30th January 2017 - GARY YOUNG CAST IN THE ROLE OF MR. WILLOUGHBY AND CHARLIE HIETT AS CAPTAIN LEONARD
A Chinese man with a deep knowledge of Eastern medicine, Mr. Willoughby is a talented poet in exile, with an even deeper love of women. Willoughby, a confidante of Jamie Fraser, speaks English well, but hides it when it suits him. He is even more of an outsider than Claire in 18th century Scotland.
New Zealand native Gary Young, a graduate of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in London and Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School, most recently appeared in the Netflix feature “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny” and the Australian miniseries “Secret City.” He also featured in “Xena: Warrior Princess,” “Power Rangers” and Jane Campion’s “Top of the Lake.”
Charlie Hiett joins the cast as the British Captain Thomas Leonard. Leonard is the inexperienced, by-the-book de facto captain of the Artemis. Promoted quickly due to the untimely deaths of his commanding officers, Leonard takes his job very seriously, though it weighs heavily on his young shoulders. A third lieutenant, he never thought he would be the captain of a man-of-war ship. Above all, he wants to do what is right by the British Navy -- whether or not it is right by his own personal morals.
Charlie Hiett trained at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has been a rising star since then with roles in Television and Theatre. Highlights include playing William Kent in “The Suspicions of Mr Whincher” on ITV and having roles in “Judge John Deed” and “M.I. High.” Theatre credits include playing Sandy Tyrell in “Hayfever” and Sebastian in “Twelfth Night.”
“Outlander” is based on Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books and adapted for television by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”). “Book Three” will be based on the third of eight books in the Outlander series, entitled Voyager.
The story picks up right after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: when they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?
Filming began for the 13-episode third season in August 2016 in Scotland and the production will move to South Africa in March 2017.
Diana Gabaldon’s eight-book series has sold more than 26 million copies worldwide and all eight books in the series have graced the New York Times best-sellers list. The “Outlander” series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure in one grandiose tale.

10th November - Hannah James & Tanya Reynolds Join Cast
The casting of new key characters continues as Book 3 of OUTLANDER films in Scotland. Starz, in association with Sony Pictures Television, announced today that Hannah James and Tanya Reynolds will play the Dunsany sisters 'Geneva' and 'Isobel,' respectively.
Eldest daughter Geneva is as beautiful as she is headstrong. Yet she's also petulant, spoiled and demanding of the servants at their home- Helwater. Geneva's accustomed to getting exactly what she wants when she wants it. Underneath however she has a vulnerability -- even a naiveté -- due to her sheltered life.
Geneva will be played by Hannah James who attended the Guildford School of Acting in England and received her BA Honors in Acting. She was signed with Bloomfields Welch Management in London during the spring of 2014 and became GSA's Spotlight Nominee for that graduating year's class. Several months later, she made the jump back across the pond to pursue her acting career in LA. After working with WME and Luber Roklin Management for three months, Hannah landed the role of Emma Green in "Mercy Street," coincidentally filmed in her home state, just an hour from her childhood home in Virginia.
Isobel, Geneva's younger sister, is warm, friendly and genuine. Though more plain than her sister, Isobel is inherently more likeable and compassionate towards others.
Tanya Reynolds, who will play Isobel, graduated from The Oxford School of Drama in 2015, and has since played a lead role in feature film Fanny Lye Deliver'd, opposite Maxine Peake and Charles Dance, set to be released next year. She has also just finished filming a lead role in a new drama for Sky One called Delicious, opposite Dawn French.
"Outlander" is based on Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books and adapted for television by Ronald D. Moore ("Battlestar Galactica," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: The Next Generation"). "Book Three" will be based on the third of eight books in the OUTLANDER series, entitled Voyager.

3rd October - Lauren Lyle Cast as Laoghaire's Daughter Marsali
Outlander has cast another pivotal role ahead of Season 3, tapping British newcomer Lauren Lyle to portray Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) high-spirited daughter Marsali, TVLine has learned.
The 18-year-old character, whose importance to the story grows as Diana Gabaldon’s books go on, has a rebellious and romantic mind of her own. She knows what she wants and she goes after it — reputation and propriety be damned.
Lyle’s credits include the UK series Broken, Holby City and Radges.

29th September 2016 - First Look Photos + Adult Fergus Cast
Remember the adorable Fergus, who played the pickpocketing French kid taken in by Jamie and Claire in season 2 of Outlander?
Good news, fans: the character will be back when the drama returns for a third season on Starz — and he’ll be a grown-up! EW has learned exclusively that César Domboy (The Walk) will take over the role when the story jumps ahead two decades in the new season.
Here’s the official description of his character from Starz: “Born into a brothel, Fergus has grown up into a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing. He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily. However, Fergus’ devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.”

20th September 2016 - Joe Abernathy cast
The Starz series has cast Wil Johnson (BBC One’s Waking the Dead) as Joe Abernathy, a good friend (and fellow doctor) of Claire’s in Boston, the network announced Tuesday.
Per the official character description: “Joe Abernathy is a fellow doctor-in-training whom Claire befriends in medical school. Intelligent, charismatic, with a wry and irreverent sense of humor, Joe is a loyal confidant with great affection for Claire. He puts on a good face, but he is all too aware of his place in the Civil Rights era. Joe and Claire both feel out of place in the mostly all-white, all-male medical field, which bonds them together in a life-long friendship.”

29th August 2016 - David Berry Cast as Lord John Grey
EW has learned exclusively that Starz has found the actor who will play the pivotal role of Lord John Grey in the third season of Outlander, premiering in 2017.
Australian actor David Berry will take over as Grey, the former British soldier-turned-Ardsmuir Prison governor who strikes up a dubious friendship with the incarcerated Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). The third season of Outlander will be based on Voyager, the third novel in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series that was published in 1993.
Here’s the official description of Lord Grey by Starz: “He’s a steadfast and honorable British subject, torn between a finely-honed sense of familial duty and a strong moral compass of right and wrong. He is boyishly handsome with an upper class rearing — the consummate gentleman. However, a scandal from his past has relegated Lord John to an undesirable position as governor of a desolate prison in Northern Scotland.”
The third season will pick up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank. Back in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other.
