Much like Coyote Lovely, this new episode of Archer doesn't have much impact on the show's on-going plots, but it was prett-ay, prett-ay, prett-ay... pretty good from start to finish.
The main storyline revolves around a mission which sees Archer and Lana pretending to be on their honeymoon in a fancy hotel -owned by Cheryl- so they can apprehend the mad scientist who wants to sell uranium to North Koreans who want to create a nuclear bomb. A very topical subject indeed.
All the Pam/Cheryl banter was really good. And before that, Pam mimicking sex with her sandwich (screen above) was one of the highlights of the episode.
Also, unlike the previous episode (structured with flashbacks), we return to form here as we get seamless transitions through scenes with dialogue that flows effortlessly as if we were continuing the scene with one group of characters whereas the jump in the middle of another group of characters talking, one of the show's trademark (this season, at least) giving the episode a very rapid pace (something the previous was perhaps lacking). The 21 minutes flew by.
We get an action scene that isn't a gunfight, or even a fight, one might call it a stunt, and this type of scene is pretty rare on the show, at least it struck me as unusual when it happened (hint : there's a catch).
A few quotes I hand-picked :
— Always never forget that.
— For what, Dunkerque ? Or that effeminite yet condescending tone ?
— Without pepper corns, it's not steak au poivre. It can't be. By, like, definition.
— Relax, it's North Korea. The nation state equivalent of the short bus.
— I sarcastically climbed all the way up here to see what your bonus is, he said, sarcastically.
— Yeah, which is apparently French for just sitting around on your ass.
— It's none of those things : it's not democratic, not a republic and definitely not glorious. Jesus, watch Frontline once in your life.
— Cameras steal your soul.
— Lana is destroying the toilet.
— I'm coming, Cyril.
— I use humour as a coping mecanism.
— It was, by definition, a farce.
This episode was pretty good and it should not be missed tonight at 10pm on FX.
Episode 4.08 : 15/20.
