Winners (Day 1)
Fox Mulder, Sun Hwa Kwon, Dean Winchester & Veronica Mars.
And talk about a start to the competition, where we have had a huge amount of votes rivalling the very latter stages of the Best Show competition. It seems that Supernatural has maintained all the support it had to beat LOST in the semi-finals, and at the time of writing (1617 bst), is inching ever closer to pulling off one of the great comebacks. When I woke this morning it was over 2,500 votes behind, and whether it manages to catch up or not, it will have been a mighty performance. Speaking of mighty performances, Barney fans can be mighty impressed with how hard it has taken one of the competition favourites. #The Update is that Dean won the tie, taking the lead 16 minutes before the round closed. It was a crushing blow for Barney fans and a sign of how strong the supernatural characters are in the competition, and very harsh on Barney who led for the remaining 23 and 3/4 hours. In the other matches, Fox Mulder, Sun Hwa Kwon and Veronica Mars won fairly easily despite early troubles from Derek Shepherd (for Fox) and Blair Waldorf (for Sun). That also means LOST, which had the most characters nominated into the final 64 gets one of, on-paper, the weaker characters through.

Today we have some blinding ties, with Benjamin Linus kicking us off against Walter Bishop. The genius of Michael Emerson was that he made a character introduced in the latter stages of 'LOST's second season so important that by the end of the shows run I could not imagine the show without him, and Ben is truly a work of a master at his art. Does this give him the edge over Walter Bishop, 'Fringe's mad professor, another brilliant work of art from John Noble. To see two such great characters against each other in round one is saddening, but the way the cookie crumbles. Also we have a character dying to dig her teeth into round one, Sookie Stackhouse from 'True Blood', taking on a woman eager to stop any vampires digging their teeth into anything, Buffy Summers. Also we have Chuck Bass, the second of 'Gossip Girl's entrants in the competition, taking on blacklisted spy Michael Westen of 'Burn Notice.' The final tie is cookie 'Friend' Pheobe Buffay taking on the most nominated character on the women's side of the draw, and second 'LOST' character of the day, Juliet Burke.

In advance, the voting window is 24 hours, and I have set closing times for the poll, but if they do not work, or they aren't set at any point in the competition, the poll will close when I check the votes myself. This is not at all due to cheating, it's due to the fact that I will be busy and so please let's avoid the torrent of abuse that the infamous Smallville vs. The Vampire Diaries produced :P
