Fans worldwide were shocked and saddened when Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance met an untimely demise last season on Arrow.
She’s since shown up in flashbacks on the show, and has voiced the character on CW Seed’s animated Vixen series. However, Cassidy’s about to return to Arrow in a big way…with a twist.
Warner Bros. Television today announced that Katie Cassidy will return to Arrow as the Black Siren for episodes #522 and #523 this season, and then continue in the same role as a series regular for Season Six.
Black Siren, you’ll recall, is Laurel’s evil Earth-2 counterpart. Cassidy has played this far edgier doppelganger twice before—the first time on Flash last season and the second earlier this year on Arrow. To say she inspires some complex feelings in Oliver Queen is putting it mildly!
Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim says, "One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren, though as her appearances on Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family."
