8th January 2019 - Project Shelved
I hear S.J. Clarkson was recruited by HBO for Game of Thrones prequel after she recently became available. Earlier this year, Clarkson was the first female director to be tapped to direct a Star Trek movie when she was hired to helm the fourth feature in the current series. That project has since been shelved.

10th August 2018 - Chris Pine & Chris Hemsworth's Star Trek Universe Future in Doubt as Talks Fall Through
Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth were in negotiations to star in Star Trek 4 but sources say that talks between the two actors and the companies making the new installment, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media, have fallen apart, with both sides walking away from the table.
Dealmaking with other returning castmembers — including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho — was expected to follow.
The deal points came down to the usual suspect: money. Pine and Hemsworth, among Hollywood’s A-list when starring in DC or Marvel movies, are said to be asking the studios to stick to existing deals. Paramount, according to insiders, contends that Trek is not like a Marvel or Star Wars movie and is trying to hold the line on a budget.
The actors, according to sources, insist they have deals in place and that the studios are reneging on them, forcing them to take pay cuts as they try to budget a movie that is following a mediocre performer.
12th July 2018 - Danai Gurira Circling Role
Sources say Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Walking Dead) is also circling the next Star Trek film at Paramount, the one that brought on S.J. Clarkson to become the first woman to helm a film in the vaunted Trek series. She directed the David Hare-scripted Collateral with Carey Mulligan starring for Netflix.

26th April 2018 - S.J. Clarkson in Talks to Direct
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount is deep in the hunt for a female director, a mandate that comes from the top, to helm Star Trek 4, the new installment of the rebooted film series that stars Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.
S.J. Clarkson, the woman who directed the pilot for Netflix’s acclaimed Marvel-based series Jessica Jones, is in talks to helm the new installment.
The studio does not have acting deals with the castmembers, which also include Simon Pegg, John Cho, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban. Fresh contracts would have to be drawn up, making the project pricey, but Star Trek is a crown jewel for Paramount.

Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that the studio was planning a fourth movie with Chris Hemsworth, who appeared as Chris Pine’s father in 2009’s “Star Trek.” Zachary Quinto is also set to return. Paramount is developing another “Star Trek” film from J.J. Abrams and Quentin Tarantino, but sources say it is still being written and would come after the fourth movie.
While details on “Star Trek 4” are vague, sources say a key plot point sees Pine’s character running into his father (Hemsworth) in a time travel ploy.

19th July 2016 - J.J. Abrams Won't Re-Cast Anton Yelchin's Role
“I would say there’s no replacing him,” Abrams told the Toronto Sun. “There’s no recasting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better.”
The late Anton Yelchin, who died June 19 in a freak accident, had played the Chekov character in the three reboots. The third film in the revamped franchise premieres on Wednesday at Comic-Con in San Diego and opens in theaters on Friday.
Abrams told the newspaper he could not disclose if the next “Star Trek” film would include the death of Chekov’s character. “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it,” he said.

18th July 2016 - 4th Installment Confirmed; Chris Hemsworth to Return
In the next installment of Star Trek, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father. The move has been rumored but never confirmed by the studio.
Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in 2009’s Star Trek, will return to the space saga as George Kirk to star alongside Pine.
The remaining cast also is expected to return with the exception of Anton Yelchin, who passed away last month and had played Chekov in the past three incarnations. No director has been named for the untitled fourth film.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay. J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce through Bad Robot Productions. David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance will executive produce.
