After a slow season, fans of Grey’s Anatomy definitely needed an exciting finale to prove that it is still one of the best shows on TV. Did it pull this off?
“Wow” - is about all I could say after the 2 hour finale which had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Shonda Rhymes proved she had definitely not lost her touch with the show!
The plot involved a gun-man going on a killing rampage around the hospital, killing off some of the Mercy-West characters (finally), the gun-man also shot Alex and Derek which put their lives on the line! At one point, we even though Derek had died, I certainly shed a tear after seeing how upset Meredith was. Meredith also found out she was pregnant, but lost the child (cruel I know).
There were some epic scenes. The first scene that made me go wow was when the gun-man shot his first victim, Reed. For fans who had read no spoilers, that scene would have certainly been a shocker. Another favourite scene was when the gun-man headed to the children’s ward where Arizona and Callie were treating a sick child. We really saw how brave Callie was during that scene (although I was hiding behind a cushion most the time). My final favourite scene was when Charles died in Bailey’s arms, sobs. We really saw a different side to Bailey, and amazing acting from Chandra Wilson there! It took me a while to recover from that scene!
The two hour blockbuster style show was certainly difficult to watch at times, we didn’t know who was next on the gun-mans list! It certainly had a blockbuster type feel to it. For me, this was some of the best acting, writing and directing I have ever seen on a TV show. Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) showed us what just a talented actress she is. She made us smile, laugh and cry during that episode so thumbs up to her.
Grey’s Anatomy certainly took the show to the next level and set a new standard for future season finales to follow. I watched the Desperate Housewives finale straight after and it didn’t even compare! For me, Grey’s Anatomy has proven why it deserves to be one of the biggest US TV dramas.
