How I Met Your Mother - Episode 6.05 - Architect of Destruction - Recap

As a huge fan of the first few seasons of House, MD., I was excited to see tonight’s episode with the awesome Jennifer Morrison. Her character also seemed fun and interesting and was said to be a key figure in bringing us closer to the mother. I thought the episode would be golden.

The episode started out normal, as Ted was presented with the problem of having to build the GNB building where a “historical” hotel currently stood. He was against the idea from an architecture point of view, because he didn’t want to tear down something so amazing, but then Barney got Ted to admit there was a girl involved.

Zooey (played by Jennifer Morrison) was an activist who was into architecture and was hoping to protect the hotel GNB was going to tear down. Ted joined her cause hoping to get with her, but then he found out she was married and saving the hotel no longer seemed that important.

Before learning she was married Ted tried changing his layout to keep the basic structure of the building, and the group teases Ted about always changing to please a lover-interest, but he brought up a great point about how everyone does that to some extent. I agree with Ted on this one, because I think sometimes people do lie in an attempt to impress their significant other, but then end up liking the new thing, because of it.

Meanwhile Marshall finds out that Lily and Robin talk about their sex life after Lily reveals that Robin told her Max, who Robin is dating, has a small penis. Marshall can’t seem to shake that thought out of his head, but then he figures out this means they also talk about him. It was funny to picture Robin and Lily in a Sex and the City scenario—Cosmos and all. This bothers Marshall even more and he tries to deal with it by having Lily lie to Robin about their sex life over the phone.

I thought the episode did a great job of introducing Zooey’s character. Even though that seemed to be its main purpose, I love the humour that arose from Marshall and Lily’s situation. I’m very excited to see what happens next with Ted and Zooey, because even though she’s married Ted felt that there was something about her and knows he’s going to see her again.
