Primer: Lie to Me 2.21 “Darkness and Light”

(A snarky recap of this week's episode)

The Premise: When a missing friend of Emily’s gets mixed up in porn, The Lightman Group investigates.

The Personal: Cal and Gillian go meta, Loker and Torres play Survivor: Horizontal Island, Emily shows an interest in her father’s work, and Lightman/Foster fans make “Merry Christmas” trend on Twitter.

The Resolution: After Emily’s friend is rescued from her fledgling career in semi-conscious porn, she reveals the reason she left home: a recovered memory of her father rearranging the scene of her mother’s fatal accident, several years ago. When questioned, the father admits he removed the toys responsible for his wife’s fall down the stairs, explaining to Cal that he didn’t want his daughter going through life knowing she’s technically guilty of matricide. Oh, and the girl has HIV because she was in porn and nothing good ever comes of that. Cal concocts a lie to shift the blame for the fateful toys onto her sibling, enabling her to return home without feeling like an object of scorn. Reynolds assists Cal in nabbing the male adult film star who knowingly transmitted the virus. Judge Amy Gray’s political career tanks when the press gets wind of the scandal.

What We Learned from this Episode:

Loker gets rejected (like a boss). The Lightman Group’s man-child gets a promotion, quickly putting an end to his sexual relationship with Torres. So now that the other testicle has finally dropped, the question is, what’s he going to do with it?

Emily’s friends are interested in the arts. Between the misguided group making webisodes of their romps with college boys and the professional porn star, Em’s social circle is beginning to look a lot like the cast list of Girls Gone Wild. But at least Foster’s a good influence… uh, wait. Scratch that.

Foster is interested in bondage. Surprisingly, I’m not making this one up. Go figure.
