Locke and Key - FOX Commits to Series

Thanks to Darthlocke for the heads up.

Following hefty interest from other nets, Fox has landed Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci's adaptation of the graphic novel "Locke and Key."
Also on Wednesday, Fox confirmed that it was giving Jamie Foxx another shot at producing a sketch comedy series for the net.

"Locke and Key" has been given a series commitment from Fox. Hourlong is being adapted by scribe Josh Friedman; Kurtzman and Orci are exec producers.

Twentieth Century Fox TV is producing along with DreamWorks TV and Kurtzman and Orci's K.O. Paper Products banner. DreamWorks' Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are exec producing along with K.O.'s Heather Kadin and IDW Publishing's Ted Adams. Steven Spielberg had been involved with the project early on but he's no longer an exec producer.

"Locke and Key" comes from Joe Hill, Stephen King's son, who has created a world about brothers who live in a mysterious New England mansion.

As for the Foxx show, Fox has given a series order to a new, untitled sketch-comedy series from the performer and set to air during the upcoming TV season. Affion Crockett ("The Boondocks," "Dance Flick") will star and also serve as a producer.

This project reps Foxx's second stab at producing a sketch laffer for Fox. Foxx developed a sketch show for Fox last year -- one of several that the net picked up to pilot, including separate projects from auspices including Dana Carvey.

Fox passed on the Foxx and Carvey projects, but the network went back to Foxx to start over and develop a new project after last year's pilot was scrapped.

Foxx, of course, was a latter-season member of Fox's seminal early 1990s sketch comedy "In Living Color."

"Jamie Foxx's brilliance first shined on Fox, so it's fantastic to welcome him back to the network," said Fox Entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly.

Fox isn't shying away from the "In Living Color" comparisons, citing it as inspiration for the new show, which the net promises will be "a fresh take on pop culture, including spoofs of movie trailers, commercials, TV shows, musicvideos and celebrities, with a diverse cast made up of the very best new young comedians on the scene today. Additionally, some of the biggest names in Hollywood will be stopping by for a visit."

Fox Television Studios, Foxx/King Entertainment and the Tannenbaum Co. are the studios. Foxx, Marcus King ("Hangin' With Mr. Cooper," "The Jamie Foxx Show"), Jaime Rucker King ("Ray," "From G's to Gents"), Eric Tannenbaum ("Two and a Half Men") and Kim Tannenbaum ("Two and a Half Men") are exec producers.
