Psych- Season 5 premiere- Romeo and Juliet and Juliet- Recap

Hello, ladies and gentelman. I'm a fresh member and recapper here at the site. I've posted a Smallville article (which you are welcome to read) but this is my first actual recap, so cut me some slack ^^ OK, here goes. Oh, and naturaly, it contains SPOILERS for the ep. Don't say I didn't warn you.

(Oh, and i'm from Israel, so let me apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes.)

The Boys are Back!

So a few days ago, Psych, one of my favorite shows in the world, kicked off its 5th season with a super-sized premiere (6 extra minutes, people! 6!!). Overall, I think this was a very fun episode. The show had good premieres in all its seasons, but this is definitely the best one. So grab a pineapple, sit back and enjoy this quick overview of the ep.

The S4 finale recap was needed, because it's aftermath is seen in this ep (mostly its effect on Jules). I also liked they changed the year to 1990. Liam James and Carlos McCullers (youg Shawn and Gus) are getting older each year, so it only fits the years progress in the show as well.

Anyway, after the flashback, we get to see Shawn and Gus firing their new assistant (who had a bigger role in the ep than I expected) and Henry acclimating to his new job. If you remember, Shawn and Gus had an assistant at a past episode (back then it was a woman. A model, to be exact) but they let her go. That what happens when you give up a model, you get an asian dude instead ^^.

We then get zipped over to China Town (yes, apparently Santa Barbara has one) where a known chinese family is attending a festival, that has very exotic-fruit-ish decorations (hint, hint). During that festival, some ninja-dude summersaults over a fence, and sneaks up on the daughter of the chinese family. Now, I don't know about you, but after reading the ep title and since it wasn't seen that the girl resisted or something, I kinda figured out right then they're probably lovers.

Boom, boom, boom...awesome credits clip! (like always)

We find out that Jules wasn't in the station for a while. Shawn and Gus try to get hired on the case after some chit-chat with the Chinese father, whose name is Arthur Chang. (BTW, I had to look up that John Jingly reference, since I don't know that song) but get "case-blocked" by non other than Henry. As always, our boys decide to hire themselves, and go check out the girl's place where Shawn finds a clue,a counterfiet coin, using his glowing-objects-vision thing. Then it's revealed that Jules was transfered to City Hall, since she was kinda traumatized in the Yin case. Nice continuity. Jules helps the boys discover that the Chinese triads are behind the thing. Just as they leave, we see that they aren't the only ones concerned about Juliet. Lassie (who, in my opinion, should've gotten more screen time) also cares about his partner. I love those little moments where Lassiter shows that under his though exterior, he also has emotions. Oh, and i'm glad he grew the hair back. Looks better like this.

Shawn and Gus go ask their assistant, Ken, about the triads (and yes, guys, that's kinda racist :P ), and he sends them to a bar, where they locate and follow a triad member, only to get caught and taken to the big scary boss....Arthur Chang! They have another talk, this time about "criminal" activities. Afterwards, they go back to Ken, to identify a Dragon symbol they saw in a picture at Chang's office, and he tells them it's a martial arts studio.

Now, I this is where the episode steps up a notch. Shawn signs up for a lesson, but after the guy there tells them it's a lesson for kids only, Gus pretends to be Shawn's lawyer in what might be the funniest scene in the ep. After some "convincing", Shawn takes the lesson and decides his body has become a lethal machine.

The boys find out the triad's HQ is in the same building, and at night they literally break in there (Poor stunt double, that looks painful). They find a hooded man robbing the safe, and after he tries to escape only to be encountered by guards, there's a fight scene that's pretty awesome for a TV show. After some butt-kicking, the boys follow the hooded guy only to find him in a motel room with the girl, and realize that this isn't a kidnapping, but a forbidden love story.

But just when you thought it's all figured out, a photo of the girl tied up arrives. The confused boys once again seek Juliet's help, and find out that two of the Chinese dudes are actualy brothers- Sang Tan (Romeo) and Teno Tan (The baddie, which has a name that a cartoon character in a sun-tan commercial would probably use). Shawn realizes Teno kidnapped the girl in order to start a war, so he could outshine his brother and become the next-in-line to lead the triad. After some talks, charades and another use of Ken, they explain to the boyss' father what happened, but he's afraid to get involved (some bad-ass triad leader you are), so they take the job on themselves.

The guys find out the tied-up Bekki and Sang, but just then Teno arrives. Shawn does his psychic-plan-reveal thing, which pisses Teno off. He throws Shawn thruogh a wooden inside window into the Dojo, only to start another cool fighting scene, with a cool song in the background (Already got it from Itunes ^^). After some stick-swings and Matrix-style dodges, Teno finally surrenders to Shawn's rubber sword (Or is it Juliet's gun?). Then there's some Shawn-Henry and Shawn-Jules emotional talks, a Lassie comic reliefe, and the boys deciding where to eat Chinese food today. THE END.

Overall, this episodes was fantastic. Great way to open a season. I give it a 4.5/5, again because I really think Lassie had little screen time, but his few scenes were good. Those extra minutes just to add some takes were pretty pointless in my opinion, but still fun to watch.

That's it fot now, fans of delicious flavor! Here's to a great season 5 and to some more of my recaps (hoping you liked this one ^^)
