Blindspot - Lepers Repel - Season Finale - Review

The second season of Blindspot came to a thunderous end last Wednesday after a very up and down sophomore go around.

In 'Leper's Repel' the story moved at a breakneck speed. Picking up from where 'Mom' left off, Weller is stuck in the top secret bunker, but escapes with the help of CIA Agent Keaton in only just a couple of scenes. They then join the team to stop Shepherd's diabolical attack on Washington.

What followed were events that felt way too grand for what we had come to expect from Blindspot. The show took viewers to outer space, there was a nuclear weapon and satellites and big explosions. It was all very exciting, but Blindspot is at its best in its more personal moments, in particular when we get to see some hand to hand combat and shoot em up action.

The penultimate episode was chock full of the type of action Blindspot excels at, but for 'Leper's Repel' we only get one instance of this in the final showdown between Shepherd, Roman and Jane and Weller.

Watching Jane fight her brother was heartbreaking. It actually would have been more effective if Roman got the upper hand and, instead of killing his sister, he drops the gun and runs away. We know Jane loves Roman and would never harm him, but to reaffirm that Roman feels the same way would've added some emotional oomph to this scene.

Nevertheless, it is great to see Roman surviving. Luke Mitchell was the highlight of this season and more Roman in season 3 will be a huge plus.

Meanwhile, Shepherd is eventually detained and sent to the CIA. It was a surprise to see the return of Nas as she enters the torture chamber. If they do bring her back for next season, hopefully her character will be improved. Badass Nas was always a joy to see in the earlier part of this season, but we only got to see glimpses of it.

Nas being gone though allowed Weller to interact more with Jane, culminating in them making out at the end of 'Repel' to the delight of Jeller fans. This was followed by the time jump, which felt cheap. It would have been much more satisfying if the season ended organically, rather than randomly jumping two years into the future just so they can conclude on a buzz worthy note. It just came off as very rushed and unnecessary.

The season finale as a whole was a solid episode. They went big in the most grandest way possible, and it made for a tense viewing, albeit in an overkill kind of fashion. In addition, the cliffhanger, though a bit rushed, was a definite jaw-dropper that sets up next season quite intriguingly.
