Netflix Begins Audio Description for Visually Impaired
At Netflix, we work hard to continually improve the experience for our members when viewing movies and shows on our service, including providing accessibility across devices. Now we’re expanding our accessibility options by adding audio description on select titles, beginning today with our new critically acclaimed series, Marvel’s Daredevil.
Audio description is a narration track that describes what is happening on-screen, including physical actions, facial expressions, costumes, settings and scene changes. Customers can choose audio narration just like choosing the soundtrack in a different language.
In coming weeks, we'll add more titles, including current and previous seasons of the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning political thriller House of Cards, Emmy award-winning comedy-drama series Orange is the New Black, as well as Tina Fey’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and the epic adventure series Marco Polo.
Netflix is actively committed to increasing the number of audio-visual translations for movies and shows in our English-language catalogues. We are also exploring adding audio description into other languages in the future.
Over time, we expect audio description to be available for major Netflix original series, as well as select other shows and movies. We are working with studios and other content owners to increase the amount of audio description across a range of devices including smart TVs, tablets and smartphones.

09:44 - Who's Going to Die on Chicago P.D.?
Another Chicago P.D.character is about to bite the dust! In the show's upcoming crossover with Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU, one person won't make it out of the three-hour event alive.
When a murderer (Dallas Roberts) who's been at it for 10 years resurfaces, a manhunt unites all three shows in Chicago before heading back to New York for the final hour. Although the case initially hits SVU's Benson (Mariska Hargitay) the hardest, it ends tragically for one of P.D.'s own: Detective Lindsay (Sophia Bush). "[The death] rocks Lindsay to the extent that at the end of the season, she's looking at her detective shield wondering if she wants to continue being a detective or if she's going to hand that over and take the easy way out," executive producer Matt Olmstead says.
But Lindsay isn't the only one affected. In fact, Jay will have a less-than-desirable connection to the case. "His brother Will (Nick Gehlfuss) lived in New York and strangely enough, the timeline of the crimes fits when he was in New York and Chicago. So he gets in the cross-hairs, which really rocks Halstead."
Who do you think is dying?

08:22 - Syfy Developing New Series 'Rain' with Katee Sackhoff to Star
Katee Sackhoff broke out in the role of troubled pilot badass Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica. That show proved to be a defining project for Syfy—and the network has laid out a game plan for producing more Galactica-esque TV shows, with a renewed focus on Big Think dark sci-fi and a shift away from frothy adventure series. So it makes sense that, as originally reported by Deadline, Syfy is working on a new series with Sackhoff.
But Rain won’t just star Sackhoff; the actress developed the show, which is apparently an “evolutionary parable” set in a future Earth suffering through the long-term effects of global warming, fossil fuel consumption, and presumably several decades of bad New York winters and neverending California droughts. Sackhoff’s character, Rain, is a soldier of some sort, so presumably the show will explore heavy philosophical issues via occasional bursts of gunplay and hand-to-hand fighting—just like Battlestar Galactica!
No word on when Rain will hit Syfy. Sackhoff currently has a day job acting on Longmire, the crime series which jumped from A&E to Netflix for its upcoming fourth season.
