When we last parted ways with Bon Temps, Sookie had fired a shot at an invading werewolf. Did she hit her target? Was Eric able to save her? Is Bill still being held captive by The King of Mississippi? Let's catch up inside, but be warned, like always, if you haven't watched yet, this is filled with detail and loaded with spoilers.

We open where we left off, with Sookie's bullet, in Matrix-time, flying through Gram's living room. Eric leaps in front of the bullet to prevent the death of the werewolf, hoping to gain information from him. Upon seeing Eric's blood, the wolf transforms back to human, and Sookie can hear his thoughts, excitement over the now present V flowing from Eric's chest. Eric holds the wolf off him, trying to get answers from him. He chokes him until he struggles for air, and when he lets him loose, the wolf immediately makes a bee-line for the Eric's blood. Eric lets him drink a bit before tossing him aside violently. Eric tackles the werewolf, and as he tries to get information about who he works for out of him, Sookie hears him mention Jackson. The wolf tells Eric if he tells him, he's as good as dead, so he might as well kill him. Eric brushes his hair aside, sees he carries the same brand as the others, and proceeds to bite down on his neck and rip a large piece of flesh off him. As blood flows out from his neck all over the living room floor, Eric apologizes to Sookie for "getting her rug all wet."

♫ I Wanna do Bad Things to you... ♫

A smoking Lorena tells those gathered it is alright, she will heal in a moment. Talbot is upset over the destruction of a Celtic Tapestry that was a gift from Lord Glyndyfrdwy in 1387. Russel, The King, is none too concerned over the damage, he's sure a few strategically placed planters can hide the charring. Talbot is a bit upset, but none the worse for wear. Lorena looks like she took a nap in a fireplace. The King excuses everyone so he can talk to Bill. He lets Bill know that in Mississippi, they have little tolerance for unprovoked violence. He tells Bill that Lorena is the one that recommended him for the job he has offered him. The King offers Bill a seat and discusses with him the intricacies of vampire love. He asks Bill if he truly loves Sookie, and if so, why he doesn't turn her, like he turned Talbot. Spending eternity together is true commitment he muses. The King tells Bill that by turning her, she is immune to death, and from whatever actions he, as King, might chose to take upon her. The King reminds him, he can't have a healthy human and his desire to be with a human at the same time. He presses a finger against Bill's forehead and instructs him to sleep on it.

Sookie stands watching as Eric refills a recent grave. He tells her that they are a great place for disposing of a body, the ground is disturbed, so no one will think to look there. Sookie asks why Eric didn't try to keep him alive to question him longer, but supposes seeing the brand was what pushed him over the edge. Eric tells her that she is unaware of the power they have, especially after they have drank some V; they become very powerful, even for him. She asks about his bullet wound, and he tells her it would have healed quicker, and she cuts him off, knowing he is implying him drinking more of her blood. She tells him it is not likely to happen again. They reset the grave and walk homewards. Sookie asks Eric about Jackson, if the name means anything to him. He tells her Jackson is a where, not a who, as in Mississippi; evidenced by his accent. She implores that they go that moment, but he tells her he cannot, and she shouldn't go either, as the werewolves are looking for her. Eric tells her that leaving now would get them to Jackson by morning, and searching for a missing vampire in sunlight would be pretty stupid. She knows Bill would come looking for her, so she needs to go looking for him. She tells him he that she will leave the following day, and asks if she is in trouble, would he still feel it. He agrees that he would, but doesn't think he would be able to make it to Mississippi in time to help her. He tells her to be safe, as she is valuable to more than just Bill.

Tara lies in bed being ravished by Franklin. Like, feral, animal, eye-rolling back in her head ravished. She shakes like an epileptic, and offers her neck to him to bite. He denies her neck, since she wants it, instead he turns her over to go at it again.

Sam walks in on Joe Lee and Tommy sitting on the couch. Joe Lee is wearing nothing but tighty-(at some point, they were)-whities with his arm resting on his son's leg, drinking a beer and watching Poker on TV. Joe Lee stands and adjusts his groin as he says he was surprised he is to see him back. He leaves to look for Ma, and Sam confronts Tommy over trying to get him killed. This is some sick sibling rivalry these two have going. Melinda comes into the living room with bedding for Sam to say the night. He tells them he is heading back to Bon Temps, and Melinda gets emotional on him, telling him to stay one more night. He pleads that he must go, and as he walks out, gives Tommy his keys, telling him he dropped them when changing... the oil.

Jason tells Hoyt that he plans on becoming a cop, and Hoyt has a hard time believing it. Jason tells him he is ready to protect and serve the people of Renard County. He has marksmanship and para-military training under his belt now, so why not him? He asks Hoyt if he'd feel safer with him or Andy patrolling the streets? Hoyt smirks at the question, confirming Jason's belief.

Tara lies in bed talking with Franklin post coitus. She claims she's never done this, and Franklin asks what part, one night stand, cheap motel or vampire? She admits to the cheap motel before, and questions why a vampire would even need one as they sleep in the ground. He tells her it so he has a place to share, like he did with her. Tara asks how they got where they were, in bed together; was it because they nearly killed two racist rednecks together? Franklin tells her that she did the beating, and would have killed them if he didn't stop her. He asks her about herself, about a husband or a boyfriend, and she jumps out of bed, realizing what she's done. He asks her name, which she denies giving him, but he introduces himself as Franklin. She tells him that knowing each other's names won't make them feel any less dirty. She leaves abruptly.

Back at Fangtasia, Yvetta sits on a desk in the throes of passion while the phone rings besides her. Pam comes up from between her thighs and answers the phone. Jessica is on the other end. Jessica tells her she is having problems with the situation they discussed the previous night. Jessica tells her that when she got home from getting the chainsaw, the body was missing. Pam asks her to clarify that, they her trying to get rid of the body has resulted in her returning home to no body in the house, and if so, what truly, is the problem? Jessica agrees and lets Pam go. Pam turns her attention back on Yvetta, "Lie back baby, and think of Estonia."

Back at Merlotte's, Sookie and Sam talk about Sam having a brother. Sookie asks him if he heard about the Eggs situation, and Sam says thankfully Bon Temps doesn't have any other bar options. Sam asks how long she'll be gone, and Sookie tells him 3 or 4 days. She asks him to look after Jessica while she's gone, to make sure she doesn't do anything... terrible. He says he'll watch out, but if Sookie doesn't return, Jessica is getting her job. As she hands Sam her keys, he notices and comments on her ring.

Hoyt sits at the computer, reading Jason questions from the practice exam. Jason answers with skip, pass, next one... Hoyt asks for some love advice with Jessica, and Jason says Hoyt is ruining his flow. Hoyt reminds him he is 0 for 22 on the questions, and so Jason gives him some advice. He tells him to move on to someone better, someone that can 'handle his heat.' Jason says that this is why each subsequent girlfriend of his is hotter than the prior. Jason tells Hoyt that there are 2 types of people in this world; people who got no dreams, people who got dreams but do nothing about it, and people who go out and fulfill their dreams. Jason admits to being the third kind, and he wants to know if Hoyt's going to help him with his dream of being a cop. He doubts Andy knows all the stuff on that test, he has the training he needs, and he's ready to go for it. Hoyt asks him if he wants to know the blood alcohol answer, and Jason says he doesn't need to know, because if it is on the sample test, it won't be on the real one. He grabs his keys and walks out the door.

Arlene visits the doctor, who performs some tests, confirming that she is pregnant. She tells the doctor that she and Terry haven't been together for that long, so the pregnancy wasn't expected. He tells her two or three months, from the look of the fetus. Arlene questions this, and he says 25mm in size means it is 9 or 10 weeks since conception. She goes white in the face.

A phone rings back at Merlotte's and Tara answers it. It is Mike Spencer calling her from the cemetery. He calls her to let her know that it is Eggs' funeral today, and thought she might want to be there. She tells him she's leaving now and to hold for her. She runs to the cemetery and approaches the grave. There isn't anyone there, and she questions where everyone is. Mike tells her that Eggs didn't have any people. Tara asks who paid for it, and Sookie steps from the trees and admits tells her that she did. She understands if Tara doesn't want her there, but she thought Eggs deserved a proper burial, and Tara deserved a place to go to be with Eggs to talk. Sookie invites Tara back to live with her, and lets he know she is off to Jackson for a few days, so she can have the place to herself. As the funeral service begins, the camera pulls back to show us the gravestone for Thomas Charles Compton, which dissolves away into a flashback.

It is 1868 and Bill Compton comes home across the cemetery field. He approaches his home, where candles burn late at night. He sniffs at a sponge sitting in water on the porch when the front door swings open; his wife is there, brandishing a gun. She asks him where he's been, the war ended three years ago, and she was sure he had perished. It is an emotional reunion, and his wife informs him she hasn't slept much since he left, and less still in recent days. He asks after his children, and learns that Sarah was sent off to Tennessee for her health, but Thomas was too young, and he has perished. She invites Bill in and he walks over to his son's casket. His wife tells him that the undertakers won't take anyone with the Pox, and she has resolved to bury him herself the following day. Bill takes a knee besides the coffin and talks to his son. This is emotional for him, and he sheds tears of blood. His wife sees the blood tears and freaks out. She asks him if he is infected, if he is demon, ghost or devil. She pulls the gun on him, and as he approaches her, she shoots a hole in his shoulder. As he walks towards her, the flesh regenerates. She runs, screaming, from the house. Lorena captures her on the porch and tells Bill she is more animal than human at this point, save for her blood. Bill tells Lorena he will not let her harm his wife. As Lorena looks Caroline in the eyes and apologizes for what she is about to do, Bill awakens with a start back at Russel's home. He tosses in the bed, and falls back asleep.

Jason sits in a classroom, attempting to take the test to become a police officer. As he looks at the test, it seems to be written in hieroglyphics. He walks to the front of the room with his paper, and asks Sheriff Bud for another test, as something is wrong with this one. Bud looks up at him, with a bullet hole in his forehead, and tells Jason there is something wrong with him. Jason is standing before the classroom, naked from the waist down. As he scans the classroom, everyone has a similar bullet hole on their foreheads. Lafayette's voice comes out of Bud's mouth "Jason, wake the fuck up!" Jason awakens, he had been sleeping in the cab of his truck. Lafayette is standing besides his truck waiting for a signature so the working members of the road crew can continue working on the other side of the road. Jason apologizes, telling him he has something on his mind. Lafayette quips that it must be new before going on a tear about keeping an eye on Tara, mopping up her tears and preventing her from hurting herself on anything sharp and pointy. Hoyt shouts out for help from a nearby ditch. He has come across a headless body.

Sookie returns home to Gram's house, and once again finds herself cleaning a mess. She hears some thoughts approaching from behind, and after turning to see where they are coming from, she runs into the house. The man follows her inside and wraps his arms around her. She screams out that she's had vampire blood and can kick his ass. He chuckles and tells her it is okay, Eric sent him. He introduces himself as Alcide Herveaux, and he is there to look after her.

The Mickers walk into Merlotte's, much to Sam's surprise and chagrin. They wondered what type of life he had back in Bon Temps, and decided to take a road trip to see what his life is all about. Joe Lee hoots and hollers about how nice the place is, and Sam says he's not fond of surprises, but welcomes them. He offers to buy them all lunch, whatever they want, and they all slide into a booth. Joe Lee tells Sam he always wanted a chicken shack of his own, some place he could call Micker's Chicken and Chitlins.

Back at the ditch with the body, Mike is taking photos of the crime scene while Kenya is reading Hoyt's statement back to Andy and Bud. Andy points out the hands and head are missing, and there is no blood remaining. He points out the wounds are more tear than cut, and speculates it might be a vampire. Bud quits. He's had it with this shit, every time they solve one murder, two more pop up, like crab-grass. Kenya tells him he needs to sign the report, and he tells them to sign it, as he struggles to remove his radio, gun and badge. He hands everything over to Andy, complaining that after 43 years all he has to show for it is gaps in his memory and polyps in his ass.

Alcide and Sookie sit in her kitchen, Alcide tests her mind-reading ability. He asks why Eric can't watch over her, if she's had his blood, and she explains that she isn't 'his.' She asks how Eric convinced him to help her out. He explains his father went to Eric for a loan. He tells her that he also know the packs she is asking about, and she'll need an in, otherwise there is no way she'd be able to get anything out of them. He explains they aren't quite friends, but he knows them, as his ex is sleeping with their leader. Alcide lets Sookie know that weres have lived in Jackson for 200 years without humans knowing, but this new pack comes to town and have left a mile-wide crime streak in their wake. He admits they aren't above violence, but they keep it quiet. He asks if Sookie can handle herself, and she says she can hold her own. He says she might get them both killed, so she agrees to pack light.

Lorena stands in Bill's living room, over the coffin of his son. Caroline asks Bill who Lorena is to him, a wife? He denies her being his wife. Caroline begs for Bill to kill her, but Lorena prevents him from doing so. She convinces Bill to glamor her into forgetting he was ever there. He makes Caroline forget, and then buries his son. Lorena tells him that the only way to show your love for a human is to stay away, forever. She asks him if he understands. Bill awakens once again, his face streaked with bloody tears.

Russel and Talbot sit in the parlor, as a werewolf addresses them. He tells them Johnson was his best man, but he is missing now. Talbot calls him dumb as a box of rocks, but corrects himself, as that is an insult to both rocks and boxes. Russel has Talbot bring the were a drink, and Talbot questions him, Zima, right? They discuss the disappearance, and Lorena says it must have been Eric Northman that got to the wolf. Russel needs enlightening, and she tells him that he is a Sheriff under Sophie Anne. Bill enters the parlor, and he admits that his service to Sophie Anne has been nothing but a source of suffering to him and the humans he lived amongst. He denounces his fealty, and pledges his loyalty to the Kingdom of Louisiana. He orders them to let the girl go, and Lorena says she was given his word. The King corrects her, saying he gave his word to Bill, and he intends to keep it.

Jason sits at the bar in Merlotte's talking with Tara. He tells her that she and Sookie are like sisters, and since Sookie is his sister, that makes Tara family to him. He tells her that is she needs someone to talk to, he is there for her, always. He apologizes for not being better to her, and for not being there when everything went down. His guilt escalates until he sees Tara with the same phantom bullet hole as he's been seeing everywhere. He gets up from the bar and takes a table.

Eric visits Lafayette late at night. The two discuss the V trade, and Lafayette says he needs more time to move the product. Eric gives Lafayette his car, apologizing for Pam, and saying his top seller deserved a little gift. He tells him he's going to sell it to him for $1 to avoid the gift tax, and of course Lafayette will be responsible for the insurance. He tells Lafayette that he is valuable; efficient, effective and discreet. He has a network of people with enormous amounts of expendable income. Lafayette says he doesn't need anymore money, but agrees to think about it. Eric walks away, telling Lafayette that he can owe him that $1.

Arlene and Terry have a fight in the kitchen. Terry thinks she is breaking up with him, and she tells him that isn't the case. She lets him know there is a baby coming, and he gets super excited. He tanks her for finally making his life have meaning. He hugs her and cries on her shoulder in joy. She can't tell him it is likely Rene's child.

Back in the dining room, Joe Lee collects a tray of shots from Tara at the bar and takes them to his table. Sam walks over and stops Joe Lee from feeding Tommy shots. Sam tells them he is underage, and can't be drinking in his bar. Joe Lee takes insult to him preventing him from letting his son drink. They leave the bar, and Melinda apologizes for her husband. He isn't bad when he's sober.

Franklin knocks on Jessica's door, and when she opens the door, he enters. She says she picked the wrong place to roost, and she bears her fangs; he replies in kind, and she tells him that vampires can't enter a home without an invite, and he corrects her. Vampires can't enter a HUMAN home without an invite, and this is a vampire's home, since the last human owner died over a year ago. She complains that nobody teaches her anything. He tells her not to worry, he just wants to talk. He tells her that he finds things that need finding, and asks if she knows anything that needs finding. She tells him Bill Compton, the owner of the house is missing. He presses her again, if she knows anyone else that is missing, and when she denies it again, he offers her the head from her first live feed. She freaks out, and he says she must know him. Her reply "No, it's a head, how do you expect me to react?" Franklin uses the head like a dummy, mouthing words with his face. She urges him to stop, and he drops the head to the floor. He tells her he helped her out, so she can return the favor. He asks her to tell him everything she knows about Bill Compton.

Jason comes home from the bar to find his police application on the kitchen counter. He lights the stove and burns his application.

Sam wakes in his bed to an alarm going off. He runs to see what set it off and after hearing some noises, opens a door to find a bird in his office. His papers are scattered and there is a trash bag and a discarded pair of jeans on the floor.

Alcide takes Sookie to a bar called Lou Pine's, the oldest were-bar in the area. The bartender eyes her up and down, and when she asked if she is dressed improperly, he tells her she looks like dinner. The two enter, and part ways. Sookie walks up to the gang Alcide pointed out to her, and begins flirting with them. She tells them she is thirsty, but she left her wallet at home. They look her over and tell her she came to the wrong place. She tells them she's been to Fangtasia, and they ask is she's a fangbanger. She tells them she thinks there is nothing meaner or stronger than a vampire. She reads the thoughts of Gus, the leader, as he says "if you knew we kicked the shit out of one a few nights ago, you'd be on your knees right quick." She tells him to tell her about it, and touches him. Visions of the men holding Bill in the speeding car and drinking his blood pop into her mind. He invites her into private, and she agrees to follow. He takes her to the back room. As he starts pawing at her, she asks if he can take her to a vampire. Gus tells her he has more vampire blood in him than she realizes, and she screams. Alcide comes to her rescue, breaking the two up. As the rest of the pack surround Alcide and start beating him, the bouncer breaks up the fight. He complains that he is going to run out of bats if they keep up the fighting. He tells Alcide that the girl isn't worth it. Alcide thinks he means Sookie, and says he's only just met her. The bouncer corrects him, telling him he meant Debbie, his ex. Alcide asks what he means, and is informed that Debbie is engaged to Coot, and they party will be at Lou Pine's the following night.

Franklin knocks on Sookie's door, knowing form Jessica that this is where Tara is staying. When she opens the door, he addresses her by name. He tells her that he knows she lives in the house of a human companion of Bill Compton. Franklin tries to enter, and Tara rebuffs his advances. He corrects her, telling her that he can get a hold of her anytime he wants, and she agrees before inviting him inside.

Back at Russel's home, Bill stands in his bedroom. Lenore enters his bedroom, wearing gloves to handle the silvered doors. She accuses Bill of having loyalty to his sentiment; his love for humans is his weakness. He blames her for teaching him about never loving humans because all it does is bring suffering upon them. Bill tells her that she deprived him of his humanity, and the he will never love her. She kisses him, and he throws her on the bed and bites her neck. As his maker, she tells him to make love to her, and he is compelled to follow her orders, but he will never love her. He aggressively mounts her, and he spins her head 180º on her body as he takes her. He refuses to make love to her, so we must assume this is making hate. She whispers "Bill, I so love you." Bill covers his face and screams in anguish.
