I don't have a huge amount to say about 'Mike and Molly' just yet. I enjoyed the Pilot, but in a very similar way to how 'The Big Bang Theory' got started, I felt like I was watching a show about fat people who happen to fall in love rather than two people who fall in love who happen to be overweight (for Big Bang Theory, replace fat with 'nerdy' and in love with 'friends'). How well that dynamic works is reflected in the jokes - when Mike is sharing with the group, his warm persona lights the room and is funny both within the show and for the audience. When Mike breaks a table because he leans on it, I didn't crack a smile.
Equally, the scenes where Mike and Molly actually interact are great, while scenes involving the supporting characters feel both offensive and forced, even though Swoosie Kurtz hits all of her lines and the cop friend gets a few funny one-liners in there.
It's only a pilot episode, so there's room for improvement. But I don't really stick with a show I don't like for more than 3 to 4 episodes, so check this space in a months time. And there's definitely plenty to keep me going - the chemistry between the two leads is instant, and I could watch a whole episode of those OA meeting monologues.
Not giving up on this right away.
