to work together after Owen told Nikita what he did. I also can’t wait to see what happens over at Division now. Will Alex and Michael become a couple? Does Percy trust Michael again? Is Amanda even more curious about Alex and her big secret now?
The episode lacked the usual epic fight scenes but this didn’t seem to matter. I hope the writers start to make Nikita and Alex work more together in future episodes. They did interact this episode, more than previous, but sometimes I feel like I am almost watching two separate shows, one with Nikita and one with Alex. The scenes with Nikita and Alex are really good so let’s hope that they work together more in the future which I am sure they will.
