For once in this show, I actually saw the entire trap coming. The minute Agent Brewster walked on scene, I knew he was going to be involved in the betrayal somehow. He has that shady looking face, as opposed to Spike who looked like a puppy which shocked me. There was quite a bit of exposition with heavy and intelligent dialogue. Not that this is a bad thing, but I was really hoping for a touch more comic relief due to Part Two!! guaranteeing to not have much in the way of comedy with Brian suffering from side effects, and them dealing with the fallout from this betrayal. Also, calling it a "stunning" betrayal might've been a mistake, because I was expecting someone we know from the CJC to be the betrayer, which would've hit home the severity of their actions more. Nonetheless, the best part of the episode was by far that ending. I'll talk more about that later.
Before going any further, I need to mention the badassery of Naz Pouran in this episode. My goodness, she was running the whole damn show. She was fantastic, and I especially loved her scenes with Rebecca, and then with Rebecca and Boyle. My heart was soaring because we had the old team back together...minus one. I really did miss Brian in those scenes. But back to Naz, she was absolutely excellent, seeing her in charge was one of the best things about this episode for me. I like how sassy they originally were to this Brewster guy. She doesn't need this guy's help, really. They're doing great work on their own. However, Brian thinks they're going own the wrong path while looking for the supplier of the NZT. And there's this "Apocryphon" thing that Brian apparently wrote down weeks ago when he was still on NZT. Without it, he can't remember how he knew that was going to be a thing later on. You really felt like Brian kept running into corner after corner in this episode. He has those flashes of clarity while working, sure, but the whole time I was begging for him to get some NZT (preferably from Rebecca) so he can finally start to have an upper hand on things. Sure enough, he and Grover go to some frat party type thing where this teacher is handing out NZT to her students. Brian takes it a bit too eagerly, and then gets to work on making this model to figure out what or who Apocryphon is. He believes it's a person, but Rebecca isn't too keen to believe him. He took non-sactioned NZT after all, and who knows if it was laced with anything. When the CJC finds this Heisenberg-looking guy named Jacobi who claims to be the supplier, Brian takes a blow, thinking he was wrong. But he's later revealed to be right, upon further analysis and another 'free' dose of NZT. The CJC find these five people who they believe are Sands's Legion of Whom, but they couldn't be more wrong. Those five people are Morra's remaining workers for NZT, and Jacobi was a plant. And Brewster was Sands's in with the DEA. He breaks him out of prison, and they blow up the bus that had Morra's people on it. Pardon the pun, but that was quite the explosive ending, and was definitely my favourite scene of the episode. Watching Naz, Rebecca, Boyle, and Brian stare at the wreckage was haunting. The music choice in that scene was EXCELLENT. I will say I did miss Mike and Ike in this episode, although I'm not sure what they would've done aside from sitting in on Naz's meetings. Well, I cannot wait for next week now!
