HIMYM - 5 Things To Know About The Season Premiere

So what can be dished on the episode without walking all over the code of spoilers? Let's break it down by character:

Ted: The episode does show a "big day" in our protagonists' life, but it's not the one you're probably expecting. "HIMYM" goes out of its way in the flashbacks and flash-forwards to keep two huge revelations a secret until the very end. (Though, we have note that when all is said and done, the mother count is still at "0.")

Robin: In Robin's (Cobie Smulders) grubby grief over Don, she warns Ted that her recovery time will likely include aggressive solicitations for sex -- which seems like a red herring planted to distract from a bigger development planned for Scherbatsky and another ex.

Marshall: Telling his father, and everyone in Manhattan, about his plans to conceive a child abruptly halts Marshall's (Jason Segel) scheduled coupling with his wife, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if he hadn't been abstaining from a certain practice for over two weeks.

Lily: This isn't a casual baby-making. Lily (Alyson Hannigan) has a regimented schedule so the couple can get pregnant ASAP, and, oddly enough, it involves banjo music.

Barney: It's Marshall's close relationship with his father that triggers Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) longing for a dad of his own, hinting that the paternal investigation will likely continue after the second episode's confrontation with Mrs. Stinson.

If the latter character tidbits seem less intriguing than Ted's, there's a reason for that. The series is definitely going back to its original concept. After long arcs focusing on Marshall and Lily and Barney and Robin, expect a Ted-centric Season 6
