Entourage is back, as season 7 premiered last night with the episode "Stunted." Let's discuss what happened character by character.
Vince - I'm not sure how much time has passed since the end of season 6, but Vince is back from filming the Ferrari movie in Italy, and he's already working on a new action film directed by Nick Cassavetes. After seeing a take of one of the stunts, Cassavetes is worried about using a stuntman in a future chase scene, and tells Vince he thinks he should do it himself. Despite doubts from everyone around him, Vince decides to do the stunt (with Cassavetes filming from inside the same car). When he lands the jump, the brakes fail and Vince crashes into part of the set. Although he tells everyone he's physically fine and willing to do another take, it's clear that he's shaken by what just happened.
E - Not much happening with E in this episode, other than trying to talk Vince out of doing the stunt. He even takes Ari's advice and calls the studio behind the director's back, but it makes no difference. We also find out that he and Sloan have set a date to be married in October.
Drama - He only has 8 weeks left on his holding deal and is still looking for a TV show. When he meets with producer Phil Yagoda, he tells Drama that the network doesn't want to pick up any of his shows. However, after talking to Lloyd and Ari, Drama learns that the network is making "The Fall Guy," they just don't think Drama is right for the role (or any of the others).
Turtle - His limo service is up and running, and looks to be very successful. However, one of his drivers, Alex, is constantly making mistakes (showing up late, forgetting her work shirt, getting lost downtown). When she loses her car in the airport parking lot, Turtle goes to help her find it, and tries to kiss her when he mistakenly thinks they have a moment together. This leads her to think he's only keeping her around in hopes of hooking up with her, and she promptly quits.
Ari - We see life for Ari as the head of "the biggest agency in the world" -unfortunately, none of his agents have any new deals to discuss. As Jake Steinberg, one of Ari's former assistants, walks by the meeting he tells Ari that the NFL is about to resell it's TV rights. Ari decides to throw off his current assistant and rehire Jake.
A couple quick thoughts on the episode - I'm sure it was for some kind of special effect to be added later, but I couldn't help but think of Charlie Kelly while watching random green men run around while Vince was filming. I've always loved the music on Entourage, and "Stunted" was no exception. The episode opened with the new single "Shutterbug" from Outkast's Big Boi, and closed with "Above the Clouds" by Gang Starr, two great hip hop songs to start the season. Finally, I've always considered Entourage to be one of the most enjoyable shows on TV. While it's not always filled with laughs ("Stunted" only had a few laugh out loud moments) and the story isn't always the best, the show is always fun to watch, and for a half hour on a Sunday summer night, that's exactly what I'm looking for.
