CSI: Miami - Emily Procter and Adam Rodriguez on the future of 'Delquesne'

The Oct. 10 episode of "CSI: Miami" contained a scene that confused many fans. As it turns out, it also confused the two actors involved, Emily Procter and Adam Rodriguez.

Their characters -- crime-scene technicians Calleigh Duquesne and Eric Delko -- have been involved in an office romance (which Rodriguez nicknamed "Delquesne"), but this scene, set in the CSI HQ locker room, seemed to throw that relationship into question.

Calleigh announced she was going out to dinner with "a friend," causing Eric to remark that her plans were none of his business. She countered by saying that they were friends, and that that's the sort of things that friends discuss.

Then she said, "You know I love you like family."

As Calleigh exited at the end of the scene, Eric gave a longing, apparently sad look.

Sitting on the lab sets of "CSI: Miami" during the filming of the show's 200th episode, Procter looks at Rodriguez and says, "Did you know we broke up?"

"You know," says Rodriguez, "I wasn't sure about it. I just thought we weren't addressing it or whatever. I guess we did ... I didn't know we broke up."

"I didn't think that we broke up," says Procter. "I've been telling people that we didn't. Because on that Sunday night, I was getting all these phone calls. They're like, 'Calleigh and Eric broke up?' I'm like, 'No, we didn't.' That scene ... they made it look like we broke up. I think that's why people were so upset. but in my mind, we didn't."

"Even if we have broken up," says Rodriguez, "well get back together."

Since Procter, 42, is currently very pregnant with her first child -- she's due in mid-December -- the breakup or hiatus or whatever it is has negated the necessity of shooting love scenes, at least for now. That somewhat disappoints Rodriguez.

"I don't know if they've made a decision where they want to go with that yet," Rodriguez says. "It's going to be fun to explore. I thought it would have been fun to have little private moments in the CSI lab, whether it was sneaking a kiss or having an argument ..."

"Right?" says Procter. "Eating a sandwich."

"Just going through the ups and downs," Rodriguez continues. "No one's come out and said it's not going to happen, but I guess that could be interpreted as a break-up scene."

Procter wasn't sure her pregnancy would not be written into the show when she originally told Rodriguez about it.

"I would say Adam was the first person at work who knew I was pregnant, because we had lunch, and I said, 'You're going to be a dad on TV,'" she says.

"It was hilarious," recalls Rodriguez. "It was at a restaurant, I'm saying hello, we're hugging, and she's like, 'Look down.' I'm looking at her shoes. I'm like, 'What? Oh, nice shoes.' She's like, 'No!' I'm like, 'Oh, my God!' I was totally surprised. I'm like, 'You're pregnant!'"

"And I thought I was so huge that I can't possibly get any bigger, and now I realize," Procter says. "I look down now, and I'm like, 'There's no more room. I've got no more room left.' But I do."
