This season has been really hit or miss for me. As the flat relationship between Penny and Leonard took a large portion of the season, the rest was largely Sheldon running around doing crazy things. The writers are fantastic at writing dialogue laced with everything nerdy and playing to the casts strengths, but when it comes to plots, their abilities are really lacking and it showed in all the bland arcs this season.
The third season ends centered on Penny and Leonard who have sex after Penny drinks a little too much. Penny's admission in the end, that Leonard has made her unable to stand dumb guys, is as clear as any indication that more will happen between them and I'm hesitant to say more. The first go around between them wasn't that funny, but it could be better the second time around.
Throughout the episode, Raj and Howard sign Sheldon up for online dating, something that flies in the face of everything Sheldon believes in. Somehow they find a match and it's...a female Sheldon! She's pretty much the exact same as Sheldon was all the various objections and quirks and they seem to get along, as in they aren't fed up with each other. That's a good sign, but something more could happen from this. The episode ends rather abruptly without much development. In some ways, it's like a cliffhanger, dangling out a tidbit for us, but this is a comedy. There wasn't much fulfillment in the end, so we'll have to wait until next season to see what happens. But what are the options? The ending gives no hint. The end of the second season had Penny wishing that Leonard stayed. This time there is nothing.
