Sketch comedy shows are often hit-or-miss and "The Whitest Kids U' Know" is no exception. This quirky comedy troupe from New York City has endured a typically tumultuous rise to the middle and unflinchingly grasps further up the ladder as the years pass.
In 2007 - after a less-than-desirable response from the public - the show was denied renewal on Fuse TV, a cable network on which the show received it's first real taste of notoriety. However, shortly after this blow, WKUK quickly rebounded and procured a time slot in it's new home, the Independent Film Channel. This was a coveted position for the troupe as it's new home at IFC offered both commercially uninterrupted shows and an uncensored format that plays quite well with WKUK's uninhibited and often vulgar flavor of comedy. They filmed and aired two more seasons while airing uncensored versions of the first and the time has come for the fourth and most anticipated season yet.
WKUK not only has a certain flare for comedy but they also have shown a certain intelligence and self-awareness within their sketches involving moral and political aspects. One sketch involves a couple of mischievous boys throwing various items from the back of their school bus. The buss driver gives them stern looks but never reprimands them. It is only when the two boys begin seriously discussing and expressing opinions of the political state in which they live that the driver stops the bus and begins yelling at them.
This, among other aspects of the show, is what makes WKUK stand out from the slew of comedy troupes that strive for a voice in this overly competitive market. They have a message, and on June 11th at 10pm eastern time the world will get it's next dose of comedy interspersed with deep thought, moral dilemma, and political action. Also, there will be dick&fart jokes.
