Winners (Day 1)
Fox Mulder, Sun Hwa Kwon, Dean Winchester & Veronica Mars.
And talk about a start to the competition, where we have had a huge amount of votes rivalling the very latter stages of the Best Show competition. It seems that Supernatural has maintained all the support it had to beat LOST in the semi-finals, and at the time of writing (1617 bst), is inching ever closer to pulling off one of the great comebacks. When I woke this morning it was over 2,500 votes behind, and whether it manages to catch up or not, it will have been a mighty performance. Speaking of mighty performances, Barney fans can be mighty impressed with how hard it has taken one of the competition favourites. #The Update is that Dean won the tie, taking the lead 16 minutes before the round closed. It was a crushing blow for Barney fans and a sign of how strong the supernatural characters are in the competition, and very harsh on Barney who led for the remaining 23 and 3/4 hours. In the other matches, Fox Mulder, Sun Hwa Kwon and Veronica Mars won fairly easily despite early troubles from Derek Shepherd (for Fox) and Blair Waldorf (for Sun). That also means LOST, which had the most characters nominated into the final 64 gets one of, on-paper, the weaker characters through.
Don't forget to keep following your bracket if you entered the competition at http://www.dawgsled.com/darkufo/welcome.asp
Today we have some blinding ties, with Benjamin Linus kicking us off against Walter Bishop. The genius of Michael Emerson was that he made a character introduced in the latter stages of 'LOST's second season so important that by the end of the shows run I could not imagine the show without him, and Ben is truly a work of a master at his art. Does this give him the edge over Walter Bishop, 'Fringe's mad professor, another brilliant work of art from John Noble. To see two such great characters against each other in round one is saddening, but the way the cookie crumbles. Also we have a character dying to dig her teeth into round one, Sookie Stackhouse from 'True Blood', taking on a woman eager to stop any vampires digging their teeth into anything, Buffy Summers. Also we have Chuck Bass, the second of 'Gossip Girl's entrants in the competition, taking on blacklisted spy Michael Westen of 'Burn Notice.' The final tie is cookie 'Friend' Pheobe Buffay taking on the most nominated character on the women's side of the draw, and second 'LOST' character of the day, Juliet Burke.

Are any of these characters a certainty for round two, this remains to be seen. But place your votes folks.
Benjamin Linus vs. Walter Bishop
Sookie Stackhouse vs. Buffy Summers
Chuck Bass vs. Michael Westen
Pheobe Buffay vs. Juliet Burke
In advance, the voting window is 24 hours, and I have set closing times for the poll, but if they do not work, or they aren't set at any point in the competition, the poll will close when I check the votes myself. This is not at all due to cheating, it's due to the fact that I will be busy and so please let's avoid the torrent of abuse that the infamous Smallville vs. The Vampire Diaries produced :P
Have fun guys, and any questions as always email me on:

Thanks for voting and commenting, and spread the word folks. Tomorrow features the likes of Jack Shepherd, Temperance Brennan, Chandler Bing & The Doctor amongst others

What? Walter losing against Ben?! o.Ô
ReplyDeleteNo way!!!!
That is the number of people who voted after the voting officially closed.
ReplyDelete-Walter Bishop
ReplyDelete-Buffy Summers
-Michael Westen
-Juliet Burke
Walt, Sookie, Juliet!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Dark, it's very unlikely somebody is cheating; of course some people vote twice, one vote at home and one vote at the office but it doesn't change the results.
ReplyDeleteI have made a comment on today's poll, not about cheating but about a big wave of votes to come by the end of the week if i am correct.
You do know how accurate my predictions are ;)
Ben, Buffy, Michael, and Phoebe. And it's spelled Phoebe not Pheobe : )
ReplyDeleteIn this poll, I vote anyone but LOST. Two easy choices for me that way. That leaves my favorite female character, Buffy, and the character from my second favorite show, Michael from Burn Notice. But my real bet is that no contest on this list will have as many votes as the Barney vs Dean contest.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe that Buffy lost the competition against Sookie. I like Sookie, but Buffy is WAY better.
ReplyDeleteGood to know that Juliet won, I love her so much!
Am very disappointed in Buffy fans :(
ReplyDeleteWell today was a score for my bracket competition picks but a major loss in what I wanted. I disagree with every single winner this time.
ReplyDeleteUrgh. I've just finished the post for Round 1.3 based on what I thought were pretty definate results about 45 mins ago, and now Buffy & Phoebe could still win their ties.
ReplyDeleteGood going me. Should I still post the major fail that was my results summary as well as the new one if needs be?
Yep. After season 2, the only time I watched LOST was when I was forced to. I guess it's a good thing I did if Sayid turned terrible too. Ben and that weird-toed statue were the last straw for me. I had just been burned by The X-Files' "the truth may be out there but we are never going to tell you what it is" non-movement and I wasn't about to spend another 9 years of my life on another mytharc that seemed to go nowhere. Who knows though? If I had stuck through another season, maybe I would be actively campaigning for Ben now instead of Walter.
ReplyDeleteMy votes Ben, Buffy, Michael, Juliet
ReplyDeleteImpressive comeback Juliet.
ReplyDeleteSookie is the most annoying character on tv I cant believe she's winning.
How is Sookie gonna beat Buffy? Seriously? Buffy's a tiny, superpowered little woman with the strength of ten men and the drama of fifty women, and Sookie is a freaking waitress with telepathy... or whatever. And Sookie's beating her. Whatever. Vote Buffy!
ReplyDeleteok...I completely agree with all of this XD
ReplyDeleteCome on Michael Westen :(
ReplyDeleteBuffy loosing in round 1... so sad ;/
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that Sookie is winning over BUFFY? Buffy was an amazing character and she still is. She was around before all these new vampire shows, she was in the original. In my opinion, Sookie cannot even begin to compare to Buffy and Buffy should be winning.
ReplyDeleteAdam, do you know which day Dexter Morgan is on and who he is against?
ReplyDeleteJuliet is losing!?
ReplyDeleteIf you have never seen Gossip Girl or Burn Notice, here's why you should vote for Michael Westen over Chuck Bass:
ReplyDeleteMichael is an ex-spy who was burned (blacklisted) by his own government to force him into doing jobs he would normally never do. He plays multiple characters in each episode and is often torn between working to get his old job back, helping others who can't fight for themselves, and balancing his unique family structure (mom, brother, protege, best friend, and ex-girlfriend). He's the new kind of good guy - one who may make mistakes along the way but usually has good intentions or his own version of the big picture. He's a complicated character, complete with childhood baggage, whose journey from loner to team leader makes you root for him - usually.
Chuck Bass is the most interesting character on Gossip Girl in my opinion, but he does not have the depth that Michael does. He is elite New Yorker with scads of cash and an equal amount of melodrama, the typical poor little rich kid with major family issues. His life is filled with sex scandals, drug scandals, money scandals, family scandals, and his on and off-again girlfriend Blair. Still it's hard to feel for Chuck, since unlike Michael who tries to make the best of his situation and help people, Chuck actively tears down everything and everyone. He's a schemer alright but, except for a brief moment when he was written with a little more insight, he's a bit shallow as a character.
Wow. A couple of shocks on the cards?! Juliet and Buffy both failing to find their feet.
ReplyDeleteBuffy was one of the biggest let-downs in the Show Competition, she just doesn't seem to have the fan-base still.
Glad Ben is winning, as much as it pains me to see Walter heading out.
Chuck has 666 votes... for some reason this doesn't surprise me. Mother chucker :P
ReplyDeleteI just love Ben, Buffy and Juliet, they are three of my ALL-time favortie characters. I really love them to death. Too bad most of them are not doing verry well on the voting :((
ReplyDeleteOh, and I voted for Michael as well.
Ben, Sookie, Michael and Juliet.
ReplyDeleteYou'd have to be pretty pathetic to purposefully vote against a character cos your panties are in a twist about a show winning a different competition.
ReplyDeleteWait. This is the internet.
I just want Juliet to go away.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that Ben will win this round. That was my prediction in the bracket. Still, I would be glad to be wrong. The fact that this site leans so heavily toward LOST is one of the reasons why I hope the final winner is not from LOST. It would suggest that the competition is reaching out to a wide variety of people and will hopefully lead to better comments. The comments are what makes this contest better than other sites.
ReplyDeleteI obviously want it to be Dean, Buffy, Scully, or Mulder, but it wouldn't break my heart if it were House or Jack Bauer, even if I don't particularly like those characters either. If we must have a LOST winner, then my vote goes to Juliet because I checked out of LOST before I could dislike her.
No way Walter is going to beat Ben. Ben is fucking LOVED by so many Lost fans and Lost has a much greater online presence than Fringe does, especially on this site. Tough choice but I had to go with Dr. Linus.
ReplyDelete">:(!" Ha.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? Dean has pulled one of the harder brackets again. Most likely he is going against Fox Mulder and someone from LOST. Combine the impressive and very passionate voters of both The X-Files and LOST with the fact that people are voting against Dean simply because they did not like Supernatural winning the Best Show competition and I would say that nothing is certain. The fact that it took so much campaigning for Dean to win over Barney, whom I bet no one chose as the winner in their competition brackets, says that it will be an uphill battle every single round.
ReplyDeleteActually, if Sayid was a choice, I would vote for him. I really liked Sayid. Possibly Hurley too. I cannot say that about any of the LOST characters we have in the race. I hate Locke with a fiery passion. He is one of the worst characters I ever had to sit through. Kate is like Meredith Gray to me - whiny and annoying. I liked Jack at first but then he started to grate on my last nerve. Sun I liked but she always seemed like background furniture, not someone to describe as a Favorite Character. I never connected to Ben and his smarmy evil ways. Plus he was a big part of the problem I had with LOST - too many questions, NEVER any answers. As for Juliet, well, I stopped watching LOST before she became a major player so I don't know if I would like her or not. Basically, I will vote for her if she is facing someone I truly cannot stand. So the issue may not be as LOST-focused as it seems. I just don't care about any of these particular characters unless it is to thoroughly despise them.
ReplyDeleteMichael Emerson is a great actor - no doubt. But as a character Ben is not appealing to me. Walter is a flawed character who is trying to make up for his past mistakes, especially to his son. That brings a humanity and resonance to his character that makes me not only empathize with him, but also root for him. I want Walter to work out his issues with his son, to make up for the evil things he did in the pursuit of science, and to find a sort of peace. I also really want Walter to win this round.
ReplyDeleteTurns out I did a great job with name spelling today :P
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm aware of this...I just found it amusing at the time.
ReplyDeleteI haven´t watched Lost yet ;) so maybe that explains it ^^
ReplyDeleteWhen the polls get closed it just shows the number of thousands (whenever the number of votes get over 1000), I don't know why. I believe Dean got 7051 votes and Barney 6926.
ReplyDeleteIt's Michael WESTEN not WesteRn
ReplyDeleteThe total opposites to mine >:(!
ReplyDeleteWalter, Buffy (absolutely no competition there, even so I love True Blood), Chuck and Phoebe
ReplyDelete- Benjamin Linus
ReplyDelete- Sookie Stackhouse (whoever that is D:)
- Michael Westen
- Juliet Burke
Yeah, seems like it. Some people simply like Ben (me). ;D
ReplyDeleteThere is still enough time for Juliet to win.
ReplyDeletelol the choice between Sookie and Buffy isn't one hard to make ! Buffy FTW
ReplyDeleteThat's though, I love Ben and Walter but I think I will go with Ben since I'm not the biggest Fringe fan.
ReplyDeleteMy other votes go to Buffy and Juliet. I don't watch GG or Burn Notice.
Phoebe over Juliet? What? I know it's early, but seriously can't see it ending that way.
ReplyDeleteBen is a far more compelling character than Walter. Sorry. It is still really close, though.
ReplyDeleteGod it's close between Ben and Walter! Had to go for Ben, was a tough decision though!
ReplyDeleteIt's Michael Westen, not Western.
ReplyDeleteMy votes for Ben, Buffy, Chuck and Juliet.
ReplyDeleteHa yep :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm sure a lot of people use a couple of extra PC to vote more
than once etc ;)
It's extremely hard to cheat these polls. You have to clear cookies as
ReplyDeletewell as change your IP Address.
Most of the large swings happen when the various online fandoms are
alerted to a poll that affects their show and they suddenly place the
poll on their site and/or tweet it out to their followers. It's not
unknown that 500/600 hundreds of votes to happen in a few minutues.
Is it possible to cheat on those games?
ReplyDeleteI really don't know. I can only vote once.
But the results change so fast. I have the feeling some people are able to cheat. Buffy was winning easily, then she suddenly was losing. Weird.
If the results weren't showed, maybe things would be different.
Maybe you shouldn't show the results. Just after the poll is closed.
What's up with the Dean vs. Barney votes? It says that it was Dean at 7 votes and Barney at 6, but that's not right in the slightest.
ReplyDeleteBen, Buffy, Michael and Phoebe :) No contest!
ReplyDeleteThat makes a whole lot more sense! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteChuck
ReplyDeleteBen
Buffy
Honestly, I just want Walter to win this whole thing. Love Ben Linus' character but in just 2 seasons Walter has become my favorite character of any show I've ever watched...
ReplyDeletelol it seems like everyone has that one show that they are just gonna vote against from the last competition (*coughsupernaturalisabigtargetcough*) I guess it just comes with the ability to share our opinions.
ReplyDeleteHey, sorry it's taken me so long to confirm why the number is apparently unclear. What happens is that on my polldaddy account the polls closed at 7:00pm, but it takes a few minutes for that to register on the embedded link over here, so the 7 and 6 are the votes that were voted in that time frame and weren't included in the final result.
ReplyDeleteDean got: 7106
Barney got: 6929
The total was 14,035
Hope that makes more sense. It's annoying that the embedded link looks wrong, but I can screencap if needs be in the future. Whatever the case, Dean made it though....And now he is through, he's gotta be hot favourite for the title.
The poll match up yesterday was insane. And this is only the first round.
ReplyDeleteBUFFY SUMMERS. Without a doubt. She's my favourite female character in this competition.
ReplyDeleteBEN and JULIET FTW!
ReplyDeleteWalter is great. But I can't see him beating Ben. Michael Emerson oozes class in the role, and was one of the stand out characters of the whole series.
ReplyDeleteBoo!
ReplyDeleteJuliet Burke and Benjamin Linus FTW!
ReplyDeletejules should win :) not phoebe
ReplyDelete"Far more compelling"
ReplyDelete...disagree. I find them both incredibly compelling.
He's on the last day of Round one, which will be Sunday or Monday depending on whether I have to take a day out when I'm travelling to America, but hopefully Sunday!.
ReplyDeleteHe's playing...Sheldon Cooper, from 'The Big Bang Theory'.
What?! Are you serious?! I love Lost but Phoebe is AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you gave up after Season 2. Ben's brilliant beyond this point. Juliet's alright, I never warmed to her as much as others. But I'm a huge Jack fan, and I like Locke most of the times.
ReplyDeleteFor me Sayid was the one character who got progressively worse, and he was useless in Season 6. Hurley is brilliant, but didn't get the votes unfortunately.
Ha lol. I did that once for one of the Lost cups a couple of years ago lol
ReplyDelete
