Martha Heath
60s. Nick's mother, Martha is a classic broad in the Broadway mold. A former actress on the Great White Way, she never made it nearly as big as she thinks she did. A woman whose makeup is overdone and whose love life is still fiercely active, Martha has moved in with Nick and likes to pass an unquiet evening by propping herself on the piano and singing numbers from "Oklahoma." Close to her granddaughter Alexis and her former daughter-in-law Gina, Martha is quietly worried about Nick's writer's block, afraid that the golden goose of the family has stopped laying golden eggs. Alexis Castle
15. The daughter of Nick and Gina, Alexis is a natural beauty, the kind of old soul more at home with adults than with kids her own age. More interested in her physics textbook than in makeup, Alexis is deeply worried about her dad's sudden inability to write, and wants to see her father acting "normally" again. Captain Montgomery
Mid 50s, African-American. Captain Montgomery is Kate Beckett's gruff but paternal boss. Expert at over-ruling her, Montgomery orders Kate to accept Nick Castle's offer of help, wanting to clear the case, and also perhaps wanting a prominent author to see the inner workings of his department. But later, when a suspect has been arrested, Montgomery is ready to declare victory and move on, and he's not pleased when Nick insists they have arrested the wrong guy. Series Regular.
