Episode 8.21 will see the introduction of a new character. This character will appear in episodes 8.21/8.22 and 8.23 and has the possibility for more appearances in Season 9.
His name is "Metatron" and is an aged angel, the scribe of God and has been around before the time of Adam and Eve. He is described as a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Virgil Kent/Keyser Söze.

Name sounds a bit like a transformer... still and intersting sounding character though.
ReplyDeleteSo Metatron isnt someone we already know, I've read a lot of theories this past year that it could be. This is interesting, it opens up some big questions regarding the tablets and the closing of the respective gates. I'm curious as to what Metatron thinks of closing the gates to hell and possibly heaven and what possible info he might have.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that this means Kevin is no longer needed. I did suspect he wouldnt make it past the end of the season but introducing the Metatron kinds makes Kevin a bit redundant?
At least it's not a made-up name ;D .. another name of his in the myths is Enoch, but I suspect they didn't want to be confused with Boardwalk Empire.
ReplyDeleteAt least it is a name we have heard of in the series, am interested to find out who they get to play him.
ReplyDeleteI'm betting the trials are rituals to get Metatron inside Sam, like Benny did with Dean
ReplyDeleteMy thought were that this angel is a trial. But, he could be onto Cas. I second guess when he could be in season 9 I'm skeptical if he is a trial, or good for that matter.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this character.
Metatron is alive. .......And why I always worry his/her death when I heard of new character appearance?
ReplyDeleteOh shit, Metatron! That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteMetatron!!!
ReplyDeletePerhaps he can take over for Kevin then. Obviously he knows what's on the tablets and he could just tell them instead waiting endlessly to get one small clue. That would speed things up mightily.
ReplyDeleteSo much for the theory of Chuck being Metatron.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this character, more angels are always a good thing in my book. :)
Keep piling on the guest stars Carver, or whoever is really running the show so that we'll forget that once it was Sam and Dean Winchester and their epic story who were the stars of Supernatural, but of course brother fans are no longer appreciated, TPTB have to cater to other sections of fandom now. Obviously next season is going to be a big angel fest. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo excited for this, I was waiting for Metatron to appear since Reading is Fundamental! Thank you Jeremy Carver, you just made my day!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're introducing Metatron, have been waiting for this for a while!
ReplyDeleteYaaaaay! Sounds amazing, can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm SO excited. Metatron is a HUGE character in angel lore, and I'm really intrigued. what will happen with him. If he's going to be in the last three episodes, that gives me hope Castiel will be in the last three as well.
ReplyDeleteI am really really excited about the introduction of Metatron. I've wanted to see him show up since he was first mentioned in Reading Is Fundamental. This is going to be amazing! I can feel it in my bones :D
ReplyDeleteQuick, someone call Alan Rickman!
ReplyDeleteI hope Metatron doesn't bite the dust. After all the killings of various Angels, Arch Angels and even Gods I seriously hope at least Metatron doesn't have to die on this show. That said, doesn't Metatron as the writer of the tablets make Kevin as the translator of the tablets kind of superfluous? I mean no one knows better than Metatron what's written, so I wonder what Kevin's role will be then. In any case, I'm looking forward to those episodes and I hope that means Cas is also going to appear in 8.21-8.23. His plot has been barely adressed so far and 8.10 was just plainly depressing. I need some good Cas episodes. I also know barely anything about Naomi despite her being one of the big players this season, so I really hope those episodes won't disappoint.
ReplyDelete*face palm* The show is and always will be mainly about Sam and Dean. But it doesn't mean, they're alone in the whole world and can't interact with anyone else. I don't know what you wanna see. There have always been guest stars since Season 1.
ReplyDeleteIf there was not any guest stars, what would Sam and Dean be doing? Maybe playing chess for 40 minutes? There have always been guest.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised that he's appearing. Absolutely awesome. Hope he has lots of interaction with Dean!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for the introduction of Metatron! The description sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteOooh interesting spoiler, was wondering if/when Metatron might show up.
ReplyDelete*Verbal Kint
ReplyDeleteI'm VERY excited about meeting Metatron. I love me some angels! I hope he's at least like Joshua, if not Samandriel. SPN needs more good angels :)
ReplyDeleteIn general, I'm very much enjoying S8 and can't wait for S9!
Ohh, excited for this! Very curious to see what route they'll have him take (with/against the Winchesters, helpful or just passively there and if he's aware of Naomi controlling Cas and if he acts against that and and and...) As I said, very curious~
ReplyDeleteBut interacting with other characters has always been part of the show since the Pilot. Sam and Dean and other characters. Not Sam and Dean sitting in a room by themselves! Since he's an angel, he's directly tied in to the angel tablets story, not a one off character brought in for the sake of stunt casting or anything else. And I sincerely doubt Sam and Dean will be kicked out of the show for Metatron.
ReplyDeleteI would watch them, lol
ReplyDeletei'm so excited and think this will be really interesting!
ReplyDeleteOh I don't know; maybe hunting things and saving people and perhaps having a story-arc personal to them and not to every Tom, Dick or Harry the writers decide to throw into the mix.
ReplyDeleteX
Then there are guest stars and guest stars, 99% of those who have been on this season have been completely forgettable and weren't worth the screen time.
If you're going to have guest stars at least take the time to make them sympathetic to the viewers and not just throw them in there and expect one to bond with them.
X
And then I would rather watch Sam and Dean playing chess for 40 minutes than have an episode like Bitten or the James /dog one where they are on screen for two minutes leaving the bulk of the episode and the proactiveness to these 'wonderful' guest stars.
I was going to comment exactly about it, T. I hope he'll be a good angel for a change.
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteWell his character is described as being like Keyser Söze, so I doubt he's going to be nice.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I thought maybe we wouldn't meet Metatron until season 9. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, you got me: I suck at references. Need to do a Google search. :)
ReplyDeleteO_O Holt crap!!!!!Didn't expect that!!!!Cool!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC.
ReplyDeleteYes!! Finally we get to meet metatron!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? Bitten was one of the best Supernatural episodes so far.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this :D SO EXCITED.
ReplyDeleteI think this could be awesome! Though they'll probably have him be evil too. They don't write too many good angels. But, I am interested, since this angel has a back story in lore, if the writers will refer to it at all or make up their own?
ReplyDeleteMetraton? Transformer on Supernatural? :p
ReplyDeleteMetatron? Transformer on Supernatural? :p
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but the guest stars were secondary to the Winchesters and their story-line; now the tables have been turned and it's the Winchesters who are the secondary characters and wallpaper in their own show.
ReplyDeleteClearly the brothers will always be present but there is no doubt that their importance has been dumbed down.
X
As for the Hell and Angel tablets, I don't see them as being personal to the Winchesters at all and I'm not really interested in having a new host of super powerful angels invading the show.
Oh my gosh this is so huge! Alan Rickman! No Seriously, I think it's great to finally get to meet the angel responsible for the tablets! Really excited development!
ReplyDeleteMetatron is directly linked to all the tablets since he wrote them? Which means he's linked to the demon tablet and closing the gates of hell and therefore the trials. If I'm right they will likely be dealing with another trial (likely the third) by these episodes and since we know so little about that/what the consequences could be and so and the possiblilty that the angel tablet will have come into play by then too, seems like theres lots of stuff that directly links to Sam and Dean.
ReplyDeleteAlso from the filming shedule and set reports and such there has been plently of Jared and Jensen on set lately.
my guess is he's a neutral and is mainly important because he's the only one who can read and interpret the word of god fully.
ReplyDeleteinteresting, but why?
ReplyDeletehopefully its a big name
ReplyDeleteYeah, I would also for a few eps..I always say I would buy an audio book of James Marsters(Spike) reading a phone book. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't understand comments like this. We've seen Sam and Dean interact with each other for eight seasons. Their relationship cannot grow unless they are exposed to outside influences, interact with other characters, listen to outside views, and in other words be allowed to develop outside their often agoraphobic, codependent relationship.
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled that the show is building a large supporting cast for Sam and Dean to discover more of their world through.
Heck I would almost rather watch the Ghostfacers than Bitten and you know I just can't stand the GF.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed a lot of the guest this year and would not mind them coming back..Loved the Golem and his boss. I'm not a fan of Kevin and his mom, but most fans love them.
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteHenry Winchester's appearance revealed that Sam and Dean have the power to up the ante by channeling their souls into occult tasks. This appears to be what the Men of Letters are at least partly about.
ReplyDeleteRuby said much of Sam's power was innate and he didn't need the demon blood. Optimistically we'll see a re-powered-up Sam in upcoming stories.
I can't wait to FINALLY meet Metatron, even though I still think he is Chuck.
ReplyDeleteI really wish Supernatural could afford Alan Rickman.
ReplyDeleteStatus Quo is never good.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to answer you with a beautiful quote:
ReplyDelete"I know what you want. You want a story that won’t surprise you. That will confirm what you already know. That won’t make you see higher or further or differently. You want a flat story. An immobile story. You want dry, yeastless factuality"
Life if Pi.
Sam and Dean's 'agoraphobic, codependent relationship' is the heart of the show; their willingness to die for each other and not just die, but sell their souls and suffer the torments of Hell, is it what made the fans fall in love with the Winchester brothers and their story in the first place.
ReplyDeleteX
I certainly don't want to see them transformed into two run of the mill brothers. I can watch that on any number of shows.
Their life together fighting evil, and being in constant danger from unknown beings has forged a bond that is much stronger than ordinary siblings and because of that they can never be 'normal'.
Then pehaps for them that co-dependent relationship is all they want and need We can't judge them by our own standards.
They definitely seem at their happiest when in each other's company.
The one that wrote the tablet?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait! I was really hoping we would get to see Metatron! (And I figured we would after he was mentioned a couple times) And I'm really excited to see what this character brings to the table!
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, are you guys allergic to side characters?
ReplyDeleteOh, the "brothers only" people? They're allergic to story development
ReplyDeleteSo uh, did you skip season 7?
ReplyDeleteMetatron can certainly read it, but he most definitely won't tell them what it says. I mean-- since when have the higher-up angels (Gabriel excepted) not been dickheads? What's more, there's a theory circulating that in season 9, the Winchesters try to close the gates of Heaven with the angel tablet. So, he won't exactly be rushing to help them if that's the case, will he?
ReplyDeleteOn Cas- Yes, I agree. At least, now (epi 17) he returns, and I'm pretty sure we'll get an explanation of what Naomi did to him. There's a lot to fit in, I think-- so Cas will prob be in all the next episodes. As to who Naomi is... I think that's a season 9 thing. She's very unusual, and she seems a little bit like Uriel, don't you think?
In other news- Meg Masters! Gotta give four to Meg. She is the sole character to have lasted all 8 seasons, without dying even once.
Quite the contrary and without having to disturb Yann Martel.
ReplyDeleteI want thrilling, adventurous, unusual, uplifting stories but I want them to have Dean and Sam as the protagonists and as the ones who expand their horizons, not persons I couldn't care less about.
(reposting what Chris said)
ReplyDeleteI want Dean to end up trapped in Heaven.
No, hear me out. They figure out how to work the Angel Tablet—maybe Metatron helps. Naomi forces Cas through the portal as it’s closing with her crazy mind control. Cas struggles and Dean grabs his hand, tries to drag him back through, but he isn’t strong enough. He’s never strong enough. It’s Purgatory all over again. Cas tells Dean to go when he realizes that it’s hopeless, and Dean yells, “Not this time!” and jumps through at the last second.
S9 is Sam, Kevin, and Co. trying to get Dean and Cas back with Metatron’s assistance. Suck on that, TWO BROTHERS.
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete"Seem at their happiest when in each other's company" haha. Yeah. Season 7 and 8x10.....
ReplyDeleteSo excited about this!
ReplyDeletesounds fun, I'd love to know who will play him
ReplyDeleteThis is super exciting! Really looking forward to meet Metatron! There have been a lot of good news for Supernatural lately, thank you Jeremy Carver!!!
ReplyDeleteyeah, the name reminds me of Megatron in the Tranformers Series, not the classiest reference...
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, if we have to have angels. But I'm always amazed how much the CW PR spoils things by giving away things that would be better as a surprise.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to speculate if Metetron would show up, and it would have been great to have an "Ahah!" moment in the episode, instead of a PR blurb.
lol Having that line come out of Sam's mouth, of all people, is one of the biggest wtf? lines of all.
ReplyDeleteI hope he stays morally ambiguous & mysterious like Death, instead.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds AWESOME. Alan Rickman available?? :P
ReplyDeleteI don't see how you can be upset over the appearance of a character that everyone guessed would show up back when he was mentioned in 8x07. We knew this was coming. What we don't know is what kind of role he's going to play. He's just as likely to be an antagonist as a helpful character. There's no need to jump to conclusions.
ReplyDeleteYES. YES PLEASE. GIVE ME ALL OF THIS.
ReplyDeleteThat would be absolutely fantastic... he did Dogma, why not Supernatural?
ReplyDeleteCan we have an *actress* for Metatron? Even better--someone who /isn't/ white? I mean, angels are genderless anyway. They /are/ a wavelength of celestial intent, so it's not like Metatron has to be played by an old white dude, right?
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I am excited for this! Can't wait!
up to I saw the receipt for $8492, I have faith that...my... neighbours mother woz like they say realie taking home money in their spare time from there new laptop.. there aunts neighbour had bean doing this 4 only about 20 months and just now took care of the loans on there apartment and bourt a gorgeous Citroën DS. go to, jump15.comCHECK IT OUT
ReplyDeleteI love this theory, just saying.
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome, I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteAlan Rickman would be so perfect for Supernatural as Metatron. He was awesome in Dogma.
ReplyDeleteYes! Ever since they mentioned him in 7x21 I've been wanting to see this character. Hope he's not a bad angel. Would be nice to have another angel on the Winchester side. Especially with Naomi controlling Cas right now.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this theory will happen because, I don't see anyone caring that much for Castiel and also, Jared Padalecki said that "Winchesters are ready to sacrifice Castiel". Not much chance.
ReplyDeleteDean is so happy that Sam's afraid he's going to kill himself.
ReplyDeleteI will say Dean is at his happiest, but not so much Sam..he just want OUT.
ReplyDeleteJared was giving his opinion. I don't think Dean would do it unless there was zero choice. I'd say the reason this won't happen is because they just had a finale where Dean and Cas were taken to another dimension.
ReplyDeleteFinally! This is so exciting. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, yes! If he's likened to Obi-Wan, he's probably a good guy. Also it would be nice to have an archangel who behaves like a responsible adult.
ReplyDeleteNot right now he does not he has chosen Dean and the hunt and the Mol's has seemingly given him a purpose and he faces the trials as well. His relationship with Dean doesnt depend on him living his life to a certain criteria and if he looks to something else that he is selfish for it.
ReplyDeleteYou clearly know nothing about storytelling, or you would know that side characters are introduced for the very purpose of expanding the horizons of the main characters.
ReplyDeleteI see, so what you want is incest.
ReplyDeleteNeed it. Jesus, that would be so amazing.
ReplyDelete"I don't see anyone caring that much for Castiel "
ReplyDeleteUm, excuse me? Did you miss the part where Dean stayed down in Purgatory for a year looking for Cas even though he had a way out and could have left any time? I should think he wouldn't hesitate about following Cas to Heaven if he had to. He cares for Cas. Feel free not to ship it but when you start posting that he and Sam don't care about Cas when it is *canon* that they do, you just look silly.
I love this idea. Wow
ReplyDeleteI love Alan Rickman. Why not.
ReplyDeleteYess!! I'm so looking forward to this storyline!! uwu
ReplyDeletewhile i personally would enjoy that storyline, it appears you have re-posted this without Chris' permission. Not cool.
ReplyDeletealso "Chris" isn't a valid source, as there are probably millions of people with that name; how is anyone going to differentiate?
Why do I think that? Because when he completed the first trial and said the magic words, Sam's arm glowed like Dean's arm glowed when he released Benny from his hand. If you're asking why Metatron has to be released like this? I don't know
ReplyDeleteThey were taken to other dimension, forcefully. Not by choice. Note the difference?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he will be the same as of most angels or he will be human friendly... I hope he could be an angel to love... I mean. He was closer to God that anyone... he must love humankind... I guess
ReplyDeleteRidiculous. Dean would have followed any friend who is in the purgatory and not just Castiel. Castiel is no special snow-flake here. If all things end well, I don't see end well for Castiel in heaven, I think Dean would be more than happy to send his friend to a perfectly safe place than earth called HOME with a teary goodbye. I don't really think Dean would actually go to heaven for sake of Castiel.
ReplyDeleteBut I think, things will not end well for Castiel in heaven and hence he stays back on earth even after series finale.
Thank you, Josh! I was starting to suspect I was the only one who enjoyed that ep.
ReplyDeleteYES!! writers, please take note! this would be an awesome story line!
ReplyDeleteDean stayed on Purgatory by choice. Hope you can understand.
ReplyDeletethe "brothers only" yeah, they basically hate every side character you can put on there... and story-telling... they practically know nothing about it.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, idjit? Go watch the first 3 seasons and shut the fuck up. Oh wait, only the first 2 since S3 had Ruby and Bela too. Dumb fuck.
ReplyDeleteCalling people names is not the SPN fan way and just makes you look bad.
ReplyDeleteEr, wrong? Let me quote Dean: "we're gonna shove your ass back through the eye of that needle if it kills all three of us." He was ready to sacrifice himself and Benny - "any friend", as you put it - to get Castiel out. So no, you're wrong Castiel IS a special snowflake.
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, as I'm genuinely curious, who falls into the 1% of interesting, sympathetic guest stars, in your opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm perfectly accepting of the fact that everyone has different views: A character I love can be venomously hated by others and vice versa. That's just the way it happens sometimes. But I *am* curious because, for most people, I would think the most obvious entry into that 1% is Castiel, whom you've already made it abundantly clear that you despise, along with all other angelic aspects of the series. So, I can't help but wonder who does make the list?
Dean was given two roads: One that led to Sam and Earth, and one that led deeper into Purgatory, where he'd have to risk his life every moment, just to find Castiel.
ReplyDeleteHe chose the one with Castiel.
Removing the shipping goggles. Now, I'm not saying he picks Castiel over Sam, but he cares about Castiel enough to risk his life for a year in monster Hell rather than go home to Sam //without// his angel. When he ended up doing the latter anyways, he started drinking again. This is just like last season when he showed signs of being alcoholic when Castiel was gone. He prays to him constantly. Dean has said himself that he needs Castiel. I don't for a second doubt how much Dean cares about Castiel. I know Sam cares about him, too.
Jared's opinion is as good as any other person's opinion. He is not a writer, he is not actually Sam Winchester, so his words are not canon fact. I don't think he pays close enough attention to the show. He once said Castiel hates Sam, and we all know that's BS. (Castiel walked up to the edge of a ring of holy fire to threaten Lucifer, because he threatened Sam.)
Does it matter that much...? It's not a copyrighted piece of artwork, it's just an idea being thrown around.
ReplyDeleteDean said himself that he needs Castiel, so that's certainly not what he wants. Sam has been reaching for a normal life since season 1, so I don't think that's what he wants either.
ReplyDeleteThe heart of the show isn't the brothers, it's family. It started with their whole family and it will end with their whole family, be it now just two brothers and an angel and a couple of friends they picked up along the way.
"Family don't end with blood." - Quote from some "side character" that doesn't matter because apparently Sam and Dean only care about Sam and Dean
You'll get Brent Spiner and like it.
ReplyDeleteThe quest for the tablets is personal to the Winchesters because, if they are successful, then they have that much more of a shot at living some semblance of a normal life. Not to mention, it would allow them the ultimate revenge against the forces that have been fucking around with them their entire lives. And, if they are unsuccessful, it could cost them their lives. It may cost them their lives anyway, which presents the moral dilemma of "is this really worth it?"
ReplyDeleteAnd, last but not least, the tablet arc is highly personal to them at the moment because Castiel has gotten caught up in the race to find and protect the tablets, thanks to Naomi, and *Cas* is extremely important to the boys, second only to each other.
A friend and I were hoping for a female Metatron. It would've been cool, but I never bothered getting my hopes up. You never can with Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteToss Benny into heaven at the last moment so he and Naomi can have an "unnatural" relationship and breed an army of little winged vampires.
ReplyDeleteDean said that they were trapped in purgatory for a year. We don't know how long it took him to track down Cas,but it wasnt that long. We do know that the three of them fought side by side with each other for awhile. Cas himself said that he had decided awhile back(indicating that the 3 had been together for some time already) that he was staying in purgatory for penance but he didn't want to say anything to Dean.
ReplyDeleteThe entire year in purg wasn't spent by Dean looking for Cas. They found him not too long after the two of them landed in purg. We weren't really given an explanation as to why it took the 3 of them a year to escape.
he didn't stay by choice. it took them a year to escape. they had found cas not too long after he had gone into hiding in purgatory.
ReplyDeleteFrom that description, it sounds like he'll be benevolent but with a healthy dose of putting the actual religious 'fear of God' into others. He may be fiercely loyal to God and expects as much from others.
ReplyDeleteSecondary characters play an intrical role in growing the main characters and moving the storylines along.
ReplyDeleteThe heart of the show has always been the brothers, according to the show's creator Eric Kripke. It's about their journey and what's most important to them (that being family). It's about them overcoming whatever life throws at them and growing as family and individuals.
ReplyDeletePlease rewatch 8x02-8x05-8x07. You're welcome!!
ReplyDeleteThere was a mixup. Her name is Maria and here's the link: http://onamelancholyhill.tumblr.com/post/44789594994/i-want-dean-to-end-up-trapped-in-heaven-no
ReplyDeletebetter?
Eric Kripke didn't even care about the brother's relationship initially, he just wanted to make a show that would scare people.
ReplyDeleteive watched it several times.LISTEN when Dean says they were TRAPPED.Listen to what Cas says in "a slice of kevin'. You're Welcome.
ReplyDeleteMy 1% for this season would be Benny, Benny's granddaughter, Charlie, Aaron, and any of the hilarious police officers we have had. They are the only ones I remember without rolling my eyes. The majority of recurring or guest starts this season have been utterly forgettable, cringeworthy, or have worn out their welcome. It's has been a bad crop this year.
ReplyDeleteWhen he saw what he created and what fans were responding to, he cared alot and ran with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying Dean didn't delay trying to escape purg until they found Cas, he did. What I'm saying is that it didn't take them an entire year to FIND Cas. They found him well before the year was over. They spent the rest of the year fighting side by side to try and escape purg.
ReplyDeleteI hope Metatron has interactions with both brothers.
ReplyDeleteYou're correct, Denise. Dean was looking for Cas and actively searching a way out for them all (portal that Benny lead them to). Cas decided to stay in Purgatory to do penance.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was awful. I don't know what BE was thinking when he wrote that line for Sam. I'm not saying Sam would know who Metatron WAS but he would certainly not think he was a "Transformer".
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if Metatron would ever make an appearance. be happy to see him as a regular.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice idea, but I sincerely doubt that the writers are going to do a repetitive storyline that would require to regulars being trapped in a place like Heaven. If anything, it'll be Cas and Dean on opposite sides of the Pearly White Gates and instead of letting go of Dean's hand, like he did in Purgatory, he'll hold on. That's, I think, the parallel that the writers will shoot for. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love for Metatron to maybe be returning to inform Dean about what HE needs to do that parallels with Sam and his trials...yes a girl can dream!
ReplyDeleteWe were not given detailed time delineations, but it's not too hard to imagine that Dean spent some amount of time searching for Cas on his own before running into Benny, followed by a second stretch of time while Benny and he searched for Castiel together, as Dean refused to leave without him, and, finally, a third stretch of time as all three of them searched for the portal that would take them out.
ReplyDeleteGiven that the story was told only through select flashbacks, none of us can rightly say how much of the year was spent on each particular portion of the journey, nor what sort of obstacles they may have had to overcome along the way: surprise ambushes from various creatures, false leads or dead ends, sheer travel time (as it seems they went everywhere on foot), injuries, resting periods, etc.
One thing that is certain, however, is that Dean did make an immediate, concerted effort to find Cas. And, when he ended up finding Benny first, he likewise chose to continue his search, rather than leaving Castiel behind in favor of heading straight for the exit, thus, arguably prolonging his stay, for whatever length of time that took (one could even argue, furthermore, that having Cas with them slowed them down, as it made them a target for the Leviathans and other nasty things). In the end, the actual length of time spent on each portion of the journey doesn't matter. What matters is that he made those choices at all. Those are the aspects that show how much Dean cares.
Putting aside the fact that you're not the person I asked the question of, I would daresay that the list you provided constitutes more than 1% of the guests that have been on this season.
ReplyDeleteI personally agree that Benny and Elizabeth, Charlie, and Aaron+Golem are all very easy entries into the sympathetic character list; They certainly seem to have been well-received by most. If making my own list, I would even go so far as to add Henry Winchester, Samandriel, Kevin, and, obviously, Castiel. But then, I'm not particularly bothered by the existence of guest stars in the first place ;)
I like your thoughts. Its possible, but I don't really think so. My reasons are I thought Kevin is the only existing interpreter and he's a prophet, humanly and chosen. However, if it is the case that would add a fresh twist and controversy I believe.
ReplyDeleteI think either Metraton is one off to the show or the next Big Bad.
@ Patrick Maloney-I also don't believe he will possessed Sam. I was theorizing the reason his arm glowed was because he chosen (like a written contract) and there was side-effects in his blood, maybe his powers may return?.
I hope Metraton will be a good guide!.
~fanservice~ (LOL)
ReplyDeleteDamn, there goes my theory Metatron was actually Naomi.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like he'd have anything of importance to say to Sam. Oh no.
ReplyDeleteThat was my exact thought. This show doesn't seem to keep female characters I like coming back. (I loved Meg until the actress change/character personality transplant and, sorry, I hate Charlie.) Or change things up by making a choice to cast a female in a role such as Metratron. I'd been hoping for ages Gabriel would turn out to the the only female Arch Angel. But no. They had to retcon the Trickster and ruin him.
ReplyDeleteLucifer was pretty close to God, too. Look how that turned out.l
ReplyDeleteSo excited to finally see Metatron!!! but bummed because I thought Chuck was him!
ReplyDeleteYes. I see your point. But that's not what I tried to say. I think in Methatron as a character more similar to Joshua.... close to God, but modest. After all he's the scribe. His function is understand God's word. And they say he is like ObiWan... He was one of the good ones, I don't know the other characters... But they seems to be the bad guys.... so... Methatron could be some kind of mix... he could be some kind of neutral being... In fact, in Silent Hill (the game)his seal was neutral. And if he is neutral in SPN? Maybe that's the reason to be such important character... Well. It's just my wish. I'm not trying to say it has to be like this.
ReplyDeleteAs a generic, run of the mill, totally predictable TV episode, Bitten wasn't bad. As a Supernatural episode, it totally sucked. Any episode that doesn't "star" 1 or more of the brothers can be enjoyable for a first viewing, but is basically fodder for the trash heap to me. The only Supernatural episode that doesn't star the brothers that is acceptable as a quality Supernatural episode in my opinion is Weekend at Bobby's. But, I still have only watched it a handful of times. I dread those episodes.
ReplyDeleteMetraton, the voice of God!!! *fans self*
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteExcited!!
ReplyDeleteMetatron like Virgil Kent/Keyser Söze..... maybe Metatron is like the Virgil Kent to God's Keyser Söze, they are the same person, but God poses as his own scribe to avoid suspicion when he is hiding. if Metatron is made up as "witness protection" for God this would clear the discrepencies between the supposed number of Archangels (4) and Metatron's status as one. or in an even more contraversial twist its God that doesn't exist and Metatron was merely the proto or Alpha Angel who convinced the later Angls he spoke for their 'creator' and crafted a legend around his lie - like an inversion of The Usual Suspects' motto "the greatest trick the Devil pulled was convincing the world he didnt exist" becomes "the greatest trick God ever pulled WAS convincing the world he DID exist"
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to offend someone or anything like that but I think (or at least I want) theory for the future episodes..
ReplyDeletesee, the first trial for closing the gates of hell, as we all know is killing a hellhound and bathing in his blood.. the second trail will be to save a soul from going to hell ( not so sure about that!) but I have an awesome plot for the third.. to finally close the gates of hell, Sam need's to kill the king of hell, i.e. Crowely! and the person to complete all these trails, becomes the king of hell and gets trapped inside forever.. In the season 9, Sam somehow escapes hell, but the heaven wants him back in there as he cannot leave.. and to shut them up, Dean and Sam, probably Cass, close the gates of heaven forever with the Angel tablet. If there is a season 10, I would like to see Lucifer and Michael to return back from the pit, totally pissed on Sam and Dean.. They want the apocalypse again, though Sam and Dean stop them but sacrifices their own lives, die and go to heaven where they finally meet God (probably Chuck), and tells them that he was with them all along. That he was looking after them and they can live in peace for eternity..
Considering Metatron originates from Jewish medieval writings, it's probably classier than you think ;D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metatron
ReplyDeleteEr, Let me quote Dean: "After 1 year in purgatory I think my job in this world is to hunt the evil monsters" in the episode Heartache and not follow some random angel into heaven.
