True Blood - Episode 3.03 - It Hurts Me Too - Recap

Another Sunday has passed and you know what that means: True Blood recap time with MattV!

Last weeks killer episode set up some great plot points for the rest of this season and in my opinion was far superior to the premiere. This week’s episode continued the set up and really had a lot to do with one thing: Very uncomfortable sex scenes. The last scene at the end with bill and Lorena was pretty eww, but more on that later it’s time to recap:

The episode started seconds after the end of the last with Sookie shooting her gun at the werewolf and Eric jumping in front of it to stop it. Apparently they need him alive so that he can tell them where Bill is, but something tells me Eric had some selfish reasons for taking a bullet to the stomach. After some fighting and drinking of Eric’s blood, Sookie manages to shoot the were in the leg and Eric pins him down. Eric asks him whom he is working for but it is Sookie who gets to answer, courtesy of her telepathy. She hears him say “Jackson” right before Eric spots his Operation Werewolf tattoo and kills him. So much for getting answers. Eric apologizes for getting blood on her carpet and they bury him outside. Sookie tells Eric about the whole “Jackson” situation and he seems convinced he meant Jackson, Mississippi. Both of them agree that Bill is in Mississippi, but Eric warns Sookie against trying to get him back alone. Walking alone into Mississippi to get Bill from a house guarded by werewolves and vampires=not a very smart idea for a human.

We cut back to the Russell estate where the flaming Lorena is being put out. Vampires heal super fast so the only real damage done is too the antique carpet that the fire was put out with, as Russell’s lover Talbot points out. After that little mess is cleaned up Russell and Bill have some alone time where he once again hints that Bill may be in Bon Temps on a mission from the queen. He denies it but not very well. Russell makes it clear that he wants Bill to drop all allegiance to the queen and join him and his quest. He also asks Bill why he hasn’t turned Sookie into a vampire yet. Russell tells him changing her would ensure eternal commitment and he wouldn’t want her getting hurt during what is about to happen when he takes over Louisiana. Wut woo.

Next we see Vampire Franklin and Tara sharing a graphic sex scene, which cumulates in Franklin baring his fangs and Tara telling him to go ahead and bite her. He doesn’t only because she wants him too, and that’s not how Franklin Mott rolls. Man I really hope this whole suicidal Tara story gets resolved or at least becomes less annoying very soon. Another annoyance comes in the form of Sam confronting Mickey and his trailer trash parents. Man, what a fun group of characters. Mickey really just comes across as a little jerk and the only semi-redeemable member of the family is Sam’s mother, who I suspect probably just wants some money. Also his dad’s an alcoholic.
A story line that is not boring is that of Jason, and his new quest to become a cop. I think Jason is a pretty fun character and I’m glad that they are actually having him do something and not just brushing him off to the side. We see Jason and buddy Hoyt studying up for the exam and it becomes pretty obvious that Jason doesn’t exactly have the “book smarts” necessary to be a police officer. Jason also is still having the little problem of seeing bullet holes in people’s heads anytime he thinks about how he shot Eggs. He even has a small dream sequence where he is in a classroom taking the police exam and he can’t finish it because he sees bullet holes in everyone’s heads and is also naked. Luckily for Jason, he is smacked out of this nightmare by Lafayette and then loudly by Hoyt who has found the missing, headless body of the truck driver Jessica accidentally killed in the first episode.

This episode we also get some nice little scenes with Arlene, Lafayette, Jessica, and Tara. We see Arlene at the gynecologist as she has her worst fears confirmed, she’s pregnant. This is only made worst by the fact that the fetus is 9-10 weeks old, meaning it isn’t Terry’s baby but serial killer from season one Rene’s baby. Later in the episode we see Arlene tell Terry that she is pregnant and gets him to be quiet/believe it is his all at the same time. Very sneaky Arlene. Lafayette shares a little scene with Eric where he tells him that even at half-price the V still isn’t selling. Eric tries to tempt him into becoming a more aggressive seller for him by giving him a gift of a new car. Who knew running a vampire bar gave you so much extra money? Jessica is still distraught from the end of last week’s episode, when she discovered that her dead trucker was now a disappeared dead trucker. Alone in Bill’s house and needing advice she calls up Pam, who is in the middle of some graphic lesbian vampire on human sex herself. And this isn’t even the worst one I promise you. Finally Tara has a nice little scene with Sookie where they both attend Egg’s funeral. Sookie reveals that she paid for his casket and service and as the two watch his casket lowered into the ground; they seem to make up for the fight they got in the previous episode.

Later in the episode we get treated to a nice little flashback of new vampire Bill, which shows us why he hates Lorena so much. We see 1868 Bill as he comes home to his wife and finds out that his son has died. She tries to comfort him but when she does she notices his ice-cold hands and that he is bleeding tears of blood. She knows something is wrong and that the man in her house is not the Bill she used to know. Lorena forces Bill to wipe his wife’s memory of him ever visiting her and then watches him as he tearfully buries his son. I really hope this season follows the third book and Lorena get’s what is coming to her.

This episode all serves as the introduction to a possible new love interest for Sookie, the werewolf Alcide Herveaux. Alcide is sent by Eric to look after Sookie during the day and take her to the local were-bar where she can hopefully find some information on where Bill is being kept. She does find one of the werewolves who was involved in his kidnapping but they are forced to leave before she can get an answer from him concerning Bill’s location.

The episode wraps up with Sam waking up to find one of office in Merlotte’s damaged and a shifter, presumably Tommy, flying away before he can catch him and find out what he wanted. The creepy Franklin Mott makes his rounds and reveals to Jessica that he was the one who took the trucker’s body and cut off his head. He did this to get her to tell him everything she knows about Bill Compton. Looks like Franklin and Russell may share some sort of connection! Franklin ends his rounds by using his vampire telepathy to force his way into Tara’s house. This does not look good for her.
The last scene of the episode is by far one of the strangest, most sexual, and grossest things I have seen on True Blood. We see Bill returning from his meeting with Russell and suddenly Lorena comes in and starts telling him that he is with her now and will never see Sookie again. Naturally this makes Bill mad but his anger cumulates in him twisting Lorena’s neck around backwards and then forcibly having sex with her, all to her pleasure. A very unnerving way to end an episode of any show, let alone True Blood.
