What would've been a good episode was ruined by a terrible ending. The episode in fact wasn't too bad, but the way that they made it a happy ending was just ridiculous. After the team went through the whole ordeal with the tornado and having to kill all the zombie firemen, it just didn't seem believable. What was even more laughable was the fact that Warren was sitting outside in a chair and managed to survive the tornado hitting her house, even though the house was crumbled around her. The promo for next week tells us that "a team member won't survive". A team member really should have died in this episode, as there were so many things that could've killed them.
Anyway, the episode this week takes place in Southern Illinois, Castle Point to be exact. Castle Point is Roberta's hometown, where she lived and grew up. She didn't actually want to go there, which was surprising as I am sure anyone would want to know if a loved one is still alive. We also find out in a conversation between Garnett and Warren that he has a wife Amy and kids. It was enjoyable to see the team going to a location where someone used to live. What would have been better though was to see flashbacks of her past. Since she was at her house it would've been the perfect time to see something about her past. Note to writers we need more character development on the show.
Earlier we hear Murphy say "After he was so wrong about that chopper, weatherman's a pretty good job for that geek". I am inclined to agree with Murphy. Citizen Z is meant to be their eyes in the sky, but he failed to notice that the chopper from the last episode didn't have any wings. What is the point of his character? I like the actor, but his character wastes valuable screen time. This episode Citizen Z gets drunk and broadcasts about "the badass storm ever".
He really wasn't needed in the episode at all. He did nothing, he only warned them about the tornado which they could clearly see themselves. If I was writing for this show I would have written Citizen Z out by now, his character becomes more irritating and pointless as the season progresses.
When the team get to Warren's house they find two people inside. One is an injured man named Rick. The two people were instructed by a fireman to go to the house. It obviously had to off been Warren's husband. Doc thinks he can save him with the correct medical supplies so Warren and Garnett head off to find some med kits in the local firehouse. Cassandra and 10k go off to scavenge for supplies, whilst the rest remained in the house. Murphy by the way made an awful comment when they got there about "Dead hubby". I like Murphy, but sometimes he can come across as ignorant, and unkind.
When Warren and Garnett get to the firehouse, the husband wasn't there the only thing that awaited them was firemen zombies. I am a bit surprised they were that easy to kill especially with helmets on. They then leave with the fire truck and return to the house with med packs and supplies. As soon as they get back the storm starts to pick up, and the tornado starts to get closer. The tornado picked up a load of zombies and started to shoot them out, I was a bit surprised that some of the zombies that got flung so many feet were still alive after the impact on the floor. I would've imagined them being killed on impact with the ground.
Murphy goes through a bit of a transformation this episode; he decides to go bald after his hair starts to fall out. I think these are all signs of the vaccine not working. It probably worked in the beginning and is now starting to lose its effect. He is also acting pretty strange, as he didn't want to kill one of the zombies in the basement. Perhaps he was imagining himself in the zombie’s shoes. At the rate Murphy is changing, I don't know if he will make it to California in time.
Addy, on the other hand, is having these strange flashbacks, I would say they are related to the whole cannibal experience, but we saw most of what was going on there. Perhaps it was from her past.
As the storm is right on their doorstep, Warren locks the basement door and sits in her husband's chair with their wedding album in her hand. I think she was hoping her husband would come and rescue her. I don't think she wanted to die; she just wants her husband back. Cassandra and 10k meanwhile take shelter in a car. I didn't get that at all, the last place you want to take shelter is in a car which can be lifted up into the air like anything. It wasn't a smart move and there lucky it didn't cost them their life's.
As the tornado has struck the house, Warren to my shock survived. Even though the house is completely destroyed, she somehow remains intact on her chair. Realistically she would probably be dead or at least under some rubble. In the end, they find her and give her back her weapons which have also not been blown away. The group then leave in the fire truck and van.
Summary
It was an ok episode. I actually enjoyed it most of the time. Yet again, some silly decision-making and a terrible ending let the show down, again. We do not need every episode to end with Citizen Z and one of his endless speeches
As always , thank you for reading! Let me know in the comments what you thought of the episode!
