True Blood - Episode 3.08 - Night On The Sun - Recap

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay but here is MattV with another True Blood recap and this episode was a real doosy.

First things first, we start off exactly where we left off last week: with Sookie screaming as she sees Bill standing over her at the hospital. This mini-episode ends when Sookie comes to her senses and is told by Jason that it was Bill's blood that saved her. Her mind in tact, Sookie kicks everyone out and then does the unthinkable. She breaks up with Bill. I never really understood why the vampires on True Blood cry tears of blood but for this moment I did. Bill seemed crushed when Sookie told him that they could not be together because they will never be able to live a normal life. And this was just in the first 2 minutes of the episode!

Next we fly over to Russell's palace where Russell and Eric have just returned from the magister disposing. Talbot is not very happy with Russell's behaviour and begins smashing all artifacts in sight, except the viking crown, which Eric manages to save. Talbot huffs off and we learn that the queen has been transferred to a room in Russell's mansion. Before Russell can continue to be evil he is interrupted by Debbie, who wants nothing more than revenge on Sookie for the death of Cooter. Eric tries to stop this by bringing up Sookie's "special abilities" and this only stops the king's thirst for a moment. While the king is off trying to calm down Talbot Eric makes a stop to the queen's quarters and grabs Sookie's cousin Hadley. He tells her to deliver a message to Sookie: that Russell is coming for her and that she shouldn't trust Bill.

Meanwhile at the casa de Arlene, Arlene has a dream that at first involves her, her unborn baby, and Terry. Unfortunately for Arlene this dream soon turns into a nightmare when Terry turns into Rene, the strangling serial killer from the first season. It is his baby after all so I guess he does have some hallucination parental rights. The nightmare ends with him going in to choke her and she wakes up screaming. It was only a dream...

Back at Bill's house, Bill is still an emotional wreck and barely says hello to Jessica before telling her that he is releasing her of his control and is no longer her maker. Bill is broken up over the breakup and doesn't want the added stress of having to raise a baby vampire. Jessica tells him that he can't just give up on her because Sookie broke up with him. He still has a lot to teach her about being a vampire. She loves Hoyt but has given him up, but you don't see her stopping being a vampire. Bill agrees and agrees to teach her how to fight werewolves, because you know werewolf attacks are really in this season.

At Sookie's house Jason tries to convince her to press assault charges against Bill but she can't bring herself to it. She knows Bill was just acting on instincts and couldn't control himself. Tara is very upset about this and storms upstairs, followed by Lafayette, while everyone seems to find an uneasy peace with her decision. Upstairs Lafayette manages to calm down Tara, who is still shaken about killing(?) Franklin, but it is only for a moment as she then has a vampire sex dream about him while she is taking a shower. Looks like even in death Franklin still has a grip on Tara. We see this explicitly when Sookie defends Bill while sun tanning with Tara and Tara has a major freak out and leaves. Oh Tara...

At Sam's house he and Tommy's homecoming is interrupted by Tommy's mother who has come to pick up their stuff. She agrees that Joe Lee is no good, but then asserts that she is his wife and Tommy is his son so they have to respect him. This can't be good...

Over at Lafayette we are treated with another surprise in the form of: Lafayette's mom! Yep the ole' crazy Mrs. Lafayette has escaped from her nursing home and is now at his house, crazy-ing it up! The actual good news is that this means Jesus will come over and get his mom and we will be treated to some more of their lovin'. Unfortunately for Jesus Lafayette's mom doesn't want to leave and takes out a kitchen knife to defend herself. Will she stab someone?.......Okay too much suspense, no one gets stabbed. Jesus works his magic and gets her to give away the knife, while at the same time telling Lafayette that he is powerful like his mom told him. I'm not really sure what that means but I hope it's more literal than figurative because I think we have enough powers on this show already.

Speaking of powers the enigma that is Crystal returns this week and gives us even more questions. We're already pretty sure that she isn't exactly human but I don't think she is a werewolf either. Perhaps a jackal? Luckily for Jason he doesn't have to look very far for Crystal as she comes right to his door, complete with a black eye from her now ex-fiance Felton. Score one for the Jason! After some sex Jason wisks Crystal away to the shower and then goes and gets his shotgun. He is going to have a little chit-chat with Crystal's dad.

Back at Merlottes we see Arlene hiring a new waitress to replace Jessica, who she very much dislikes. The waitress is hired almost as soon as she mentions that she is a single mom and her name is Holly. Anyone who has read the books knows that this has greater implications for the future for the True Blood future but I won't spoil it for you. Over at the bar Tara tries to restock True Blood but has another Franklin-vision and drops it all over her shoes. Methinks these issues are going to last for a while....

Back at Sookie's house Alcide has come over to tell her that he is going to stay in Bon Tempts for a while because Debbie has burnt down his sister's hair salon. Debbie be crazy. The two share a flirtatious hug that almost turns into a kiss but at the last moment doesn't. Luckily Sookie still loves Bill and isn't willing to throw that away. That might not be great news for Alcide, but at least it means he will be in the next couple of episodes!

Some quick scenes follow:

First we see Tommy and Sam at a packed Merlottes. Tommy starts acting out when he sees Hoyt and even challenges him to a fight. The fight would be incredibly strange considering the actor playing Tommy looks like he is a hobbit when he stands next to Hoyt. And to think it all started over Jessica.

Next Felton and Crystal's trashy dad come into the restaurant looking for Crystal who has mysteriously vanished. Man who would think that a woman who was just hit by her dirty fiance would run away. Crazy! Tommy comes in to try and fight and there is a moment of tension when Crystal's dad acknowledges them both as Shifters and leave a distinct smell that both Tommy and Sam are confused by. Well this confirms that they are not human! But they aren't Shifters or werewolves.....

Finally Hadley comes to visit Sookie and tells her the message that Eric gave her. She listens to the first part but doesn't believe the second part. I mean why should she trust Eric over Bill, considering Eric was the one who threw her under the bridge when she was kidnapped at Russell's mansion. With this message Sookie starts prepping her house for battle. It's on!

Back at Russell's Mansion war plans are being made as well for the assault on Sookie's house. Talbot is still being very bitchy and Eric offers to stay and watch him while Russell goes to Casa de Sookie. What is his angle this time?

Over at Hotshot Jason has driven to send a message to Crystal's dad and Felton. Shotgun in hand he walks around in search of anyone and runs into a naked hotshot resident eating a dead deer. What are these people? Finally Jason finds Crystal's dad and tells him that she is done with him and if he feels him. Crystal's dad smells him and cryptically says "Yeah, I feel you..." as he drives off....

In the final scene of the episode Russell arrives at Sookie's house with Debbie and two other werewolves are begins the fight. Luckily for Sookie Bill and Jessica are there and take down the two other werewolves, leaving Debbie for Sookie. The still vampire blood fueled Sookie and Debbie get into a brutal hand to hand fight while Bill confronts Russell and is beaten up. Fortunately for Sookie she finds a pair of scissors and cuts Debbie's face, causing her to run away. And Fortunately for Bill we flash over to Russell's mansion where Eric and Talbot are now having sex. Eric tells Talbot to get on his back and then takes out a stake and tells Talbot that, "Russell took his family, and now he is going to take his", before staking him and killing him.

This causes Russell to fly away in anguish and leaves Bill and Sookie to have some passionate make-up sex on her floor as the episode fades out...
