First Look at Madame Hydra
“Since we’re bringing back Hydra in the Framework, we thought we’d bring it back with a force to be reckoned with,” executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen tell EW. “Madame Hydra is a villain with the perfect combo of strength, sexy, and scary. We’ve thrown many challenges Mallory’s way and she’s always up for the task. We’re excited for fans to see how she makes Madame Hydra come to life.”
Madame Hydra — also known in Marvel comics as Viper — is the third role Jansen has portrayed on the show. Jansen was introduced in the season 4 premiere as Aida, a Life Model Decoy created by Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah). The LMD was based on a real person, Agnes Kitsworth, whom Jansen also portrayed this season. She was a terminally ill former love interest of Radcliffe’s.

How much time are you spending in the Framework versus seeing actual reality? Are we seeing both?
WHEDON: We’ll spend some time there. You will see both. How much time, we’ll leave up to you to discover, but we’ll be spending some time there for sure.
Is Brett Dalton really returning to S.H.I.E.L.D.?
TANCHAROEN: Yes, he is!
WHEDON: We figured when you get dropped into an alternate reality, what better way to show that it might not be everything you imagined than the return of one of our most loved and most hated characters. Also, we wanted to have Brett back. We missed him.
Have all the other LMDs really been destroyed after LMD May blew up the base?
WHEDON: We’ll see, but the idea was to put that chapter behind us.

This is a world that is up and running, so [Daisy and Jemma] are entering what Radcliffe and Aida thought was a duplicate of our world. Somehow, using the “magic” — but we know it’s actually hardcore science! — of the Darkhold, they were able to duplicate everything in our world. What that means, we’ll see develop, but we can tell from her reading that text and her reaction, she’s aware where she is, unlike some of the glimpses we got. She’s clearly aware that she’s in this alternate reality, whereas I don’t think anyone she encounters will be.
