Preacher 1.06: "Sundowner" - Review:

As the quotation above suggests, the sixth episode of Preacher is probably its best yet. Kicking off with an excellent, Fargo-like brawl at the Sundowner motel, we got to see what Angels were capable of as everything went to hell following Fiore & DeBlanc's killing of the Seraphim Angel who was after them. It turns out that the Seraphim was smart enough to track them down to the motel where she dispatched both Fiore & DeBlanc in quick succession, before turning her attention to Jesse, who we learnt doesn't actually have the will of God inside of him, but the will of Genesis, which is the result of a forbidden love between an Angel and a Demon. Jesse however remains reluctant to hand it over to both Fiore and DeBlanc, as well as the Seraphim.
For the moment, Fiore & DBlanc have a shared interest in taking out the Seraphim, but there's a problem, they can't simply kill her because she'd just come back to life and chase them down again, they have to restrain her. This makes the task all the more harder for them both but this time, Jesse is willing to fight alongside them and whilst he is no match for the Angel in combat he is able to land in a few blows as the bodies of all three keep piling up around the motel. I loved how the fight scene played out with the bodies stacking up around them in the small, enclosed space, and the way that they were all dispatched one by one. And the way that the unknowing Cassidy turned up towards the end of the brawl when they were restraining the Angel and walked in, killing her on the spot was just perfect as well, especially as his confused reaction to what was going on and the fact that he seems to think they're clones. His line about Genesis being the band was excellent as well, and the character proves to be a great source of comic relief for the series.
Jesse eventually ends up following the end of the brawl to use his voice to tell Fiore and DeBlanc that they can both never come near him again, because he really doesn't want to hand it over. I hope this doesn't mean the end for both Angels because they've been consistently among the best parts of the show so far, along with pretty much Cassidy, Tulip and of course Jesse himself, so I wouldn't be surprised if they found a way around the Word in the future, like maybe targeting one of Jesse's friends and getting him to come to them. Regardless of what happens though, I think the writers based on what we've seen so far, will be able to handle it well.
Eugene meanwhile has problems of his own with his new friends and thinks that they don't feel earned, because he knows that Jesse somehow was using his powers. He gets invited with a group of friends to see something good and although he's initially worried that it might be a trap, it turns out to be genuine. In response Eugene goes to Jesse and says that he believes that God wouldn't want it to be this way, but Jesse of course believes that it is God's will, and gets angrier, eventually telling Eugene to go to hell. And then we see the next shot of a burned body that turned out to be the cover-ups from Quincannon's murder spree in the previous episode.
