Day 11: Wow. Firefly, having battled it's way brilliantly into Round 2 with a stunning victory over 24, came nowhere close to pulling off another upset as Fringe also blew the whole competition into uncertainty. It scored a staggering 3892 votes, that is more than previous top overall poll The West Wing vs. LOST managed combined in their Round 1 tie. It's a staggering result, making Glee's total the day before look meagre in comparison. Also surprising is that Firefly lost over 1000 votes to it's Round 1 total. Wonder where they all were today, or maybe they all prefer Fringe. That sort of thing we probably won't find out, but it has sailed into Round 3 where it will take on The Wire, which ended fairly comfortably The Mentalist's run in the competition, failing to show the promise it did against Buffy in Round 1. It's becoming quite common that a certain poll gets a lot more that another on running on the same day, and yesterday was no exception, the Fringe poll earning around 3500 votes more. So people, don't forget we have two polls a day in separate posts :)
Today we have another two of the big favourites for the overall tournament competing, here through Dexter, the acclaimed thriller-drama about serial killer/blood splatter analyst Dexter Morgan taking on Gilmore Girls, as well as shock winner over The Sopranos, Smallville taking on Stargate SG1, one of the more surprising entries through Round 1 over popular Breaking Bad. Dexter performed well in Round 1, seeing off Bones, a very popular show a SpoilerTV, so is probably seen as a favourite, but that means little as has been proven so often. For Smallville to see off one of the true greats of modern TV in The Sopranos, it shows it stands a great chance of success, but science-fiction space military Stargate SG1 has loyal fan-bases eager to pull off another shock and push their show on towards the Best Show title. Let the battles commence.

Fan Review: Water Bug
Anyone who understands the appeal of small town life will be able to relate to Gilmore Girls. Set in fictional Stars Hollow Connecticut, the show's action and characters often mimic what is best about the little burg: charm and quirkiness. The main characters epitomize the notions of confidence and embracing one's self, and the secondary characters are the very definition of eccentricity. As to the story, any number of unlikely and amusing events influence the characters to deal with issues of familial relationships and being part of a community. The show is relatable, as well. Most people can understand the need to find a place to belong that was ultimately the driving force leading to the situation that the characters are in at the beginning of the show. Throughout the course of its seven seasons, Gilmore Girls dealt with similarily identifiable incidents of disapproving parents, growing up, developing one's identity, tricky relationships, and risky life ventures. Of course, the show never seemed to take itself too seriously and almost always had an unconventional side-story or two. And that's all without mentioning the shows quick-witted, fast-talking, pop culture reference riddled discourse!
