Previously on Friday Night Lights: we see Principal Taylor rebuff Glenn when he tries to kiss her; Luke Cafferty asking Becky to go with him to get his car washed; Coach Taylor questioning Vince "do you have a gun or not?" and we cut to Vince handing a paper bag with a gun to the Coach; Tim Riggins and Becky kissing.
We open on Coach Taylor knocking on a door. He asks the young girl who opens it if she's seen one of his players, Dallas. She says look for him at Carroll Park.
Vince sits at a Deli counter filling out an employment application. He hesitates at the question: have you ever been arrested, but he writes down his answer. Yes.
Cut to Becky, teary-eyed and frantic, talking to her mom on the phone. She asks her mom how accurate are her pregnancy tests?
Back in the Deli, the counter lady tells Vince we'll call if there's an opening. Vince asks her about the interview, but she says she's not ready to make a decision; we'll keep your application on file. (I think his answer to the jail question had something to do with that.)
Carroll Park at night, Coach pulls up. As he walks in we see lots of people hanging out near their cars, smoking, loud music. Coach walks up to a few guys and asks about Dallas and lets just say they're not helpful. Out of nowhere, Gun Shots ring out; someone is shooting in the park. Everybody runs for cover... two cop cars with lights blazing pull up. When the dust settles on the scene we see a small kid on the floor with a gun shot wound to the shoulder. He can't be older than ten.
-Opening Credits-
The Taylor home, Julie asks where's dad and mom (Principal Tami Taylor) explains he's at the precinct. She asks if Julie's ready for volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity; Julie yawns.
Cut to Precinct, Coach talks with a detective. Coach tells the detective he's concerned about the dangerous park and he has players on his football team that live in the area.
Becky bumps into Tim, who is just coming out of the shower. They have an awkward back and forth. Becky walks away and heads to her room.
Glenn surprises Coach with a visit. He apologizes for trying to kiss his wife, but Coach doesn't know what he's talking about. So Glenn continues on and explains the events of that night (Faculty celebrating Academic award at Karaoke bar and at the end of the night Glenn tries to kiss Principal Taylor) and the Coach looks on stoically. Coach says, "OK". Glenn says I'll see you around and leaves. Coach replies with some menace, "I'll see you sooner than that."
Principal Taylor talks about JD (Panther starting quarterback) with his father. He called one of his teachers 'a bitch' and is going to be suspended. His father surprisingly agrees with the punishment and explains JD is upset because he's divorcing his wife.
At practice, the team stretches while Coach talks with Buddy about getting Carroll park cleaned up. Coach asks Buddy to talk with the mayor.
At the Habitat for Humanity house, Julie is busy tiling a floor. Ryan, her supervisor, comes over and say she's doing a good job tiling, but she's tiling the closet instead of the bathroom. Julie tries to explain that she has so many things going on in her life that she totally spaced. Ryan reassures her and gives her a hand picking up the tile.
Coach's Office, Vince walks in and asks Coach if he could use him as a reference on job applications. He also asks Coach to help him find a job. Coach says yes.
Outside school, Becky pulls Luke aside and tells him that she's pregnant and that its his baby. She tells him an abortion costs $300; She has half but needs the rest. Luke, although shocked, is supportive and says that he has some money. "Please don't tell anyone, please," Becky says and then walks away.
Taylor home, Coach and Principal Taylor are laying in bed. Coach playfully brings up Glenn and the kiss. She asks if he hit Glenn; Coach says no and says he isn't worried about Glenn.
Principal Taylor asks if Coach heard about JD's parents getting a divorce. He says he hasn't and then she says that they need to go on a Date together, to rekindle things a bit.
Ray's Barbecue, Buddy walks in and says hello to Virgil, who, seeing Buddy dressed up, asks if he's coming back from prom. Buddy says he's coming back from the Mayor's office asking for help with Carroll Park. After calling Buddy an idiot for trying to change things he tells Buddy he knows a person who can talk to those kids, an ex-gang member named Elden.
In Landry's car, Landry and Jess are lip locked in a long kiss. Jess tells Landry meet her after work tomorrow night so they can continue.
Habitat for Humanity house, Ryan asks Julie if she wants to get some lunch. Julie says no and then admits she's still heart-broken from her last breakup. Ryan says he understands. Julie then says instead of going to lunch what if we just lived in the moment and kissed (yes, she actually says that). Ryan says, "That would be Okay" and they have a make-out session.
The Taylors are about to have their 'Date', a nice candle-light dinner at home, but Coach has to ask for a rain check when he gets a phone call from Buddy about meeting Elden.
Virgil, Buddy, and Coach knock on Elden's door and they talk inside. Elden is pretty upfront, he says there's a lot more wrong with Carroll Park than just the lights not working. Buddy suggests a football game between the Lions and the kids at the park. Virgil likes the idea and the Coach, not a fan at first, comes around to it.
At practice, Coach explains that the Carroll Park game is voluntary; you don't have to play if you don't want to. Coach pulls Vince aside and says that he's got a job for him over at Ray's Barbecue... Vince says that's not the kind of job he was looking for.
Ray's Barbecue, Virgil, Jess's father, lays down the law to Vince: be on time, work hard, don't jaw with the guys, accept compliments on your game, or whatever, kindly and then get back to work. Last thing, stay away from my daughter. I'm not going to remind you about that last one. Virgil then sends him to the back to get an apron.
Principal Taylor visits Julie at the Habitat for Humanity House. Seeing the way that she interacts with Ryan, how playful they are "no wonder you're having a good time," she says to Julie.
Cut to Ray's Barbecue, Vince is cleaning a toilet bowl (there's that toilet motif again). Jess walks over and tells him to make sure he does it right, because she doesn't want to clean up after him, if he doesn't.
Jess stomps outside the BBQ and slams the door behind her. Her father is sitting at one of the benches outside. She questions why is Vince working here. He says, "I'm doing a favor for someone." "Can you do me a favor and send him home?" Jess talks a bit about how rough a time she had with Vince when they were together. He says that he trusts that she can take care of herself and make smart choices.
Cut to Tim knocking on Becky's door. No answer. Tim continues knocking, annoyingly. Becky comes out and Tim wants to clear the air because she's been acting weird and he knows its because of the kiss. Tim calls the kiss a mistake and says it'll never happen again. Becky, looking like she's about to cry, says Thanks and slams the door. Tim is left in the hallway looking confused: "Somehow I think we're not cool."
Ray's barbecue, Jess is closing up for the night. Vince shows up saying he forgot his jacket. On his way back out, he softly bumps into Jess and they stare at each other with plenty of sexual tension, but Jess shows him the door. Moments later, as Vince is walking away Landry pulls up. He says hi to Vince, but Vince just looks at him. Landry knocks on the door and Jess pulls him inside. Before closing the door, Jess shoots Vince a look that says 'see what you're missing?'
Becky and Luke talk about the baby. Luke asks Becky if she's sure about the abortion. He tells her he hasn't been able to sleep and that he's worried about her and that this decision is something we both have to live with. For a second it looks like she's changing her mind but she just says take me home.
Outside Rays Barbecue, one of Vince's old street friends, Cal, pulls up in a car. One of the guys in the car expects to get some free food, but Vince tells him to go in and get the food like everybody else. Things get heated and thankfully Virgil comes out and says that we're closing early. Cal tells his guys to get back in the car. Cal looks at Vince and shakes his head and they peel off. Virgil tells Vince he's better than them... "No, I'm not." Virgil replies, "You're here aint ya?"
Carroll Park, the night of the big game but the park is still dark and dreary. The lights aren't on. We see Coach pacing back and forth on the phone asking about the lights. Tami Taylor tells Coach says that there might be trouble when she sees some cars pull up and gang members step out. Coach reassures her its just the team we're playing tonight.
Still looking to fix the lights, Elden tells the Coach that the switch box for the lights is nearby but its padlocked. Coach asks Elden if he has any ideas about that padlock.
Cut to over at the switch box, Virgil laughs as the Coach climbs over the fence. They hand coach some big wire cutters.
On the Carroll Park field, Landry walks up and says hey to everybody and to Vince; still Vince gives him that silent stare again. Landry says he knows that he has history with Jess and if there's something that he needs to say or do, let's just get it over with.
Back at the switch box, Coach clips off the padlock and lets Elden do the honors of throwing the switch...
Carroll Park lights up and its beautiful. Everyone cheers and claps.
Cut back to Vince still staring at Landry; Vince then nods his head a couple of times as if to say "OK" and taps Landry on the chest. "What does that mean?" Landry says as Vince walks away.
Carroll Park football field, the two teams are lined up. Elden, also the coach of the other team, says If he sees any crap, the game will be called. Coach flips a coin; it comes up heads. Game time. "We got the lights on now lets have some fun," Coach says.
The Lions have the ball and some of the Carroll Park guys trash talk with Vince, "aren't you on the wrong side, homie?" The ball is snapped and Vince gets sacked. In the huddle Vince says that he knows these guys and that we can't back down from them. Vince and the Lions start playing better and they score a touchdown. The Carroll Park guys come right back with a looooonnnnng touchdown pass for a score. As the game continues on, Coach asks Elden the name of a Carroll Park kid whose playing well, Maurice. Coach calls Maurice over, "You want to play football for me next year?" "Yes, Coach." Elden and the Coach smile at each other. You get the feeling that a lot of good has come from getting these lights on.
Coach and his wife, Tami Taylor are driving. He tells her that hasn't forgotten about the rain check for their Date. Seeing something that looks familiar, Tami tells Coach to make a left. They pull up beside a beautiful lake. "Does this ring a bell?" Tami says. Coach isn't sure. Tami says this was our first 'date' (I think she means the first time they Expressed their love for each other.) Tami gives him a big kiss.
Becky knocks on Tim's door (his trailer home). Becky says that the kiss wasn't a mistake for her and that she was hurt when Tim called it that. Tim says he didn't know what else to say and that he doesn't want to ruin what they had before. Becky then confesses that she's pregnant and she's scared. Becky starts crying and Tim holds her, "you'll be fine."
