Friday Night Lights - Episode 4.11 - Injury List - Recap

Hey everybody, FNL is back. In the last episode Becky went through an abortion. The father, well almost father, Luke Cafferty is still hiding his injuries on the football field. By the end of the episode everybody's injuries are going to come out into the open. If you haven't seen the episode, Spoilers Ahead.

We start off with Coach Taylor trying to get his team ready for this week's opponent but everyone, especially Buddy, is looking ahead to playing the Dillon Panthers. When asked how the Coach is going to beat the panthers, he says we're going to take them on just like any other opponent. (But it seems he really doesn't have the answer.)

Meanwhile Vince is back with his old street crew, up to no good. We see them beating a guy up when he doesn't have their money. Vince looks on wide-eyed. Vince asks how long he has to do this. His 'friend' says I'll let you know when your debt is paid up. Vince made a deal with the devil and there's no way out. Later, Vince is told that they're going to meet up after Friday night's game.


Luke's mom pays Becky a visit and she apologizes for not being able to be there for her. Then she asks Becky if she has a few minutes to tell her what happened so she could understand better. Becky says sure.

Then Luke's mom gets it in her head that Principal Taylor advised Becky to have an abortion. She files a complaint with the school and Principal Taylor is brought up before the review board; her job is on the line.

We get a nice surprise when we see Matt Sorensen in Chicago making a new life for himself. He calls up Julie but she doesn't want to talk. Later, he tries again and he apologizes for leaving without a word. He says that his life in Chicago is going well, but there's still something missing (Julie.) Julie, still angry, just tells him whatever is missing in his life he needs to go find it, elsewhere.

Luke is looking for relief from his bruised hip. He's finished all the medication he's got so far and goes back to the pharmacy for a refill. The pharmacist says that I just filled these last week and I can't give you anymore. Luke gets so desperate that he goes down to the infamous Carroll Park and tries to buy some Oxycontin from some of the drug dealers, but no one will sell to him, thinking he's a cop.


Tim, with the money he made from the chop shop, buys the land he always wanted. And to celebrate he takes Becky and her mom out for dinner. A little tipsy from the night's celebration, Becky's mom comes on to Tim and he turns her down. So then the next night Becky invites Tim to watch a video. Becky falls asleep next to Tim and Becky's mom comes home from work and sees this. She throws a fit (the fact that Tim turned her down definitely fueled her fire.) She kicks Tim out and calls him no good and good for nothing. Tim says "I never touched your daughter" then hops in his truck and leaves.

Principal Taylor makes her case in front of the board. She tells the board that she's a certified counselor and principal and that she didn't inappropriately advise Becky to get an abortion. She tells them let her know what they decide and she picks up her stuff and leaves.


In the game, Luke takes a hard hit to his side and he's hurt; you can hear him wincing in pain... everybody in the stadium is silent. On the sideline Coach ask him what's wrong and he shows the nasty bruise on his hip and admits to playing hurt. Coach flips: You were hurt for 4 weeks and you didn't tell anyone! The assistant coach says that he's hurt pretty bad; he's done for the season. They end up losing the game.


Becky visits Tim to make sure he knows what her mom said to him wasn't true. She says that he protected her from her dad, drove 3 hours all the way to that crappy pageant, and helped her through the hardest thing she ever had to go through in her life (her abortion), so she wanted to thank him for that. She hugs him. "Goodbye Tim Riggins."

After the game, Vince is with his boys again. He waits in the car as they go and collect the money, but things go bad. Vince hears a shout and he sees them running towards the car with people shooting at them. One of his friends, Cal gets hit in the back. The other guy tells Vince drive away before we get shot too. Vince speeds off; Cal is left with his face in the dirt, dead.

Principal Taylor gets good news, the board found in her favor, 5-1. So she gets to keep her job, but she gets a phone call from a reporter asking for a comment on advising Becky to have an abortion. She has nothing to say. (guess we'll be seeing a bunch of angry parents next week.)

Jess sees Vince waiting outside her house; he's crouched down on the curb and he looks like he's in shock. He tells her Cal is dead. She holds him and he starts crying. End of episode.
