Julie Plec, executive producer of The Vampire Diaries, said in a statement, “Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don’t think any of us ever expected. Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold. We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble.”
Plec also revealed that Michael Trevino, who has played Tyler Lockwood since Season 1, will not be returning to the show on a regular basis. “Michael has been a beloved member of The Vampire Diaries family since day one,” she said in the statement. “Even though he’s also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show.”

SHOCKED!
ReplyDeleteHeartbreaker or.............opportunity for Kat Graham and Candice Accola? Nobody 4 LATER!!!
ReplyDeleteSpoiler Alert
ReplyDeleteWOW. I thought the rumor was true and had my suspicion about her for a longer time but still, reading it confirmed like that... WOW.
ReplyDeleteNow we will have Bamon!!!
ReplyDeleteNo words can describe how truly sad I am right now for this show.
ReplyDeleteI guess now we know for sure where the cure is going
ReplyDeleteSo much for those naysayers this morning.
ReplyDeleteSeems to answer many questions, really. Like what will happen to delena...
ReplyDelete...kinda feel like it'd be better to just wrap up the show altogether then.
ReplyDeleteTwo things:
ReplyDelete1. I'm fine with this.
2. We probably know who our cure-taker is now.
And again, SpoilerTV was right!!!
ReplyDeletethere is a god in heaven. now we can have damon and bonnie keep forging their friendship without elena
ReplyDeleteFinally I understand why they bothered to bring the cure back, knowing most of the fans will hate it and call it lazy writing. It makes sense now - this was their only way how to get rid of Elena nicely enough, yet permanently.
ReplyDeleteWow!! Seeing it confirmed is quite shocking. I wonder what the ratings will look like next season.
ReplyDeleteWhich will mean basically all Vampire shows end with 7 seasons. Buffy ended at 7 and True Blood ended at 7. If VD ends at 7 that will mean the 3 main vampire shows have all ended at 7 seasons.
ReplyDeleteThat would be the only saving grace.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of what that means for the show or how I feel about Elena leaving; I have to say that this is a very beautifully written letter.
ReplyDeleteWe also now know why the importance of her role has been noticeably reduced this season.
ReplyDeleteHuh... I really don't know what to make of that... (and I haven't actually watched the show since mid S2...)
ReplyDeleteWas really sure that Ian Somerhalder would leave TVD first!!!
ReplyDeleteNoooooo! I can't believe she's leaving :(
ReplyDeleteI wish her luck. She's sure to be on a new show next season, or working on a movie. Basically she can be happy doing whatever she wants to do, acting or not.
ReplyDeleteWow, I bet some people are feeling really sheepish right now.
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching the show after season four but I still feel a little sad. Feels like the end of the show.
ReplyDeleteWell, she's a very talented actress. I look forward to learning what her next project is.
Well it is SpoilerTV, so....
ReplyDeleteI don't know. they can still have Lily rip her head off
ReplyDeleteLOL that would be funny.
or one of the brothers might kill her. or she might sacrifice herself. way more dramatic
True....maybe it's a vampire tradition....who knows!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI still don't get why continue the show when a main character that could be considered the main character is leaving. Even though a lot of the fandom dislikes Elena I think the show will die after she leaves.
ReplyDeleteNot at all surprised. I just want to know if Kat signed on for S7.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, it makes me super-happy... And kind of dizzy at the same time, since this pretty much confirms it, after months of getting interviews from Julie that they aren't planning it and how it's all about delena. And now delena is dead...
ReplyDeleteAnd like with witnessing the unexpected death of anyone you've known for a long time, it brings those unexpected feelings for me... Like I'm both happy and really sorry for delena fans and how they were made to have hope the whole time, constantly told how it's for sure... And now it's gone, just like that.
Glad she's leaving, I hope it works out for her. No surprise that STV was on the ball again :)
ReplyDeletetrue, its out there, so cw may promote the departure
ReplyDeleteShe's not really an integral part of the show right now as it is. Besides her mind-wiping arc to start the season and resolving things with Jeremy and Damon, Elena has been little more than a glorified tag-along throughout season 6.
ReplyDeletePut her in a new body blonde hair like the books lol does this mean caroline and bonnie get some plots worth a damn
ReplyDeleteGood luck to her! Loved her since she was Mia on Degrassi. Hope we get to see her doing some good things soon.
ReplyDeleteAgree - unless Bonnie's jumps her spirit into another body I can't see the show continuing without the main character.
ReplyDeletethat actually makes the least amount of sense. do you want the character going out with a bang or a slow boring phasing out?
ReplyDeleteOr why did Caroline become such a shadow main female character. Why is Bonnie's role that much bigger this season. Why they featured the bamon storyline this much. It all makes sense now...
ReplyDeleteI really don't think the show will make sense without her. She wasn't my favorite character or anything but they should end the show now that she is leaving, this is very forced to continue without her.
ReplyDeletewho said in the previous post that those rumours were ridiculous? Gotcha! anyway Im really disapointed in Nina, I hope that at least since she is good friends with Julie Plec that she told her in advance but who knows and about Michael Trevino...who really cares anymore? He's spent more time off the show and leaving than actually on the show.
ReplyDeleteJo has to be made a regular now I guess. Since Tyler is leaving as a regular can't be live. Sarah may be a regular next season too.
ReplyDeleteThe hell it does. The more important she is to the show at the end of her contract, the harder the empty space will be to fill. They'll send her off into the sunset and, except for the emotional toll on the other character, her impact will be minimized for the sake of the ongoing series.
ReplyDeleteBetween Bonnie, Caroline, Damon, and a little back from Enzo the "Pancake Diaries" shall be just fine. Nobody 4 LATER!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope the show becomes The Caroline diaries! Candice really deserves it and to be honest Kat Graham is killing it this season too.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I myself noticed that pattern. Guess no vampire show will break that record with 8 now.
ReplyDeleteI wish Nina the best of luck in her future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sad to see her go, I don't like Elena very much, not like I used to. Now maybe the show can focus on the relationship between the Salvatore brothers.
I don't why but this feels a tad weird.
ReplyDeleteElena was a significant main when she was either being fought over by the bros, and when she people were after her doppelganger mojo. For the last year it feels like she's been a main in name only.
ReplyDeleteWell those writers better put in some serious overtime and write one hell of a compelling story to keep fans interested in this show for 1 more season, otherwise just end in S6.
ReplyDeleteGoing out with a bang works for a supportive character, like Jeremy - they tried to remind us that he wasn't always completely useless on the show and make us honor his character. However this would never work with a main character - they were just getting us used to the show without Elena... That is why she didn't really matter this year, why they made her that unlikable etc., it was so people slowly get used to it and won't revolt about her disappearance that much...
ReplyDeleteI'm actually way more disappointed Micheal is leaving, especially since Steven left too, Matt will be kind of out of place unless he develops a close bromance with Stefan which I hope they do.
ReplyDeleteIt could possibly explain the introduction of the Sarah storyline as well.
ReplyDeleteand how is that working out? ratings are dropping and the show is dying
ReplyDeletecan you honestly sees a future past season 7?
Yes, the theory mentioned here seems to be right, Sarah is the new heroine who they'll protect from danger.
ReplyDeleteI only cared for Tyler in season 2 when the Tyler/Caroline friendship/romance was starting but then he started disappearing and I lost interest.
ReplyDeletePlease. There's a handful of veteran CW shows in line in front of TVD at the chopping block as far as ratings are concerned.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, that is one of the points - there was never a real chance for season 8 anyway. The ratings are that bad that it essentially doesn't matter whether Elena stays or not, there will be just one more season anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds Damon goes with her - they ride off into the sunset together. With the possibility of guest appearances in S7?
ReplyDeleteWell, I think it's best for the show to end now. It's not THAT GOOD anymore (it hasn't been good for a while, actually). I wish the best of luck to her, but it might be better come to an end. Only Bonnie can keep this thing going, but she died so many times, and I'll be SO PISSED if she dies again. Or be sended to another world or whatever...
ReplyDeleteSo TVD is going to end next season; with the huge amount of Delena shippers watching the show I can see the ratings going downhill.
ReplyDeleteOn the upside: maybe this will lead to some interesting directions for the fans
If True Blood (who was light years better than TVD) came to an end, why the hell TVD don't end?
ReplyDeletethen why not make the most of that character? makes no sense
ReplyDeleteWTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteNot to be hurtful, but zero - Ian is the main star, Damon the main character... and Ian has no interest in leaving, especially not now...
ReplyDeleteTrue Blood ceased to have any "better than TVD" bragging rights as soon as they introduced the The Authority storyline in season 5. From then on the show was a crap fest.
ReplyDeletethat doesn't mean they cost as much to produce as TVD.
ReplyDelete"Michael Trevino Not Returning as Regular" This thread is the gift that keeps on giving lol
ReplyDeleteHonestly, they will make a stronger team when they lose the weakest links (Tyler and Elena)...
ReplyDeletewell, not ALL vampire shows, just those.
ReplyDeleteNina was the main star - look how that turned out. Damon's entire character on the show has revolved around Elena even the majority of S6. Honestly, I think if she goes he goes.
ReplyDeleteWell that is the best news I have heard all day.
ReplyDeleteThe Originals likely costs just as much if not more and Reign is up there as well and both are noticeably worse than TVD in the ratings. Then there's the god-forsaken BatB so it's ridiculous to start putting nails in TVD's coffin. (no pun intended)
ReplyDeleteI have only seen a couple of episodes and you can tell that she is the main focus of the show; it's not like GoT in which there is enough cast to be expendable, or not even like The 100 where things could continue without Clarke as she is not the connective tissue of the show. She is the main character in the old sense of the word, so it's going to be weird for TVD to continue without her. It may be a chance to turn the tables and do something completely new and exciting, but there is a hugely high risk of becoming forced
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand - does it even matter? They won't get less than one season and they won't get more than one season (because of this year's ratings), so they theoretically they have free hands now, they can do whatever they wan't, knowing that ratings don't matter anymore..
ReplyDelete“Michael has been a beloved member of The Vampire Diaries family since day one,” is she serious? I have yet to meet someone who likes Tyler lol
ReplyDeleteThey don't know what to do with MT they haven't for awhile. I love you Ty always will.
ReplyDeleteSo as TVD, right on the season 5 as well. It's so exausting how many times Bonnie has died to save everyone, and still don't have the storyline she really deserves. Why the hell she have to suffer so bad?? And, wth she only says "phasmatus" everytime she appears?
ReplyDeleteThat's the same thing I said about Ian Somerhalder..............."The Vampire Diaries" is the "Damon Show"..............but I don't think anyone believes me. Nobody 4 NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched since last season. I think the sixth season should have been the last one. I wish Nina the best. She's talented and I look forward to seeing her in other roles.
ReplyDeleteAs a Delena shipper who has waited 6 long years to see this couple finally have their happy-ever-after this is a major blow. I don't see how the show survives. Delena was the main "cash cow" for TVD, which is why they continue to string fans along. All roads lead to Delena for this show without them it is over.
ReplyDeleteBecause people would miss her too much - looks good but it's really bad. They need people to keep watching for the other characters, not miss Elena.
ReplyDeleteHBO does not rely on ratings, CW does
ReplyDeleteMichael i get it, he is a waste the same as the guy that plays Matt but Nina?.
ReplyDeleteDAMN the show is not gonna be the same. They should just wrap everything up next season and be done with everything.
Now i expect them to give me more Bonnie and Caroline in the spotlight.
Beloved FOR HER! I think the fans don't agree with that...
ReplyDelete"I can see the ratings going downhill."
ReplyDeleteThey've already started going downhill.
I expect a buzz for the new season and then it will fall
ReplyDeleteLoved him ever since s2 couldn't taken the abuse he went through with Klaus so I bailed I still like him
ReplyDeleteIt's true. They ended "Looking", that was a great show.
ReplyDeleteI can honestly see TVD hitting 0.4s next season; there are non-shipper viewers, but the ratings level are already at the bottom of which can be considered good on The CW. Now it's going to explode
ReplyDeleteAnd both of those shows had horrible series finales.
ReplyDeleteLet's not bother. I can guarantee that for every TVD complaint you can muster, I can cite one for True Blood to go right along with it.
ReplyDeleterude af
ReplyDeleteyep, but they are still good for CW standards. Next fall I can see 0.4s ahead
ReplyDeleteI feel like this thread is the best proof of God's existence, really.
ReplyDeleteThat would be sad. o.O
ReplyDeleteI was neutral about him at first but I loved Caroline and Matt so I didn't like him when they got together. I hated what Klaus did to him too, but after that his story became very boring and annoying and didn't have any direction really.
ReplyDeleteWelp, looks like I'll be giving TVD a second chance next season since Elena was easily the main reason why I dropped it in the first place. And looks like this just ruined all the chances of seeing Katherine resurrected :( Either way, Nina leaving is just the beginning of the end for the show IMO.
ReplyDeleteOk, so TVD is ending, no denying it. So here are the questions:
ReplyDelete1) Short or full final season?
2) Which show will inherit its timeslot?
3) Will CW keep Thursdays as female skewing night or will they shift it to male skewing so they can premiere Arrow/Flash spin off show there for some ratings?
4) With Nina departing, do you think one of the other two leads could follow her track?
To be fair there were a lot of Forwood shippers so I'm sure people loved him I just didn't see them.
ReplyDeleteThat's why we got the new Bonnie who won't let anyone walk over her, be it Damon or anyone. She's no longer a victim, at least not in the future. In fact this whole storyline makes her one of the most powerful characters on TVD.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really a complaint. The fact is I LOVE KAT GRAHAM (and Bonnie) SO MUCH, and I don't think she deserves this. Half of what happened to her was unecessary.
ReplyDeleteIt's already sad to see it going down when it once was the number 1 show of the network. Now it's going to be outright depressing
ReplyDeleteThis! Some people may hate her, some may love her, but she is the most important character on the show! TVD would be just fine without Damon or Stefan, but I don't think it'll work without Elena, not to mention Nina is the best actress of the cast.
ReplyDeleteWell i have to say that it's a good thing for two reasons :
ReplyDelete1 - Elena's character became increasingly irritating for a while now. So i will not miss her!
2 - Because Nina has a huge potential as an actress & she need to explore more the cinema's world.
Her best episodes of the show , for me , are :
3) 5x11 as katherine , that episode was full of emotions
2) 4x21 as elena , the torture's scenes were intense and crazy
1) 4x15 as elena, the episode was sad & the scene when she turned off her emotions was just phenomenal...
So,for the S7,i guess we'll have Bamon,Stereoline ,with Enzo,Matt&Sarah in the middle. Good 4 me!
Short, please. 13 episodes MAX
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more, fellow poster. This series will be fine so long as Jules focus on the main star/character Ian/Damon and the "real backbone" of the series...........Bonnie and Caroline! Nobody 4 LATER!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to love Elena but it's sad to see what happened to her character after she became a vampire. It wasn't fair to Nina. I wish her the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteso now what? this is CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete1)short, 13
ReplyDelete2) cheerleader death squad, SPN or iZombie(midseason after it ends its 13 if it is 13)
3) yes
4) I thinl Paul may do a reduce amount episodes at worst.
Yeah, and season 6 hasn't been all that great besides a few plots/scenes scattered around. Not that that has anything to do with Elena. That's all writing.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy, but I'm now pretty sure that while season 7 will get horrible ratings, it will ironically be one of the best seasons.
ReplyDeleteI remember Matt being a jerk and putting Caroline down all the time so that helped me sympathize with their relationship better after s2 it went downhill fast. It was so good that one season.
ReplyDeleteI think the opposite actually. Like, you don't let your lead go and then do a wrap up season without her. If there is such a short term end goal in sight, you either convince your lead to remain with you until then (as in more money) or anticipate the ending slightly to accommodate her. To completely change the fabric of the show, which is what this will require, is not to admit you are near the ending, or else what is the point?
ReplyDeleteJust the way I see it at least. But I am so shocked with these news that I don't even know.
Well, she stands a much better chance of increasing her spotlight on the show now.
ReplyDeleteEven her couldn't stand the show anymore. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI think people are reacting way too "normally" lol. I am genuinely in shock as I cannot imagine how the show would be without her. The whole thing was always based on her. This is so weird. I don't think I've ever been this shocked with a cast shake up.
ReplyDeleteIt's just that I don't see TVD working without Nina. The ratings are already to acceptable levels on The CW; with Nina exiting I see the ratings sinking even farther. The shippers are going to drop the ball, and that means fewer viewers than TVD already has. And even none shippers could jump off the wagon.
ReplyDeleteNext season ratings are most likely to be so grimm that I see no reason to keep it around
Exactly, I used to love Elena too, defend her... But they have butchered her way too much. And Nina deserves better. Really, this is good news for pretty much everyone :)
ReplyDeleteAs I've been saying for a while, except for a few complaints here and there, season 6 has been better than both seasons 4 and 5 so far. I'm not really all that encouraged by the synopses for the upcoming episodes though. TVD has been crapping out at the end of their seasons lately and I'm hoping we don't get another example of that this season.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, the CW barely has enough male skewing shows to fill in its two male skewing nights and has a lot of female shows to schedule. I highly doubt they go male skewing here as that would create an unbalance on the schedule while forcing the only female skewing night to be stuck with the voice. I think it will be female but possibly with a touch of genre (TVD, TO, Izombie, etc.) instead of pure girly (Virgin, Hart of Dixie). Just my guess.
ReplyDeletealready cast on another show, and i thought you meant Nina when you said you were happy
ReplyDeleteShe totally is THE MOST powerfull character. The only thing Elena does, even as a vampire, is complaint about how miserable her life is and cry to the seven winds; Damon tries to be funny, but he's only good looking (handsome, I mean) and Stefan is BORING AS HELL. The only times Stefan is a good character is when he turns off humanity. He and Caroline, both without it, are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI agree :D
ReplyDeleteis this real. this doesn't feel real. what is happening
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that with Nina leaving the show will likely end yet with her leaving I'm much more likely to love the show again.
ReplyDeleteI also expected more shocked reactions. I don't even follow the show and I am shocked!
ReplyDeleteThe only time I've seen a main exiting is Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, but unlike that show at that time, TVD is not a hit anymore, and Elena seems even more integral to the show than Charlie ever was on Two and a Half Men... so it's even extra weird, and I can see TVD ending next season due to lowering ratings
One thing to keep in mind with TVD: they don't sell based on A18-49 I believe. I think they sell based on W18-49 and they are still in perfectly acceptable levels there. Not the monster it once was, but I am sure it is still very much profitable for the CW.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I admit that I agree with you. I really cannot imagine the show without her and I think the ratings will have a horrible collapse when this happens. Seriously, what the hell. I am really surprised here, in case you can't tell! What a strange thing to do!
I keep wondering how many fans like you are out there, fans that will START watching again because of Elena's departure, not STOP watching, haha. This is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe show outlived its time imo and all the actors deserve to move on to better things.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think that's great! Let's just get back for a final season and call it "The Vampire Diaries: Bonnie Rules It All!"
ReplyDeleteLess Tyler as well? Well alright.
ReplyDeleteIt's really weird. Nina must have really been anxious to leave to just leave things hanging. I don't think in any case Plec was on board with this.
ReplyDeleteI think chances are the ratings will crash horribly next season, but who knows? Maybe they don't, but I doubt it.
One thing is sure: things will never be the same for TVD, both on script and rating wise
I cannot agree more - simply tragic.
ReplyDeleteWell now we all know TVD will most definitely end next season. Not having Nina Dobrev in TVD is like Kerry Washington leaving Scandal, Emily Van Camp leaving Revenge, Zooey Deaschanel leaving New Girl or Ellen Pompeo leaving Greys Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteIt just won't work.
I was gonna start watching this show from the beginning on Netflix this summer but now....I'm taking it off my watchlist.
ReplyDeleteRight - Like "Jane" leaving "Jane the Virgin" - how can this show survive?
ReplyDeleteIt's a good move for Nina..... Who's this Trevino guy? Does he play on TVD?
ReplyDeleteIt's already working. There is very little happening on TVD that is about Elena Gilbert.
ReplyDeleteHaha. If the show actually focused more on the Salvatore brothers and Caroline and/or Bonnie become the main leads when Elena leaves then it's a win/win situation for me.
ReplyDeleteIzombie probably would go there; so far it looks promising, the DVR numbers look good and it has been steady, but we still have to see how it does without The Flash as lead in. If TVD has to end, I can see TVD/TO and then Izombie/TO or viceversa
ReplyDeleteBonnie is pretty much a BAMF now fully charged with magic. And what is even better - she makes a team with Damon, another BAMF with his different set of powers. Together they make such a force of nature that Kai should soil his pant preemptively, LOL
ReplyDeleteRight! Or like Sarah Michelle Gellar leaving Buffy.
ReplyDeleteEveryone thinks it'll die without her, but it might have a different effect. When Shannon Doherty left Beverly Hills 90210, the next season was actually up in most cases year to year I believe. I know the season five premiere was the highest episode of the show's history. Then again it could free fall.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone recall how the ratings changed after Hilarie and Chad left OTH?
Nah, I think it will continue the rebooting trend from the beginning of season 6, just this time it will really go to the core. Man, I'm so hyped...
ReplyDeleteI can see TVD hitting 0.5's next season, especially if they stay on Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteThe Delena fans on Twitter are running to Nina Dobrev with pitchforks and knives right about now LOL
I can see TVD hitting even lower numbers
ReplyDeletecompletely right
ReplyDeleteWhen Cory Monteith died, Glee took a huge impact.
ReplyDeleteSeems like that's exactly what's gonna happen judging by season 6 storylines :)
ReplyDeleteSo that's surprised. Glad Tyler's gone. I like Nina, but Elena not so much. So who will be the new man? A balance between Caroline, Stefan and Damon? The Salvatores entirely. Or will Sara get upgraded?
ReplyDeleteGoing out Gossip Girl style. What a shame that TVD will probably go from 1.5's a few years ago to 0.4-0.5's next season.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally Caroline, right? Jk.
ReplyDeleteMain character leaving is a whole different story.
ReplyDeleteTime to end the show.
Actually that's exactly what I'm eyeing now that Nina is leaving
ReplyDeleteShoe - I am so shocked and sad - I also wish Nina all the best but they should end it with S6
ReplyDeleteI blame the character.
ReplyDeleteMost people held their bye Felicia for today because they couldn't stand Elena.
And it's official. Gonna miss her on TVD despite the highs and lows. Sad that they couldn't reach a deal even if 7 is likely going to be the last.
ReplyDelete"It's already working."
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said that better. The next season already looks MUCH more promising and we don't even know the details yet, lol.
It makes sense. She's human, has a (thankfully familial) connection to the Salvatores, and (unfortunately) will probably have a romance with Enzo.
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately indeed.
ReplyDeleteGlee was already falling though. It ended s4 with a 2.0 I think and came back to the same thing, then fell.
ReplyDeleteShe signed for 6 seasons. I think it's actually very respectful of her to not break her contract early, especially with the BTS stuff going on.
ReplyDeleteWell, Twitter is a hell of place - it's not that long that many delena fans kept being rude to Kat just for her "bamon" tweet...
ReplyDeleteShe becomes pretty irreverent by six.
ReplyDeleteI just can't picture any of those shows without their lead actresses. Revenge without Emily VanCamp? Nope. No Olivia Pope on Scandal? Who would handle things? No New Girl on New Girl? It just doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteI would also add that OUAT wouldn't truly work without Jennifer Morrison; she is just too integral to the setup of the show.
On the same note Elena always seemed to me part of the DNA of the show, strapping her off it is like... I don't even have a comparison, it just doesn't strike me like it'll work
No - I meant Michael - I found it hard watching Tyler on TVD - his character always appeared to be lost. Like trying to nail jello to the wall - nothing would stick.
ReplyDeleteYep, totally ruined Game of Thrones...
ReplyDeleteWell hopefully it'll die quickly. But it's Plec so....
ReplyDeleteTVD is not like GoT where the are a million characters and millions of storylines going on. Ned could die because there was enough storylines kicking around to go without him.
ReplyDeleteTVD? Not the same
2.5 Men ,The Office, E.R., Cheers, Spin City., X-Files, many others
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones has no main character.
ReplyDeleteNed was not the main character in GoT at all, and in reality there is no main character... Not comparable at all
ReplyDeleteWell all of those shows collapsed later on with the ratings, so...
ReplyDeleteexcept Cheers
ReplyDeleteRatings were mostly fair for the first season since Hilarie and CMM left but the next 2 was when the show started to experience a significant ratings bleed.
ReplyDeleteAs I've mentioned on an earlier article, it's different cases, different scenarios.
Shannen leaving BH90210 still left a gaping hole the same way Charmed had years later. While the former had the benefit of being an actual ensemble show, Brenda was one half of the show's central heart and soul (with Brandon being the other).
It never made sense that Brenda was absent during Donna and David's wedding. At least Brandon sent a VHS tape sending his well wishes, but only on the behalf of his now absent family.
Re: Charmed. Also didn't make sense for Prue not to appear in some shape or form after she died whereas, Patty and Penelope have popped in and out of the show for the next 5 seasons.
the difference is GOT didn't have one lead character where the focus was mainly on them instead there are multiple main characters with equal storylines and time
ReplyDeleteI'm actually crossing my fingers and hoping Matt gets high and does something really stupid with it. Probably not though.
ReplyDeleteAlmost all shows eventually collapse with ratings....
ReplyDelete2.5 Men - people wanted Kuthcher, people quit on him one year later.
ReplyDeleteThe Office - sucked without Carell, ratings collapse came.
Spin City - collapsed
E.R - ensemble show, just like Law and Order and CSI
X-Files - Mulder absent was the last blow
It actually fell real hard when the show moved back to Tuesdays halfway through season 5.
ReplyDeleteWell Eddard was kind of the main. I stress kind of.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Cheers, but chances are looking very dim for TVD; its ratings are already down 30%, so if it goes the route of all of those shows even The 100 could end up avaraging higher than TVD
ReplyDeleteAgree the foundation of the show was about a young girl who falls in love with 2 vampire brothers - the foundation just crumbled.
ReplyDeleteHe played Tyler Lockwood on the show.
ReplyDeleteThat foundations been dead since season 4.
ReplyDeleteof course TVD should/probably end next season, and maybe CW itself comes to an end
ReplyDeleteThe ones mentioned above all did well until the main left. 2.5 Men grew out of curiosity and then it started to fall. Cheers seems like it made it.
ReplyDeleteBut usually main character exiting means ratings falling and TVD doesn't have much more ratings left to fall
well GOT is one of the few shows that doesn't really have a main character at all. its telling the stories of multiple characters
ReplyDeleteSo then they would just kill Elena instead of giving her a happy new life in a happy new town? LOL
ReplyDeleteI did say kind of. Given how much of the show was from his pov in one.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been happy with TVD since season 3 really. It went downhill. For me this season a lot of what I've liked was due to Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she fakes her death to go hunt vampires with Jeremy? :P
ReplyDeleteWith this news, the show should just end. The story's premise is centred around Elena. What's the point anymore? And Trevino's no longer going to be a regular? This just keeps getting better and better. Probably no season seven for me.
ReplyDeleteGuys? You know what this means? Delena's gonna die!!! This is awesome! I say we party.
ReplyDeleteWith Elena it may hover on 0.6, enough to scrap another season.
