After last week's excellent episode I was on the fence as to whether this week's episode would be able to continue the high standard. The fifth episode, "The Guardian", did not disappoint however.
The episode focused more on 'Division' and Percy this week rather than Nikita and getting to know the character's pasts. The lack of flashbacks in the episode meant it moved at a much quicker pace than previous episodes.
Nikita's mission this week crossed paths with Percy. They were both after a 'black box' which contained secrets about Division and Percy himself. Owen Elliot is the 'protector' of the box who works for Divison. When he goes to retrieve the box from storage at a bank, he is caught in an armed robbery which catches Percy's attention. Elliot manages to escape the bank with the 'black box' but Percy is concerned as the box holds Division's biggest secrets. Percy goes to find Elliot which causes Michael to question Percy and his motives.
Nikita manages to find Owen first and get the black box from him. Owen ends up being shot by Percy but at the end we see Nikita managed to save Owen. During the mission, Owen's girlfriend, Emily, was shot and killed. Now both Nikita and Owen have lost a loved one due to Divison. It will be interesting to see if this means they will team up to take them down.
Back at Divison, Alex manages to break into Percy's office to try and find information. She has to hide when Michael and Birkhoff also break in. Michael is a very interesting character and I can't wait to see which way he goes. He has had more than one opportunity to kill Nikita but has always let her go, he is also now questioning Percy and his motives. Could this mean we will see Michael team up with Nikita in the future? It is certainly a possibility.
Alex is also becoming closer with Tom. Will she reveal her secret to him? Is Jayden on to her? Does Amanda still have questions about Alex? Considering the show is only five episodes in it is certainly opening itself to have some great storylines and future plots. Already we are seeing the story and questions get deeper week-on-week.
This suspense filled episode has certainly made me excited for next weeks. It was nice to take a break from the show being centric on characters and their past and instead focusing more on the mission and the relationships on the show. I do enjoy the personal side of Nikita which this week's episode seem to lack but for some reason, that didn't seem to matter. Let's hope the writers manage to balance the action and personal side to the show.
