Day 6: Welcome once again, to the latest set of polls for the Best Show Competition 2010. Yesterday once again saw some shockers and surprises in a quieter day for votes. I can safely say I am not winning the competition. I have less than half the scores right so far :P We say goodbye to Band of Brothers (Scandelous), House (Bonkers, although Deadwood is quality TV), One Tree Hill and Prison Break. Through is Grey's, Desperate Housewives, Deadwood & Scrubs. The competition is throwing in some right shockers.

I have noticed a few negative comments on the way the competition is going, and I will say I have been surprised with some of the votes, but this is a hunt for the best TV show as voted for by the readers of SpoilerTV and other related sites, and so what they say is what is the case. I'm enjoying the shock, despite many times jumping on my bed aghast at some of the results. It's all fun at the end of the day :)
For all those who have entered the competition, once the results are updated, you can check out how you are doing here: Updated Brackets

Today we have some of the real big contenders taking centre stage, such as SpoilerTV juggernaut and best British hope Doctor Who, taking on 15 seasons medical drama ER, and also here we have The OC taking on another brit attempt to steal the crown in Life on Mars. In the other post, we have the early favourite LOST taking on critically raved The West Wing, and Twin Peaks taking on Seinfeld. It's the competitions biggest day in my book, and I'm looking forward to seeing who wins what. The other post is here: Best Show Ever 1.3d

Life on Mars (UK)

After being hit by a car in 2006, Tyler awakes in 1973 and finds himself working for the predecessor of the GMP, the Manchester and Salford Police at the same station and location as in 2006. Early on in the series, it becomes apparent to Tyler that he awakes as a Detective Inspector, one rank lower than his 2006 rank of Detective Chief Inspector. As part of the CID, Tyler finds himself working under the command of Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).

The one thing that you don’t watch ‘Doctor Who’ for is the special effects. The special effects and usually the basic designs of the aliens are quite frankly, lame. What I watch ‘Doctor Who’ for are the amusing, very slightly campy stories that reflect human nature and emotions. I end up feeling just as much emotional attachment to minor characters that only appear in one episode as I do for the Doctor and his companion. I love how the Doctor can be goofy, inquisitive and authoritative almost simultaneously. The Regenerations that allow the Doctor to cheat death are not only a clever way to extend the show but a way to emphasize the Doctors complex and changing personality, from Dr. Nine’s (the ninth generation of the Doctor) battle-scarred soldier to Dr. Ten’s manic, no-second-chances persona, to Dr. Eleven being adorably old fashioned, absented minded and prone to temper-tantrums; they are all the doctor and I love them all. ‘Doctor Who’ is complex enough for adults to watch but interesting enough for kids, with a minimal amount of adult humour and situations to enjoy too. Doctor Who’s intended audience is children and families so sometimes there is juvenile humour that, while not distracting from the storylines, can seem out of place if you are not aware that children as young as seven watch it. But ‘Doctor Who’ is able to balance such diverse subjects as the title character’s guilt at having to destroy his home planet to save the universe, to farting aliens that explode when vinegar is thrown on them without ever alienating any of the audience. Well, almost never.

ER

Seasons: 15 (Finished)
Format: Medical Drama
Synopsis: It is set primarily in the emergency room (ER) of fictional County General Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The show ran for 15 seasons, becoming the longest-running primetime medical drama in American television history.
